Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

Had a wonderful time at FQ. I loved the small size. We were in Building 1 facing the courtyard. The view was perfect and the parking was close. I loved hearing the horse and carriage clomp by in the evening. I think we were just about as far as you can get from the food court (?) but it was still close enough to walk over, get breakfast and return to the room. The bartender at the pool bar was terrific, as was everyone at the resort. Over by the river there is nice smoking area (I know, I know, those of you who don't smoke are already gearing up to politely remind me about the dangers - thank you for caring) where my friend and I would sit and have a cigar in the evening while looking at the water and watching the boats. Other smokers would stop by and we got to chat with other visitors. One night (early Feb trip) is rained - quite enjoyable watching the thunderstorm coming in and then sitting under the shelter in the storm. Glad it was warm.

The food was quite good. Had the fried chicken (just okay) with greens and mac and cheese (both great), had biscuits and gravy for one breakfast and the crayfish mac and cheese burger. As expected the buses were crowded in the early morning so I quickly learned to drive in on the days we hit the parks early. But the rest of the day the buses were not crowded at all - made for a great break in the middle of the day. Didn't try the pool but is sure is pretty.

All in all a great stay in a wonderful resort. I know I'll return to this one.

One of the reasons I chose POFQ is because of its small size. I never thought that transportation may be a problem because of its one bus stop. I do like to get to the parks early, and won't have a car. Will we have a problem with the buses in the early morning?

There is only one stop for the resort so everyone staying there who wants to get to the parks in the early morning is waiting there. Even with a small resort that's a lot of people. And I was there during a very slow time. For me that was a problem so when I went to the parks early I drove. Not an option for you so you'll have to wait. On the other end (leaving the parks right after fireworks) I would pass a very long line waiting for POR for a shorter line to FQ. One night leaving the MK late (about 45min after closing) we shared a bus with POR and we were the first stop so that was nice. Prepare yourself for long waits in the morning at the FQ bus stop.

Can anyone tell me if they still offer chicken fingers at the snack bar? I keep reading it is Lunch only and only on the kids' menu.

When we were there in Nov (right after Thanksgiving - so not too busy), they had a CM at the bus stop in the early morning helping people form a line for the upcoming bus...the big screen with time arrival estimates helps also, but, if there are a TON of people waiting for one bus, the CM can inform the schedulers to add buses to the rotation. We also never shared a bus at night or in the early AM with POR, only during the late-morning/early afternoon.

ETA...also for clarification there are two bus stops next to each other - can't remember off the top of my head which one serves which parks, but they are divided up between the two stops.

Same with us in October. The CM in the early morning was a big help. The shared buses with POR have gotten less with every trip.Even coming back in the afternoon we didn't share with POR leaving MK and DHS.

Thanks for this info. I think this is the main reason that I'm hesitant to stay at POFQ. We are typically RD people and I do NOT want to drive to the parks or get up a lot earlier than I have to so I can go stand in line for a bus.

If I have something shipped to POFQ, a box fan, but we don't arrive until around 9pm in the evening will I still be able to pick it up at bell services or wherever they store items shipped to the resort? I do understand there is a $5 charge to have something shipped.

Well, all I can say is that every resort I have stayed in has a line up at the bus stop for rope drop. The larger resorts make up to 4 stops before heading to the parks. There will be congestion in the early morning no matter where you stay, even at the monorail resorts. You could stay at one of the EPCOT resorts and walk in the International gateway, but then need to walk all the way to the front of the park once they open the gate. Or stay at Contemporary and walk over to MK, but the other parks are going have a line up at the bus. The only other option is to get a cab, I guess.

You will pick up your package up from the front desk, and as far as I know they can do that for you pretty-much 24 hours.

Thank you! I have to have a box fan to sleep. I will just leave it when we check out so if anyone is arriving on May 31st it is yours if you want it.

My mother and I just booked a room at POFQ for April 22-27!! We are going to see my DD who is in the DCP, and this will be our first time staying at POFQ. I'm so super excited!! My husband and I usually come to WDW with all of our children, so we almost always stay in a value. My DD was able to get my mom and me 40% off with her DCP discount. Yay!!
