Construction Continues on NEW Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

With just weeks to go until Island Tower opens on December 17th, 2024, construction crews are still hard at work on the building.

We spotted lush greenery being added to the grounds in the form of shrubs and tall, swaying palm trees.

We also got a glimpse of the new pool, which will feature a fun-filled Moana splash pad!

Work also continues inside the building, where a tropical mural is now visible inside.

Oh no! Hope you are feeling better. We got back on 9/29, at the beginning of our stay there was a lot of painting going on and lots of leaf blower noise. They were blowing the leaves off the roof tops of some of the longhouses to prep for painting. First room we were assigned in Tokelau had a giant high reach parked right outside, so I called the FD for a room change. They were a little surprised because they said it was one of the most requested rooms for DVC (we booked a studio, not a regular room because we didn't want to chance being near the tower construction area). I looked it up in TP room finder and did see it was their most requested room, but not with a high reach right outside the balcony! We were moved to 1933 in Tokelau, and it was perfect. I can now say I am a Poly fan, too. It's tied with the WL.
We left on 9/28 so just before you. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay.

Does anyone know what the theme park view construction is at the Polynesian in 2025-2026? It’s a new warning on the booking page. Thanks!

I think you might be miss-reading the This Resort hotel is currently undergoing construction and refurbishments message. Here is the detail pop-up.

2nd to last states - may impact views of the theme park..... I was wondering too since booking theme park view in tower.

That current warning has been up for a bit. Unless there are more projects on the horizon, we're nearing the end of any construction room views from Poly as the Tower opens 12/17. The most disrupted views have been in Aotearoa and Fiji, and with the new pool being filled and a lot of landscaping in, those views seem to be getting better by the day (granted still a lot of work to be done). Pre-tower there were Theme Park View rooms in Aotearoa, we'll have to see if that remains when all is finished, or if they will just be in Fiji (which sits right on the water) and the CL TPV rooms in Hawaii.

Again, barring unknown projects, my read of the 2026 warning is the abundant construction that will soon commence re-routing the entrance/vehicular access and changes to the bus station/bus access. That is going to put some Resort View rooms into questionable facing activity, potentially.

I read it exactly as printed. Impact views of the theme park from the resort but there is no mention about TPV Rooms in the Island Tower being impacted. It would have to be massively tall construction to block TPV rooms in the Tower.

There is still work to be performed along the Seven Seas Lagoon for the barrier wall / walkway but again I don't know how it could be high enough to block any TPV rooms in Island Tower.

I am with @GADisneyDad14 on if any TPV rooms will remain in Aotearoa after landscaping is complete around the Island Tower pool area.

Yes, but asking about TPV from Hawaii and rest of resort. When I call Signature Services and regular cast member chat they both say it’s a next year and there are no additional notes. Wondering if there’s work to do on Hawaii and other buildings still or roofing and work on Bungalows only.

Reminder:

Just wondering who else is hoping/planning to stay at the new island tower for cash? How difficult do we think that's going to be? Normally I avoid even trying to book a cash reservation at a brand new DVC resort, so I'm curious if anyone has a strategy or plan in mind. Any advice is appreciated! :goodvibes
I booked a short stay in Jan for a TPV deluxe studio. I am planning to change it to a one or two bedroom if I get the opportunity, though. I am so curious about these rooms, but they look very small in the floor plans posted....I really hope that they are bigger than they look.
Book your cash stays now while we're in this early transition period while Disney still controls a lot of inventory / not all units have been declared. Once fully declared/sold, I'm guessing some of those room/view types will be slim pickings on the cash side. Time will tell I guess!
Good idea! That's what I am thinking
I did book a cash stay for early next year just to try it. I'm intrigued by the tower and am excited for the addition. Maybe the closest I've come to being more seriously interested in buying DVC, but still not the right fit/investment for how we like to travel.
I have been intrigued by DVC for many years. When the Poly put DVC into the mix, I was certain that I wanted to buy into DVC. But they only had studios or bungalows. DH and I want to stay in a one or two bedroom unit. So, we declined to buy. Now I am tempted again.
Ha! I just said the same thing the other day! But buying into DVC now, after avoiding it the last 30 years  seems silly at my age.
I have avoided buying DVC since they first opened OKW. Almost every year I have wondered about it. The Polynesian is the resort that I was waiting for, but they didn't have anything other than studios or bungalows. Now that they will finally have those, we are really too old to buy at 70+ and my kids are in their 40's. One of them already own DVC at the GFV, the other isn't interested
My son & DIL bought in last fall. She keeps telling me how quick they’ll make up the cost, the perks & the discounted APs. It has made me think should we?? But at our age, there’s no way it makes any sense at all. Not even to pass on to them. My son is 43. Even he may not be traveling for another 30 or 40 years.
You are in the same situation that we are in. I could almost have written this post, except that my son and DIL have been owners since the GF first added DVC. They love it. I don't know if I can pass it up, even though I know that it is silly at our age. However, I have wanted to buy DVC at the Poly for so long that I'm trying to find a logical reason to do so now.

Is a transfer shower is the same as a roll-in shower? I am not sure what a transfer shower is, but it appears to be a separate booking category from roll-in shower, so I would not assume they are the same without some official confirmation.

We stayed in Niue 1703 last October. I can confirm that it has a daybed, and that it is reasonably comfortable because I slept on it for five nights! Our room was definitely described in our booking as resort view, wheelchair accessible with roll-in shower (not transfer). This shower had an open doorway with no lip so a wheelchair could roll right in. Transfer was not required unless the person wanted to use the flip down seat. I’ll attach a couple of pictures of the shower in 1703. (Please pardon our towels!)

Other wheelchair accessible features included a swinging door to the patio with a transition strip on the threshold for easier rolling, lower beds, and no sitting chair or benches at the end of the beds to leave more room for the wheelchair to move. If you need a roll-in shower this is a great room.

ETA: You can get this room to show on TP by selecting roll-in shower under accessibility options.

Pease update us about what room you get and its features. I’m very interested!

That is what I found and we did not book Club Level this trip. Not certain how you got the Niue room to pop up, but many thanks. My resort info says 2Q +d'bed but TP says 2Q. I will report what is actually there when we return. Oh, I did find a video of the room on Facebook, so I don't know if this will work https://www.facebook.com/reel/200086012605591
I promised I would come back and let you know about room 1703. It is the room we got and is exactly as shown in the Facebook video and also your photos! We loved everything about the room. It had enough space for both our scooters (mine was a somewhat last minute add on due to hip bursitis) and the bathroom was easily accessible. The shower has a fold down seat that my husband used and allowed ample room for showering for me when it was folded up. There is a plate near the door that, when pressed, opens the door and there is plenty of time for two scooters to exit the room. The room was quiet and the lighting was very good. We would have booked it again for next year but the Poly isn't honoring the Bounceback offer for the last week of October because it is during the F&W Festival. :( GREAT vacation and the CMs at the Polynesian are just outstanding!

Oh my gosh, love this!

Thank you for reporting back! So glad you had a wonderful trip!

Hi everyone! I am deciding between Poly DVC or BW, I would prefer poly bc of the 2 full bathrooms but I’m worried about construction. I have never stayed there so I am unfamiliar with the layout. Is the dvc area near the construction, is there a certain building I should request? Or I should I just do BW bc of construction. Thank you for any advice!
