Resort Thread Disney's POP CENTURY Resort

The Pop Century character schedule has recently been in the lobby on Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday from 11:30am to 12:20pm.
I'm not sure this is the character meets that were announced recently for the summer promo. It's the character caravan that has been going on for months/years.

The specific time Character meets in the resort lobby have only been going on for a few months (maybe since the beginning of the year). They definitely weren't happening (outside the random surprise ones) when we were there last June or any other year we've been there. I've read on other message boards and blogs that these existing scheduled meets at resorts are what Disney is referring to in the Cool Kids Summer promo, they just simply started earlier than the actual promotion (probably a test run).

That would be pretty lame if something they announced as part of a new promo has already been going on for several months. But maybe that's the case.

Possibly the announcement is to alert those who aren’t aware it’s happening? We have stayed at Pop many times since the resort opened and I have never seen a character at Pop. Hoping to change that this year!!

Yup, it is lame to treat it as some new limited time thing even though it’s been going of for months- but that’s what Disney did.

Room request help! I’m booked Preferred (non-pool). My hope is for a shorter walk to buses and food court. What should my request be?

Be careful. I was once pixie dusted from standard to preferred and ended up feet from the Bell Hop area. NON STOP noise. More like a downgrade from what I had requested lake view.

All of the preferred rooms are a shorter walk. There is a map of the resort on page 1 that shows preferred rooms, identified by yellow lines. I’d probably request building 4 or 5 but those are not necessarily the closest to buses.

What is the best way to request rooms? My requests have never been met!
We will be checking in late, about 9pm and usually by that time they can’t do anything until the next day.

Call? Email? Fax? Chat on the app?

I use Touring Plans, but that requires a membership. And even then they're not always met. Sometimes they just can't.

The best thing is to make the request more general than specific. If you request just one room, they have no idea why. If you request a building, that's much easier. For example, when I stay at Pop mine is usually something like "1st preference Building 6; 2nd preference Building 10."

And things like "quiet room" is way too random. What's quiet one night could be noisy the next depending on who is in it.

With a late arrival things are stacked against you as many before you that day have already asked to change rooms and have taken the more desired locations.

When we arrive late I go in with the mindset that I likely won’t get the room location I want and ask if they could possibly move me the following day.

Pop runs at capacity most of the time so reality is some get placed in the less desirable locations and a late arrival means that happens more often.

Not ideal but hope that helps.

The last time I had a preferred room at Pop I ended up in building 4 in the back away from the pool but right next to that circle where they park all those golf cart vehicles they drive around all day and the big carts of towels/linens. The noisy carts that they move around at night and early in the morning….it was awful. Now If I stay at Pop I always go standard for a lake view. Some of the standard rooms in the 50’s have a lake view and you can see some fireworks.

Years ago when trees were smaller, DHS had legit fireworks and AoA did not exist .... DS and I would always stay Building 3, top floor, lakeside. He usually needed out of the parks early so we would watch fireworks at DHS, Epcot and MK. We did this for years and what a great view for a value!! Some rooms I could put in him a chair at the window and see them. I know you can still see some but nothing beats facing the peaceful lake. 💙 I requested 50's again this last trip, hoping that we might luck out but .... we kinda did, a brand new room (we might have been first) facing the pool in Building 1. Was very happy with location.

You just brought back so many memories. We used to do the same thing years ago. I can remember looking out to the unfinished other side of Pop... I believe it was supposed to be the Legendary Years. We would also watch the fireworks from that building you mentioned.

Although I love the All-Stars, being able to watch Fireworks and their reflections on a lake is another extra for Pop Century that the All-Stars don't have.

One trip many years ago we got a pixie dust upgrade to building 4, lake view (at the time, the entire 60's section was a "preferred" location). Our room faced the lake and we could see the EP fireworks from our room every night. If we stepped outside the room we could see MK & DHS fireworks. That was awesome because our kids were little at the time and were happy with seeing the fireworks from the room rather than being at the park to watch them. And one year when we were staying at AoA LK Bldg. 10 parking lot view, we had an awesome view of the DHS fireworks every night.

I use the Touring Plans room finder but I also have our TA add a note to our reservation. I make sure the 2 requests are the same -- no conflicting info. I keep it simple: "If possible, we'd like a first floor room close to the main building (or whatever is important to us on that particular trip). An example of what we're looking for would be room # (whatever room I requested on Touring Plans), but any room that is first floor and near the main building will be great." I've done this double request method for our last 4 or 5 trips and we've always gotten either the exact room I referenced or one very close to it. But I will say that we arrive around 10:00 a.m. and I know not everyone is as lucky as us when it comes to room requests. I think we're the exception and not the norm. My feeling is that it doesn't hurt to put in a request (and realize that it's only a request, not a guarantee). If you don't like your room location you can always go to the front desk to see if anything else is available. They might be able to move you to a different room that night or the next day. Again, it never hurts to ask.

If you want to invest a little time and get "out of the box",we have had more success with Snail Mail than any other method.

By far.

I think it is because it really gets the Room Assignors attention for a Guest to take the time to do that.

And arriving at 9 PM can be accommodated-the Room Assignors have the ability to place a note that this room is not to be reassigned-it is to be held for you.

Give it a try.

Or not.😊

Interesting! Do you mail directly to the resort?

Yes,we would get a blank card with an envelope and use the 1050 Century Drive address and put "Attention: Room Assignor" under the address.

On one side of the card we would put a Primary and Secondary Room Request.

On the other side we would put our name, trip dates and Reservation # and a note:

Groovy Greetings,
We can't wait to stay at your Far Out Resort again!

We always have an amazing time when we Pop down to POP!

We are really looking forward to seeing the new Magic Kingdom parade,it will be so Cool!

We would really appreciate any consideration you can give our Room Requests!

Peace!
