Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

My mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and I will be at POFQ for the Princess Half Marathon, and we were really looking forward to hopping in the hot tub and lounging around after the race.

Does anyone know whether the hot tubs by POFQ will still be open?

If not, how far of a walk is it to POR's hot tubs?

Thanks in advance.

The hot tub is closed for the same time as the main pool I think. The walk over to POR's Ol Man Island is about 10-15 mins, depending on where your room is.

Here now!!! Day 4 for us. We are in a comer room ground floor with Riverview in building 5. Great location!!!! I would have like not to be on 1st floor (the noise is fine) because if privacy. I don't want to keep blinds open since we are on the walk way so we don't get to see river much.

Couple things I can answer that I saw people ask. I am the person who wants not only to be at rope drop but also in the front we are at bus stops at 8am and it's great. Usually just a few other people at the bus stop :) and we get to park in plenty if time!!

Not that we are close to the pool but I don't hear any noise.

Took a walk to riverside yesterday morning, it took about 20 mins to walk over to pool but there is a shuttle that you can take that picks u up I front of Fq pool and drops you off right at POR pool

I am loving this resort!!!! It's so small and the decor is awesome!!!! I would love to always stay here!!!!

That's good to know. Do they use those little pargo carts, or a minibus of some kind? Nice that it's pool-to-pool rather than from the front of the resorts.

We are planning to do Rope drop at MK at 9am also. If we get the bus at around 8:20am, does that bus need to loop to Riverside, or does it go straight to MK?

It goes straight to MK, but I'd still suggest getting to the bus stop for nearer 8am to allow time for a bus to arrive, maybe have a wheelchair to load, then you have to walk over to the MK, via Security...

Checking in to POFQ in 14 days! My magic band came today! This is a solo trip for me, family trip last April with a stay at AoA. A bit bummed about no hot tub, but with only 2 nights at the resort, I think it will be okay. Not sure that I will get over to POR for the pool and hot tub, as I want to maximize my park time, but we'll see!

We just got back from FQ Sunday. They are using the little carts. They pick up at FQ right in front of the main entrance to the pool, (behind gift shop and food court), and they drop you off by the Riverside pool right by where all of the life jackets hang.

I don't think we ever waited to get a cart at FQ. There was usually someone sitting there when we walked up. Coming back from Riverside, the longest we ever waited was under 5 minutes. I was really bummed about the pool being closed, but it actually worked out quite well.

We have spent time in the real New Orleans and toured Louisiana and love it. I really want to get the feel of the resort as well as go to the parks. Maybe that's a main difference at our age. :cool1:

You will love POFQ. We are late 50s/early60s and dh will not stay anywhere else.

So are they doing a complete remodel of the pool or just maintenance?

Hello Everyone! I have been reading through the thread, up to page 58 now! Have really been enjoying it. While we haven't yet booked we are planning on early October at POFQ. I have been very excited and reading up everything I can on it(hence reading pages 1 thru 58 so far). But I saw a few posts and I just need to ask about the Room Only discounts.

I saw mention that its maybe 5%, if at all. Is it ever more? Is Free Dining ever offered at POFQ? Been kind of planning/hoping on getting either/or, preferably RO of 20% or more. If the outlook isn't good for these discounts I just want to prepare myself and start looking into either CSR or POR. We stayed at POR in 2010 and wanted to try something new and I have always wanted to stay at French Quarter (need some beignets!!)

Appreciate any advice you have!

POFQ due to it's smaller size and popularity hasn't gotten as many discounts as other resort
the last few years. It depends on the economy and demand. We got great discounts during our trips in '09,'10 and '11 but nothing in '12. Altho in 2012 we could have gotten good discounts in the Values and CBR we stayed at POFQ. The closeness to DTD and using the pool at POR (plus walking up there in the evening to see Yeeha Bob ) are a big part of our WDW vacation as we are no longer park commandos.

I don't know the details, but I assume just routine maintenance - 6 weeks would probably not be long enough for a complete remodel (although a zero-entry slope would have been nice).

I assume they will take this opportunity to add gates to the footpath entrances though, so they can fully close it off at night.

Offers do come up for POFQ, but you're right that they are often slightly less generous or less plentiful than for some of the other resorts. But you can still find them.

POFQ is the smallest and arguably the most popular of the moderates, so they really don't need to discount it as much as some of the other resorts. (Remember that discounts are offered solely to fill unused capacity, especially at quieter times of the year, not out of the generosity of Disney's corporate heart)

We had fd at pofq last year in nov .didnt have a pin code my husband somehow made pixie dust and arranged it as a surprise so it is possible. But i agree with Andre it's hard to get fr,pofq because they fill up regardless .. The bb was 30 percent off for this nov ... Just keep watching th boards when it's closer to your trip it can happen this is disney where dreams come true

We had a PIN for free dining last August and were able to book POFQ--our first stay there. While there we booked a bounceback for FD again this coming August. Last year, we had to book a garden room to get the FD, with the bounceback, we were able to do a standard room.

POFQ + FD = Perfect Vacation!

what these boards and if you see posts that FD PINS have come out, call even if you didn't get an e-mail, you never know.

Last year my sister and I were planning a trip for the fall, wanted to stay at a MOD and needed FD for it to work. I have always wanted to stay at POFQ (even more than Deluxe). Knew we would likely have to switch to another resort for GP FD but we got incredibly lucky and my sister got the FD PIN and POFQ was included!! Sis never got an e-mail we found out because I called to see if I had one (no). PINS are not easy to get but if you see posts that people are getting them it doesn't hurt to call and ask and ask the CM to check every name in your party.

Good luck and POFQ was even better than I dreamed it would be.

Thank you all for the advice(and hope!) I will be a bit devastated if we can't get POFQ, but it will just fuel me to start saving sooner for the next trip to make sure it happens then.

But hope is not lost yet so for now I will play it by ear and see what happens, but not pin all my hopes on POFQ. (Although the BF is now hinting doing a Value instead now...better start selling him on POR or CSR )

Inspiration struck! While I was checking out pics on both CSR and POR, I realized that, while we have been to POR previously, that we stayed at Parterre (before the Royal guests rooms took over) but that the resort has Alligator Bayou on the other side so we could stay there and still get a bit of a different experience from the trip! So while I'll still play it by ear I have a good solid back up plan if POFQ doesn't work out. (And in walking distance of beignets!! :hyper: )

POR was my second choice for last years trip; we walked over one day and such a pretty resort.
The beignets were SO good, one snack credit and plenty for breakfast for me and my sister.
