Resort Thread Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT

Your villa with a balcony overlook the Seven Seas Lagoon and the MK will be a nice place to relax. Yes it only has 1 dining option but you still have 2 options at GCH that take reservations as well as GK, and CR for dining options.

I am not sure many random guests will be wandering around as there is not much to see and enjoy unless you are a Poly resort guest. It is not even clear how busy Wailulu Bar & Grill will be with no real breakfast options other than Grab & Go. It took a while after Geyser Point was open before it became popular beyond the WL crowd.

Dave
Good points. Thank you!

Fitness center looks awesome. May I assume it's for all Poly guests and not just DVC owners? Not sure if it's all Tower guests or only for DVC owners in all Poly.

I think we’ve all assumed it would be available for all Polynesian guests (hotel side and DVC). The sign in the gym is poorly worded (shocking) and taken literally would mean PVB guests only. But I can’t imagine they’d have a setup where you tell hotel guests sorry, you have to keep walking to the GF gym, while PVB guests get to use this one. Need a hotel guest to go see starting Tuesday I guess.

That is more a function of having the Security check before you get on the Monorail. I wish they would just move it back to the MK area it often causes very long lines at CR, Poly, and GF.

Dave
No. Absolutely not. Security was fast and efficient. This was a result of the droves of people walking from the TTC parking lot to the Poly monorail. I witnessed it with my own two eyes.

Yikes, that would be very odd. Some examples of shared Health clubs are Muscles & Bustles (BWV) is shared between the Inn & BWV. Sturdy Branches at WL (BRV) is for all WL guests. Ship Shape Health Club at YC is shared with BC and BCV.

It would not be the first time a Disney Sign was wrong and needed to be replaced. It would be very odd to send Poly regular resort guests all the way to the Senses GF Fitness center as they currently go along with PVB guests.

It's strange that the 1-Bedroom Highlights list a full bathroom "allowing for everyone to get ready at once".
I thought they were going to have two bathrooms?

Can we use a QS dining credit at the Oasis pool & bar?

We love the Poly fragrance. It’s the Ecolab Zephair Mountain mist (a bit irritating when used at home so we use sparingly). We also bought scent fill vanilla suede (spiced vanilla AKL fragrance)

Yes the 1 Bedroom does have 2 bathrooms. One near the entry door with only a large shower and 1 vanity. and the 2nd is in the Bedroom with a soaking, tub, and a large hall style shower. Also the bedroom has 2 vanities, 1 on either side of the "Barn" entry from the bedroom.

Does the smaller one have a toilet?

Is the pool area reserved for island tower guests or can poly guests use it as well (DD is a huge Moana fan).

January 3-11

Always a bit of a gamble trying somewhere new for 8 nights. If for some reason it's not suiting you, then you're stuck!

On some level, we have to remember while the Island Tower seems like a big deal in our little corner of the world, outside of Disney sites and the blogger/vlogger community, do people really care all that much? Many probably probably say "it's DVC" and move along without much thought.

But no doubt you're still in the holiday zone and then marathon weekend creeps in (Floridian Way will be closed in one direction the morning you leave, in case you didn't know that). On some level I suspect the normal Poly vibes will still be the case - which to me is a combination of both a busy resort (Great Ceremonial House, dole whip lines, monorail lines) and an overall chill vibe (the grounds, rooms).

From the looks of it I could get pretty cozy for 8 days in a 1BR TPV room. The rooms remind me a bit of the Tonga suites in both style and quality, and space.

If this were me the chance to try something in the opening days (and a place where cash stays will become more difficult over time) would probably win out.

But tough call if you've got a specific definition of "relaxing" you're trying to find in your choice.

I really appreciate the thoughtful response. You're right about eight nights and being stuck. We have our favorite resorts that I never get tired of, but there are also some that I only enjoy for brief stays. You're also right that I wasn't considering that just because I've been following this thing since it was a pile of dirt, not everyone else has been. I did not consider the marathon's impact on Floridian Way. I agree that the villas look attractive and cozy. I think what is bothering me is the lack of conveniences right in the building. The thing I like most about a stay in Tonga is the proximity to the GCH. As I type this I'm realizing that when we choose DVC villas we tend to land mostly at Boardwalk or Copper Creek because we want those full service hotel amenities. I also just realized we have been staying cash DVC much less and gravitating almost exclusively towards club level instead because convenience is what we value the most. While I was excited to be staying somewhere brand new, I'm now realizing that maybe it just isn't for us. This may also explain why my spouse has been lukewarm about this trip since I booked it. I feel like I just experienced an aha moment!
