Resort Thread Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT

Hi everyone! I am deciding between Poly DVC or BW, I would prefer poly bc of the 2 full bathrooms but I’m worried about construction.
The Deluxe Studios at Poly do not have 2 full bathrooms. The second "bathroom" does not have a toilet but only a shower and a sink.

The Island Tower construction will be long done by July however there is another major phase of construction that will be starting soon. The entire front entrance is being relocated and a new dedicated bus loop is being created.

Will this new construction impact your visit? Yes likely for any transportation to HS or AK. It should not really impact your activity / movements within the resort area.

Thank you so much for this info!

Hi everyone! I am deciding between Poly DVC or BW, I would prefer poly bc of the 2 full bathrooms but I’m worried about construction. I have never stayed there so I am unfamiliar with the layout. Is the dvc area near the construction, is there a certain building I should request? Or I should I just do BW bc of construction. Thank you for any advice!
The current DVC studios have two showers. The a one is a shower and a sink with no toilet. The current construction is for the DVC Poly Tower. It should be done I a couple of months. The current DVC buildings are on the other side of the resort so it should not be an issue if staying before the Tower is done.

Planning on July, I think I’ll just do BW since it seems like more construction will be happening after the tower

What construction is that?

At some point they are going to start in on the front entrance and bus stop reconfiguring. Personally I’m not too worried about it being much of an annoyance for most guests as it’s largely a “front of resort” issue, but it’s still construction none the less.

This assumes there aren’t any additional unannounced projects.

I can't imagine that part of their planning isn't working out that. They aren't going to strand people with no way to get to 2 parks.

Poly guests will not be stranded and unable to get to or from HS or AK. This is a massive construction project and guests should understand that there will be noise and delays entering and leaving by car, bus, and MV / Rideshare.

This is not just simple paving of an entrance / parking lot. They are reworking the entire area and traffic flow from the Seven Seas Drive and Floridian Way intersection and widening Floridian Way to a major road that will extend past the GF resort.

Not to be repetitive but here is the link to @mrsap 's post HERE to see the size and scope of this "Front Entrance" work.

As a reminder there is a notice on the Polynesian Overview page that construction and refurbishment projects are planned through 2026.

Does anyone have info on when this work will commence?

No there is no official start date available at this time but the plans were last updated last May. Construction normally follows within about 6 months.

We are expecting this next phase of construction to begin shortly after the new year (2025). This will allow for the clearing of the remaining construction storage area at the new Island Tower that is opening on December 17, 2024 (finally).

While visually obvious the number of spaces will be reduced based on the plans, I had originally missed this convenient little table in the filings. The DVC Lot is the "Pago Pago Lot", Main is the main Poly lot, Project U is the DVC Tower. I personally have never encountered a material parking problem at Poly - you may be further out but I can't think of a time I've not found a space like I've encountered at GF. Will be interesting to watch if that 113 space loss has a material impact. Probably not ideal, may push more people towards the Pago Pago end.

I'm staying at the Poly (the OG version!) on December 17th when the Island Tower opens. Never been to a new resort opening... is it open to anyone like the other resorts or do they limit traffic? Am I able to pop over there to swim? Are the restaurants open?

We don’t really know any details yet. Presumably the new restaurant/bar/grill will be open when the Tower opens, but that’s just a guess as nothing has been announced. There could always be delays or staggered openings for things, one could assume. My guess is Disney will make some fanfare when the opening date of the restaurant is set, or they could keep quiet and things just open at some point. Never quite know what they are up to. :-)

When it opens, the new pool, hot tub, and Moana splash pad will be available to all Poly guests, regardless of room type.

My guess is there will be a lot of bloggers and looky-loos around the resort in the initial opening days.

I'll be happy when we have a walkthrough video - or at least multiple pictures - of the Duo Studio. Right now it's just the one artist rendering we have. :(

These are on the DVC website, but just posting a Duo Studio floor plan for those that may not have seen it. I’m glad these rooms exist for travel parties where it works and it’s a great economical way to stay at a monorail resort - but definitely tight quarters!
