This was our favorite--back view toward Tokelau and table in front close to the deeper end. Ahhhhh. . .those were our towels at poolside and our junk on the table.

I'm a vegetarian and absolutely LOVED 'Ohana! We'll be there next month and it's probably the meal I'm looking forward to the most :-) They have a lot of options for vegetarians - just don't be shy about telling them you don't eat meat when you check-in. They brought me grilled tofu, a pita/hummus assortment, a stir fry with tons of tofu and veggies, and the typical salad/bread/dessert everyone else gets (if I remember correctly, they even made a separate salad without egg). I've never had an issue with getting special vegetarian plates at Disney restaurants, but 'Ohana far exceeded my expectations. You really can't go wrong with that restaurant :-)

Thank you! That would be fantastic...now if my son just liked tofu.

How are the pool views from Raratonga? I don't hear many comments from others who've stayed there. Just wondering if it would be a good building to add as a second choice if Samoa wasn't available.

We are thinking of making reservations for the Spirit of Aloha dinner show our next trip. Just wanted to know what did any of you think of it that have gone?

We've done it twice (the second time so that my CM daughter could enjoy it with us). Loved it. Food is good and plentiful and the show is cute. Kitschy in some parts, but ends with a bang.

Oh, I love this show! It's so much fun and the food really is yummy. It's a bit kitschy, but in that fun, Disney way. Also of note: the two shows are slightly different. The early show is super family-friendly while the later show seems more geared towards adults. Not in an inappropriate way, of course!

Okay, Poly family - I need your advice! I'm leaving in two weeks for eleven magical days at the Poly and truly cannot wait. But...(isn't there always a but?)...I'm feeling a little disappointed because I had to "downgrade" from CL to standard view due to some unexpected circumstances. This trip is to celebrate the 10th anniversary of my 30th birthday so I wanted it to be really special. Here's the advice part: what do all of you lovely people recommend I request for a longhouse? Or should I just ask for a balcony or patio and leave the rest up to the tiki gods? Thank you in advance!

I have a general question, but, we're staying at the Poly, so....
Is it worth telling them that the trip is for a special reason? I mean, seriously, just being there is special but, I am wondering whether telling them the reason for our trip might mean it can be extra special? I don't expect anything, it's not that, but, well, just a thought...

There's no reason not to add the celebration to your reservation by calling, but it's good to not expect anything. Things like room upgrades happen mostly for the convenience of assignors, and everyone seems to be celebrating something.

Yeah, that's what I thought. It never occurred to me to expect upgrades and such (we have booked lagoon view, and will be super happy with that)
Just that, as I mentioned, as this will be our last holiday all together (DH has Leukaemia, and won't be able to travel so far again, and we are taking BOTH of our children to the place we got married, one of them has never been to WDW before) We have booked what we want, so, no question are we expecting anything, but, I was wondering whether there might just be extra magic touches (honestly, I get so happy these days when the service I receive is over and above...) other wise, it's probably not something to share?

My boyfriend and I are checking in for our very first Poly stay this January (160 days :rolleyes1). It will also be our first deluxe stay. We are renting DVC points and were able to secure 6 days from January 16th-21st, 2017. Just wanted to share my excitement for finally booking our dream resort and also ask for any/all info you all are willing to give! We have a standard view deluxe studio booked, which of the 3 DVC buildings should I request? This is also our first time going to WDW in mid-january, as we are usually early fall travelers. Anything we should know?

TIA, we are so excited for our stay at this beautiful resort :goodvibes

I've never done it but I must say it does seem like a festive thing to do. Lots of happy people leaving the shows :)

I'd try and look at it as a smart move, $$-wise:thumbsup2 We have really enjoyed our Standard View rooms in Fiji (both on 3d floor; one on garden side, other on Marina side) the last two summers. Polynesian has great standard views, IME. The whole resort is so beautiful and lush.

We thought it was kind of cheesy. It was fine for the experience, I enjoyed the food, but I wouldn't go back.

Congrats you are going to love the Poly!! January is super unpredictable in terms of weather. We were there the third week of Jan this year, and some days were FREEZING and the next day we were in the pool. So pack layers!

It's been awhile since we did the luau, but we enjoyed it. The show is cute and although it is a little cheesy in parts, we thought the food was good and we had a great time. It's not something we'd do every trip, but it is something we would do again :).

I agree with both of the above ;).

I don't think there are any bad locations at the Poly and while I would be happy anywhere, my favorite long house is Samoa as I love being so close to both pools and just steps from the GCH, Captain Cooks, and the beach. With that said, if a balcony or patio is a priority, you might want to make that your only request instead of a specific building (just my opinion). Keep in mind that if your request isn't met, you can always ask if something else is available. It's not guaranteed your room/long house can be changed, but it never hurts to ask. Have a great time and enjoy the Poly :).

It never hurts. Some things get recognition and others don't, but you never know. So, with that said, I would have it noted on your reservation ;).

I can't help with DVC suggestions as we've never stayed in a studio, but wanted to say I hope you have a great time. As far as January weather, as a pp mentioned, it's unpredictable that time of year so I'd pack a little of everything. I've only been once in January and while it wasn't hot, some days were warm enough for shorts, while others a jacket was needed :).

Polynesian has great standard views, IME. The whole resort is so beautiful and lush.

I agree :thumbsup2.

Just looking at the August activities calendar. Does anyone know what the critter round up is? Trying to plan some resort time and wondering if this is something my kids would love. Thanks!

Does anyone have any tips on what to request? We have a DVC studio standard view. It will be DH, myself and DD who is 2. Not sure what to request or if I should just leave it to chance.

Critter roundup is when the pool activity people throw small, plastic, Oriental Trading animal creatures into the pool and kids have to get the most, the most of a certain color, the most unique critter, or whatever idea the activity people come up with. My kiddos love it and always look forward to it even though they're now 10 & 11.
