Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

So if we land at noon and hightail it to ME and it takes 2 hrs from gate to resort we would arrive at 2. We would need to check in, drop carry ons in the room, get to the bus stop and travel to MK, get thru bag check and gates (with hopefully working bands, lol) then walk briskly to the Liberty Inn. Possible, yes, plausible....hmmm. I wonder if there is leeway in checking in for adr's? Maybe we should cancel and eat waffles :)

Is it held with a credit card? If not, keep it and try. If it is, then no way in heck would I risk the no show charge.

No, it is not. We made it before the requirement. I just noticed another potential problem and that is they switch to the dinner menu at 3. We really wanted lunch and not dinner. Isn't 3 early for a switch to dinner? Urg! Has anyone eaten close to the switch time? I wonder how that is handled. I guess I should post on restaurant board.

In August, we landed at 10:00, took ME to the POFQ, checked in. Room wasn't ready, so we checked our carry-ons in at the resort for holding. Caught the bus to MK and were walking down Main Street by noon! I remember commenting how quickly it all seemed to go.

In your case, though, traveling this time of year, I'd be more worried about flight delays than anything. One delayed flight and your whole schedule could be thrown off!

We arrived last week Tues. It took 40 mins once the bus started moving from airport to when we reached FQ. But we sat on the bus for at least 15 min before it started moving. Last year it took 1 hr 45 min from boarding the bus to arriving at FQ. My suggestion would be to reschedule your LTT if you can. You never know if your flight is going to be delayed or if anything else will delay your trip. To find out if your reservation is lunch or dinner, go to the LTT page on the dinning section of the wdw web page. On the bottom right corner of the page you'll see a calendar with dining hours. Enter the date of your visit and it will list lunch & dinner hours.

That is with assuming your flight is on time. You can go to DTD for lunch or go to MK and do a CS. Personally I never plan the anything within a couple of hours of arrival. Maybe look to getting a later time if you really want to do LI on arrival day.

To be honest, the more I think about it, the more I lean towards canceling LTT and doing something else. It would be WAY too stressful. What if a flight was delayed? What if there is an accident and the bus gets stuck in traffic? What if there is an issue when you check in? SO many things can happen and the timing is just too close.

If it were me, I would cancel and plan on heading to DTD for counter service at Earl of Sandwich or Wolfgang Puck's Express. That is my normal arrival day plan.

we also try to no plan anything really important that first night. once we had hoop de doo REVUE on arrival night. we got there in plenty time, but our luggage. was lagging.

I think it's better to not have anything that first night. esp. so early, like 3,and since you didn't want dinner anyway.

one trip there were so many problems one one particular day, trying to work around a Coral Reef reservation. between the timing of the flower power concert (davy JONes!) and transferring from one resort to another (and I don't remember what else, but a few other things) we could have changed 4 or 5 other things, or just cancelled the coral reef. which we did. it was just too stressful to change everything else around for 1 meal.

All these posts make me so excited for our trip! First time staying at POR (my parents, sister and nephews stayed there in 2006 and loved it) and counting down the days til check-in (March 13, 2014). This will be my 5th DW trip, first for my kids (14, 11 & 8 ) and my hubby!!! My last trip was 20 years ago (waaaaaaayyyy too long ago!!) so any hints, tips about the resort would be great!

My last trip is what made me decide to never to anything like a meal reservation (especially now with them ALL being CC holds) on arrival day. Our first flight was delayed and we missed our connecting flight. They put us on priority stand by for the next flight to MCO (2 hours later) and luckily had 2 seats (they were even together).

We made our reservation for that night at Flying Fish and it was one of many amazing meals that trip. However, the stress about missing it was NOT worth it. And this was before they started having CC holds at FF so it wasn't like we would be out of money. I just hated the thought of missing the meal and was so very stressed.

I run 8 miles a week at least but had knee surgery recently . Why struggle when in pain. I'm tryin a scooter for the first and hopefully only time. I won't spend 6000 on a vaca to be in pain with my knees lol I need a sign inexperienced scooter, driver lol. Actually,im hoping buzzin round the resort nd over to riverside with he scooter will save me enough leg relief so. Can shop on my feet. No disney trip is fun without the shopping or us lol Is it hard to ride these things?

You definitely want to practice a little before going out in crowds! People can be very oblivious to those around them. Especially practice backing up. It is pretty easy driving forward but you require more room going backwards than you think. Practice turning in tight spots. Remember the ones at the stores are huge and clumsy. The do not have good turning radius. The smaller ones are the best. People will cut right in front of you and get really frustrated with you if it is crowded. I would recommend renting from a private company as it is cheaper and they scooter will be in better condition than the ones in the parks. Have fun!

PS - I am a physical therapist and train people to use these and electric wheelchairs so if you have questions please PM me.

Thanks for all the advice on the dining reservation and traveling to POFQ on ME. I think we will cancel. It just seems to tight and even if we do make it there is a high likely hood (I think) that they will have switched over to dinner by the time we are seated. We are vegetarians and so the dinner menu served family style just wouldn't work out. As far as the flight I guess I'll just have to cross my fingers and toes that we aren't delayed. We bought MVMCP tickets for that night as well, lol! It is a direct flight so if we can take off we are good...well mostly, I hope, believe...:wizard:

I originally booked my room (two queens) hoping that our DD17 would change her mind and come with us. If she doesn't come with us, is it possible to upgrade to a King room (if one is available) once we arrive?

You can ask, sure. As you say, offer to pay - but they might even give it as a comp upgrade to avoid the complications. :)

Are you SURE they switch to dinner at 3pm at LTT? I'm pretty sure it's actually at 4. We have a 4pm dinner res specifically because I want the earliest dinner possible. Not that you shouldn't cancel. That's your call but I think you can get lunch right up til 4. Check Allears.net.

Edit: oops. Disney site says lunch stops at 3 and dinner starts at 4. So there's an hour of nothing there. We were both right!

Can someone tell me does the dining area have any half and half or some type of creamer available for coffee? If so where is it located? Is it by the area where you fill up your mugs and is that before or after you pay?

It has been so long since we have been there and last time we went I did not drink coffee at the resorts so I'm wondering if we will need to buy half and half to keep in our room fridge or if it will be available to us. Thanks!! :)

Yes it does. I'm a half and half addict and can't drink coffee without it. At the food court, it's by the other beverage dispensers, same place as the coffee. It's actually a dispenser which is easier than opening a million of those little half and half cups. :thumbsup2

Hi!! I am so excited to be staying at POFQ for the first time ever!! We have done online check in and I marked a corner room on first floor. However, we now legitimately need that bottom floor room. My hubby had hernia surgery Friday. While he may be ok with climbing stairs by Jan 10, it would be easiest and best to probably just stay on the first level. Will this be a difficult thing to get??? I remember reading his thread before and people mentioning requesting things with the resort. Can I do that? Any advice is greatly appreciated!! Thank you!!

Please read the FAQ in the first post which explains all about making requests and the best ways to do it, including links to useful pages/threads. For medical reasons, you stand a very good chance of getting your requests met.

Thank you so much! I will go back and read that! It has been months since I read it and honestly I was more focused on the resort rather than making requests at that point… Completely forgot it may be there! Thanks again!!
