FINALLY. It's over (almost). We're booked at the Poly! Just missing 2 individual days I have waitlisted that will hopefully come through, if not, we'll have to go somewhere else for a few.

10/16 - 10/22 in a standard view
10/22 - 10/28 in a lagoon view

Going to request a high floor for lagoon view to hopefully have a nice view of the castle and fireworks and I'll stick on whatever the recommended requests were upthread for the standard to hopefully have the same. It'll be SO nice to be able to just monorail back to the resort with a baby if I need to. It'll probably the first time I won't care about hanging out the resort - love the Poly!

We will be there in 16 days for our first ever deluxe split stay at AKL/Poly!

What a great split! The Poly is our favorite resort, but we also love AKL. Hope you have a great trip :wizard:.

Quick review for those interested:
Just got back and had an amazing time at the Poly.

Room: I had stayed at the poly before in a regular room but this time stayed in a deluxe studio. The room was really nice and very spacious. I prefer it to the regular rooms. We asked to be put in Tokelau close to the main building. It was a great location and would definitely ask for that building again if I went back. We had room 3935 on the third floor. The view was really nice and it was right by the outside staircase which was really convenient. The studio was very well layed out and the two bathrooms were a great bonus. Only downside I would have to say that there was not enough room for a family of four to place our clothes and suitcases but other than that perfect.

Pool and beach: The pool was amazing and the kiddos loved the splash area. We had a really nice pool days and the pool area is a lot less crowded now that they have fenced it in. The fireworks on the beach are great. The kids loved the water patent too.

Transportation: I love the convenience of having the monorail bring us to and from the parks. We took the boat one evening to magic kingdom and the views were spectacular from the water.

Food: We ate at Kona cafe twice for breakfast and it was delicious both times. We also ate dinner at Ohana' and the food and service were better than I had remembered. We had drinks with the kids at Trader's Sam. Kids are allowed anytime before 8:00PM. We looked inside but decided on the terrace which had nice fireplaces, a waterfall and a live performer. I had the fuzzy pineapple which is now my favourite drink of all time and my husband had the margarita which he said was very good too.

Conclusion: It felt like we had traveled the pacific but were steps away from Disney. Could not have had a better trip! Love the Poly!

Glad you had a great time. Love the pics, thanks for sharing :flower3:.

Has anyone ever requested a specific room/long house? How well does that go?
Lots of people request specific longhouses. In fact, online check in almost encourages it.

The more specific your request the harder it is to fulfill, though. Based on when you're being assigned very often specific rooms will already be full, and the assignor then either has to guess why you wanted that room, or just spitballs. I think the default is spitballs, because assignor isn't a job with a lot of navel-gazing time over individual assignments!

I saw someone at a desk having a tantrum over not getting a specific room number once (not at Poly). Didn't end how they wanted it to. If someone's in the room, you ain't getting it.

For anyone that is within 60 days of their Polynesian DVC stay and has a Deluxe Studio-Standard View reservation, can you tell me what the Room Request options are for Online Check-In? A screen shot would be awesome!

Thanks!:flower3:

Requesting a longhouse and even a floor is a good request but anything too specific could be a problem. As it was described to me by the staff in the back office of the Polynesian, the system that was put in place in 2010 is better than the old way of assigning rooms This is what they said about it. “The best way to request is by doing it through whoever you did your reservation (Disney or travel agent). With the new system in place requests can be taken at any time before you check in (in person or online). You can put in a request the day you book, 12 months away or 10 days before you get there. The new system uploads your reservation immediately and not 9 days out like the old system. If you check in online than you need to be within your 10 day window to do that and no requests can be submitted after you check in.”

Your room is not assigned by a person but by the resort computer system used to assign rooms. If you have to specific of a request and the computer does not find that available it will then just assign one randomly.

If you are DVC, you should put your request through member services. If you rented DVC points, ask the member to do so.

Standard View Studios are in Tokelau, Pago Pago and the back side of Moorea.

I would like to know what the "Online Check-In" standard Room Request options are.

We requested to have adjourning rooms on the bottom floor. Is this sort of request fairly easy to get?

I would assume requesting a specific longhouse would complicate things...

If you wanted to spend a lot of time in the oasis pool and wanted to be close to everything where would you request? I'm thinking Samoa..I also want a king bed, would my thinking be correct? But on the other hand would love a view of the castle but I know I cant get it all.....:genie:

If you want rooms next to each other than ask for adjoining but if you want them to have a door that is between the two rooms then your request needs to be for connecting rooms. You can still ask for a longhouse. All longhouses have connecting rooms.

Samoa is a good choice for location and near both pools. There are no king bed rooms with a lagoon or themepark view category and non of the king bed rooms with a standard view can see the castle.

I guess I can walk to the beach to see the fireworks... Thank You..

Thanks for the review! We leave in 8 days!!! I've been thinking about the clothing storage situation. We're staying for 11 nights so I definitely want to unpack. There are only 3 of us, so hopefully it won't be so tight. I was thinking of either bringing hangers or packing cubes (link below). I think DS6, I'm going to put his clothes in gallon ziplocs and then use the bathroom drawers. Do you think that will work? Any other hints or suggestions? Do suitcases fit under the bed? Or did you put them in the closet or something? Thanks!

We have 5 for 10 days and we make it work. There are a few drawers in each of the bathrooms so everyone gets one and there are two drawers under the bed (DH and DS get one), DD19 gets the trunk, and DD10 and I use the closet and permit a few pieces to hang if the others need it, but we double or triple hang on each hanger sometimes. Connecting door (if not using) is a great place to leave extra shoes or a suitcase or two, others fit under bed or in closet. One of these days I may request for them to remove the playpen in the closet, since we don't need it and it takes up space.

Do you mean in front of the connecting door? Did you bring hangars or did you have enough with what was provided? Thanks for the detailed info!!

Here ya go :)

Tokelau, beach end, high floor. There are a limited number of Standard Views with much of a fireworks view, and they seem to all be the first few rooms of Tokelau.

The best views are from Tokelau 2914 and 3914 but most of the upper floors all the way to the far end near Rarotonga can still see the castle and fireworks. Even some ground floor rooms have a view of the fireworks. The only other room in Tokelau that can see the castle and fireworks is the East Corner but the rest of the east side rooms do not see the castle. Maybe some rooms in Pago Pago might see the highest fireworks from over Moorea if your on an upper floor.

If you are too specific with your room requests then how does touring plans work? If you are putting in specific rooms that you want and it's not available then wouldn't the system just randomly assign you somewhere else then? Wouldn't it be better to say you want connecting rooms in a specific longhouse? Just was wondering as we are coming at the end of August this year and never used touring plans as a way to put in our room request
