Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

Question! My husband and I are taking and adult only trip feb 28- March 5. We booked CBR resort because this was the only moderate left with a King Bed room with the winter room discount. I'd personally rather stay at POR but I'm sure CBR will be great also. But we want the king bed room.

I keep checking back to see if King rooms open up. And then I started to read about all of the construction. A king actually came up and I didn't take it because I was reading about the construction, but now I'm regretting it :(

So my question is, since I've never been there before, is how intrusive is the construction if we don't care about swimming? I know they are also doing some roof work. But would we be around all of the construction walking to and from the main building? Or is it just if you're seeking out the pool? Does anyone know if they are putting people right below the roof work? I really love the look of the resort since we have been to the Caribbean for cruises 4 times in the last 3 years and we want something different, I've always wanted to try POR!. But we don't want to be in a noisy construction zone. One may not even open up, but usually this has worked out for me in the past if I check often enough. And because it lets me book a king without the discount so they still have some.

They have a king room available on Orbitz right now for those dates. Plus you can add their 15% off discount with code "bestvacay".

Thanks for checking that :). Without the discount code you have it ends up being about $350 more than what it was on the Disney site with room plus tickets. and that much more than what we are paying at CBR. Problem is we already booked through Disney with a package and made our final payment. We are also thinking about adding the dining plan.

It does let me book a King room on the Disney website and switch, if I get rid of the discount. But they just aren't allowing any more to book with the discount at least on the Disney website, unless it's a princess room. Very annoying since they obviously have rooms left.

Have you tried calling them directly? Maybe they have something hiding...

Or what about splitting your stay? Stay a few days at CBR then switch to POR.

Thanks again for your help and suggestions :) yes i did call. Th cast member seemed to think it was a mistake that there were rooms available to book without the discount. Like a computer glitch. Haha. She really was clueless. But said there wasn't anything she could do. I told her that they set a certain amount of rooms aside for the discount, and she said no. Lol. It's ok though, I'll keep checking back. We really aren't interested in a split stay, and moving mid trip.

it's not really even about the money as much. It's more that for another $500 I could get a standard room at AKL so I don't think I'm going to pay an extra $350 for a different moderate with construction and no pool. I did read a few posts on trip advisor just now about hearing a jack hammer all day long so that's scaring me a bit anyway. But POR looks beautiful. We love the rooms, I just don't want to pay more and be in an obvious construction zone.

You are right and she was wrong. They do allocate a certain number of rooms in specific categories to special offers. Once those are sold, the rest of the inventory in that category is still available but at regular prices. And if you call to 'change' a booking (perhaps when a better discount comes out) you are in effect making a new booking at that point, so even if you have a category of room already booked they will look at the system afresh to see what offers are available and then re-book you into that if possible.

Disney can of course look at sales are decide to include more inventory in the offer at a later stage, so it's worth checking again a few times.

Are the hot tubs only at the main pool?

Yes, just one hot tub at the resort and it's next to the main pool.

I can do online check in now. We have a royal room garden view booked. For special requests, they offer various floors and corner room. What should I request? I've never been there.

It depends on what you want. Some people want first floor so they don't have to deal with stairs or elevators. Some people want top floor so they don't have to worry about heavy walkers above them. Corner rooms just give you an extra window, which some people like for the additional light.

It is all personal preference. Corner rooms are very nice! I had one last year. This year, I am requesting first floor. I know I'll be in AB and I can't do stairs. You just have to figure out what you want.

I am in a corner room right now. I have had a Royal non-corner and have to say I LOVE the corner. The additional drapery just adds to the royal feeling! And I've always asked for corner at moderate because they seem bigger and have one less neighbor to hear.

I am also on first floor. There are not many Royal corner rooms so your chance of first floor are greater than that of non-Royal and especially AB rooms.

I had that exact room type, I requested corner room and first floor. I then called the resort a week prior to check in and requested the building I wanted (Oak Manor #90)

Here now. Saturday. No one is working pool are but it's a mess and they are removing tiles from sides so guess there is jack hammering. Roofers are working today in mansions so hammering happening.

Was there over the last week and there was much jack hammering in the pool area!!!

So I know POR had very limited FD dates last Fall, but can anyone recall what the room only discount was for them? Thank you! I've been searching and searching and can't come up with it.

We booked a Bounceback room only discount during the free dining period and it was a 25% discount.

This June will be our first week long trip to WDW. We've done 3 previous 2-4 nights following a Disney Cruise. This is our first non cruise trip. In the past we've always stayed at AKL, which we LOVE, but POR was so much less expensive when staying a whole week, so we're giving it a try, based on positive reviews. Has anyone stayed at both? Will we be terribly disappointed in the theming, given how magical AKL is? We are actually looking forward to spending time at the resort, so are hoping it will not disappoint in comparison. I'll be traveling with my 12 year old daughter. Thoughts?
