Resort Thread Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT

Thank you for your informative quick reply. The room has a queen bed and the pull down bed is also a queen, correct? My MIL is not a fan of staying by herself and is good with one of our kids sleeping in her bed. (We usually do this at our lake house too.) It will be a tight fit and she may not want to see us for a month after that but at least we are saving a little money, right? 😂
I just had to reply and say that we recently stayed in a deluxe studio for two nights with five people: my teenage daughter, my young adult son and his wife, my husband and myself. We were worried that it would be unworkable but it was our only financially feasible option for our first time staying at the Poly (and my daughter-in-law's first Disney trip ever).

I have to say that we absolutely loved the deluxe studio. I wish there had been a commode in both bathrooms, but otherwise it was fantastic. Clean, beautiful, great view facing Magic Kingdom on the second floor of Moorea. The pull down bed was a queen and the Murphy bed was cute and comfy for my five foot seven daughter. Even with the beds down, we had plenty of room to walk around and enough storage for our stuff. The little kitchenette was great for making a quick snack or small meal too. I loved that we had a balcony and could watch the boats coming and going from the TTC. I would definitely stay there again. I think you would be very happy staying there. Have a great trip.

I realize that what I'm about to ask is all subjective and maybe it's obvious which way I'm leaning since I am posting here -- but I want to see what others think. For reference, my most recent WDW trip was in the early 90s (ToT was brand new) and I was 12. We stayed at the Cabins at FtW.

We (family of 4) are booking a trip for the week preceding Easter 2023. We are considering the Polynesian, Wilderness Lodge, and potentially Beach Club. We have pretty much settled on a Deluxe resort for our purposes and are then narrowing down based on what we think our kids (will be 7 and 9) will like more. We were considering PO - Riverside and AoA but ruled them both out for various reasons.

My main concern with Polynesian is the pool. The BC pool is obviously tops. And the Wilderness Lodge looks like it has a bigger pool. Is the Polynesian pool always crowded? We did a little "resort day" spying session one day while we were down for a SeaWorld/LegoLand trip and spent a few hours looking around Polynesian. It just didn't seem very big. However, it did seem adequate in that it would be fun for them. We would probably spend an afternoon there so it wouldn't be an every day event. Although with kids they are always up for the pool and don't want it to be a situation where it's too crowded. (I also realize there are two pools)

Also, regarding transportation -- am I putting too much stock in the proximity to MK (which is where I think we'd spend most of our time due to our kids interests and ages)? We don't mind walking (to save time coming back, for example) and even like that idea in the event of long wait times late at night. It's a long walk but I don't necessarily mind it. Also having the boat, monorail, and buses -- an also being able to walk to the TTC -- it just provides a lot of choice. In fact, my main gripe with Wilderness Lodge is that it doesn't have the monorail or any walking trail but I think that it probably won't matter much since it seems like it's very easy still to get to MK.

As far as BC, the only real advantages I see for us are cost (maybe 10-15% less than Poly) and the pool. If we were going to spend more time at HW/EC then it might be the better choice, but while my wife and I would love to spend more time at those we think our kids will probably want to do 3 of our 5 planned days at MK and also AK.

Additionally, Poly is going to be 10-15% more than either BC or WL. However, I am not sure that is going to sway us one way or another. We are looking at just standard view rooms.

I'm just kind of seeking out opinions of those with similarly aged children and situations. It's also completely possible that I'm overthinking and should just book what we want and realize all have pros/cons.

Thanks in advance and sorry for the wall of text.
Hi, just wanted to mention I have similarly aged children and have been torn among those 3 choices! One big difference is that we actually had our first trip to WDW this April and stayed at the Poly and then i lost my mind and booked another trip for next April 2023 (🤦🏻‍♀️). In considering all three, I’ve now ruled out WL because my kids need two separate beds and it seems like they’d have to share a bed in the standard WL rooms (at Poly, one slept in the 2nd queen and the other on the pullout). I’m also pretty sure I’ve ruled out YC/BC despite being very torn—i just love MK and it seems like the rooms at Poly are more comfortable, more recently refurbished and have more storage and it was such a nice stay last time that I couldn’t bring myself to try something new, at least not at this time. Maybe for a future third trip, haha! That said, the cost is eye-popping and given how the market is, who knows where my mind will be in a few months. But for now, we’ve booked Poly standard room again for next April! If you’re interested in my first trip report from Poly from this April, it’s here but I think you probably already saw it! https://www.disboards.com/threads/f...pril-15th-to-23rd-two-kids-poly-stay.3881009/

Apologies if this has already been discussed. Will the DVC tower construction be far enough away from the rest of the resort that a short stay next June wouldn't have construction issues? If this is a once in a lifetime stay at Poly for three or four days, I don't want the family to be disappointed with construction if it will be in our faces. TIA!

I know the Poly resort rooms do not have a microwave in them, but I can’t remember if Captain Cook’s has a microwave that guests can use.

Anybody know for sure??
🌺

We are trying to decide on our resort for September 2023. Would the DVC construction keep you away from the Poly during that time?

I did see it! It was very helpful to read and I actually commented on your thread when I thought you’d stopped after day 2. Haha

We are booked for a pool/marina view the first week of April 2023.

Nice! We’ve reserved a Poly standard room for all of the kids’ April break (which starts on the 6th) but that’s like 9 nights so it will definitely be decreased—just not sure yet which days I’m cutting! How long is your trip?

Great trip length! One thing I did learn on our first trip was the importance of resort days, even though ours were front loaded versus splitting up park days. When planning our first trip I’d see people on the boards mention them and would always be confused because you can hang out at pool hotels anywhere and Disney’s are so expensive—if you go to Disney, you go for the parks! But after seeing how we felt on our Epcot day, our 5th consecutive park day, i get it now, lol. Even though we didn’t rope drop to close any night except our first park day, multiple consecutive days are very tiring! You probably know this already and are planning for it for all i know but just wanted to mention bc it was definitely something I didn’t “get” before our trip, haha

I've gathered from many posts here how important it is to have some down time. Part of the reason we decided on Poly was that we enjoyed the look/feel of Poly!

Hi, I have a booking for the Poly from the 2nd Aug. When I tried to do room requests it only gave ground floor, near a bus stop and ?king/queen size bed As options. What happened to the other options and which should I pick? Booked standard view room. I’d like to be on a higher floor with a balcony ideally.

Call and make your request. Request 3rd floor for balcony.

If party of 2 do you want a king? Ask, if not request 2 queens but there are very few kings so not really an issue. Poly is not that big so a 3rd floor request trumps building request IMO.

Poly is not too large so anywhere works . The online room request was written by chimps, I have never seen a single hotel at Disney ask for what we want, I have stayed at all except SSR, I just call if I need something but often can wing it. Poly is one where I want outdoor space so I make time to request.

For dvc all 3 floors have outdoor spaces so I don’t request for that,

Enjoy your trip! Poly is fun in the summer 🍍

I am staying in a standard room at Poly (not DVC). What is the laundry room situation like? easy to use? close to pool? Does it use coins? Any guidance would be great.

While not 'close' to the pool, the laundry room is within reasonable walking distance to the Oasis Pool. Very convenient for taking in a drink (or a few) in between loads. 🍍🍷

Yes, in the main room

Easy to use. Credit Card, no Coins. Kinda close to the Oasis Pool. You can also check online the availability of dryers or washers:
