Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

Wdw71, that’s cool looking. We only booked a room so we didn’t use Disney Destinations. That’s that’s probably why we did not receive that packet. I hope you enjoy your trip! 😊

Oh y'all, I am going *home* to POFQ in early December!

My (adult) daughter and I are going down for 2 weeks, and we will spend the first week there at Beach Club, then move over to POFQ. I am so happy!

Boats, beigenets and Bob! I feel like I am going to draw breath for the first time in almost 2 years... What more can I ask for? 😍

I hope with my whole heart that everyone who is missing POFQ as much as I have been gets to go home soon!

Is anyone able to respond from an "always stay Deluxe" point of view? Or I should say the past 7 years or so has been Deluxe. One time, years ago I stayed at CBR. We will be there over Thanksgiving week and just couldn't justify the cost of Beach Club that we had reserved. I just changed it over to POFQ, never been there but am very excited to see it! It will be myself, husband and 20 year old daughter flying down from Penn State for the holiday. I don't mean for it to come out snobby at all, we're pretty down to earth people but I do love me a nice hotel room...... I also have the new JW Marriott booked as well as the Swan standard room. I want to drop 2 of the reservations this week. thank you for your thoughts! **Also, when was the last time the resort was open?

I can't answer from the always deluxe POV, I have stayed, and will stay, at all levels of hotel and there are pros and cons for each level. I will say the biggest differences to me are; 1) transportation and 2) outside doors/noise level

Transportation at FQ is all buses to the parks (boat available to DS). That will be hard to switch to for some parks, having stayed at hotels with monorails or Skyliner, or walking paths. And with outside doors, if you are in the right (or wrong) area of the hotel, you can hear a lot more traffic, IMO. It's not really been a problem for me at FQ before but, I suppose it is possible.

Having said that, I definitely choose some stays at FQ because I love the resort; the grounds, the different food, the small layout, the theme, etc...

I’ve seen on the wine & dine thread a good amount of people booked for riverside being upgraded… what are the odds of that happen being booked at french quarter that weekend

The last time the Resort was open… was when all the Resorts closed. However, POFQ will be clean, and ready for occupancy when it reopens on Oct 28th. Personally, I would happily stay there first day open if I had the chance!

As far as Deluxe vs. POFQ, what you need to remember is that while the Moderate class at WDW (in general) does not have *all* the amenities of a Deluxe, what they all do have is excellent theming, and POFQ shines here. You *will* feel the N’awlins vibe, I promise; as someone who had the good fortune to spend a lot of time in the French Quarter in my (allegedly squeeky clean) youth, I can tell you that Disney got the “feel” in the building facades, and the music. It’s the French Quarter of everyone’s dreams LOL

Remember that POFQ has rooms that are the same size as WL (WL was originally built to be a Moderate) and so they will feel pretty generous. There was a fairly recent room refresh (prior to the pandemic) and all of the rooms have hard floors now, and while the theming here is not as overt as it is outside, it’s definitely *not* a “generic” hotel room. Although you do not have the interior corridors of a Deluxe, nor do you have a private patio or balcony, (and let’s remember some of Beach Club’s rooms have no balcony, or those little “demi” balcony’s that are just… a place for one person to stand) generally speaking our family does not spend enough time lounging about on either patio or balcony when we stay Deluxe; really we should just stay Value, because the room becomes a convenient place to shower, change clothes and sleep! 😂 There are plenty of spots by the pool to lounge outdoors, (and did I mention, the laundry is right next to the pool - and the pool lounge? Makes laundry day *so* much more fun! LOL) and Scat Cats, and the main building have plenty of spots to lounge about indoors. The food at POFQ is consistently good as well; overall the Sassagoula Floatworks is probably one of the best QS on property for my money.

But my favorite thing about POFQ is the Sassagoula Fleet. It’s silly, I know, but it makes my heart so happy to take that little boat ride down that lazy little river to Disney Springs. It means that even though we aren’t in a theme park, good food, shopping and fun are ahead! It’s relaxing and a delightful way to get back and forth from Disney Springs (where we tend to wind up almost every day at least once!)

Personally, I think you should try POFQ; it’s the smallest Resort at WDW, and so it feels more intimate, and even if you get a “standard” view, it’s not too shabby, because there is so much greenery surrounding the parking lots.

There’s a reason that the folks in this forum are all so passionate about POFQ… 🙂

I’ve seen on the wine & dine thread a good amount of people booked for riverside being upgraded… what are the odds of that happen being booked at french quarter that weekend

It’s my understanding that there was a glitch in matrix because of some backstage issues when PORs booking went live. The chances of getting moved from a POFQ reservation are not necessarily better than any other time in history. I believe they have found and fixed the POR problem. Admittedly that’s 3rd-hand information, but I still wouldn’t hold my breath.

…And now I’m being told that my POFQ Fan Club Card is in danger of being revoked, because I forgot the first rule of Fan Club: “Never let the secret out about POFQ”.

So. I take it all back. I was wrong. It’s horrible! Terrible! Yuck! Ew! Awful! Stay away!

(How did I do guys? Do you think I convinced them? 🙃 😂🤣

I'm right there with you, mamabunny.

My first stay there was a Garden View room and I wished for a balcony so I could relax in the evening and enjoy the view. Since then I have always sprung for the River View because I love to watch (and hear) the boats moving along the river. Several time during my stays I will walk up to Riverside and take the boat to DS only to get right back on and return to French Quarter – just to take the trip.

As a solo traveler I kinda wish Disney would put in the Murphy bed like at POP – it really opens up the room.

And I, too, really like the food at Sassagoula Floatworks. A little story: In January 2017 I was staying at a Ft. Wilderness Cabin with two friends. One day we all split up to do our own thing so I took the bus to DS and then the boat to POFQ to have dinner there.

I so wanted to be there opening day but when it was announced I already had a late September trip booked and couldn't return so soon. So I'm returning to my “home” December 1. I'm looking forward to seeing the Christmas decorations there.

For three adults, I would want a room bigger than the POFQ rooms.

I stayed in the POFQ rooms with my parents. I didn't feel crowded. The only thing I could think of is in a deluxe the bathrooms are 'around the corner' from the beds/sitting area and in POFQ the vanity area opens directly to the main part of the room.

Also I'll add that I've stayed Deluxe/Villa (3 of them), Mod (4 of them), and Value (all 5 of them). POFQ is my favorite across all the categories. In my opinion it has the best ROI on property.

For me, three adults in a POFQ room is too crowded. I tried it one trip and the next time we got together we decided on the cabins at FT Wilderness.

Thank you all for the comments, I really appreciate it! I was able to get a POFQ river view and a Swan traditional no view for the same total price so I will just weigh the pros and cons I guess. Decisions! Thank you again everyone.

I have trip coming up in two weeks. I had POFQ booked for my girlfriend and I for the longest time, but I was able to get Dolphin for $250 less. I ultimately switched to the Dolphin to be able to walk to two parks was too convenient to pass up and the access to the Deluxe extra hours swayed me. I will miss the theming and boat to DS though.

dont forget to add on the extra $35+tax per day resort fee that the Dolphin and the Swan add on When you check-in.

Yep, that $250 is after taxes and resort fees. Resort fees are the worst, especially now in the pandemic. One still pays the same resort fee, but with way less of the "amenities" that the fee allegedly paid for. It's just showing that these resort fees are bogus but that is a conversation for another thread.
