Just got here.....

I, for the first time, did not get my room request. My TA made the request, gave me the names of the CM's she double confirmed with and there was no record of her request. But they did have the note she put in of our 10yr anniversary celebration. We are being moved to a patio room at Samoa tomorrow.

I was told at check in fences will be going up at the quiet pool in Monday because I spefically asked when we were looking for a different room for us. I also asked if Samoa had any work going on and he said no it was all done at this point which is why I agreed to switch rooms tomorrow. We're heading out to look in a few.

I'll report back later!

I think the room issue was with my TA bad exp w her booking ( which we've always has a great exp w her) and the Poly was SUPER great at finding us a room we liked better. If they follow through tomorrow AM is the question!

Has anyone done the Spirit of Aloha dinner show with a toddler? Our DD will be almost 4 when we go in December and I'm wondering if she'd enjoy it or if it's really better for older kids. Thanks!

Checked in today.. Got a room on the first floor Hawaii looking at the first bungalow.. I can see the castle between the 1st and second bungalow.. Awesome despite the lounge chair joggers at the pool. They threw towels on 7 chairs and the took an umbrella table!
The lady behind me and I think they were not resort guests because they had too many questions about the hotel

keep us posted on what starts with construction tomorrow at east pool (if it starts, that is LOL!)

We stayed Poly CL from 6/8-6/15. It was our first time staying at this resort and our stay was absolutely amazing! We almost switched to the GF because we were nervous about construction, but we had absolutely no issues at all!
We were upgraded to a lagoon/theme park view and we watched Wishes from our balcony almost every nite.
Kona Cafe is our new favorite restaurant. We had 2 wonderful meals there!

Glad you had a good time and enjoyed the Poly, congrats on the upgrade. We have loved all of the resorts we've stayed at, but the Poly remains our favorite :goodvibes.

Just called our TA to pay off our September trip today:yay:. Soo excited!

Do we need to request a pack and play in advance or are they already in the rooms/do we request it when we get there? We're in a standard room (not DVC) if that makes a difference.

Also, how big are the fridges? My mom is coming out and DD and I are staying at POFQ for 2 nights before the family Poly stay - we're planning a grocery run, but I want to make sure I don't overestimate fridge space - can I fit a full gallon of milk or a half gallon in there?

Congrats on being PIF ....September will be here before you know it! I agree with the pp that I would have a pack-n-play noted on your reservation.

Thanks! The WL is going to be undergoing major renovation for the next 2 years commencing in the Fall 2015. We love it there but not when all torn up. When I called Guest Services, they gave us the option of moving to Poly, BC, or BWI. We have been to all 3 and like different things at each. We have not been to the Poly for 3 years so I wasn't sure how things were going there at this point. BWI is not a favorite due to weird layout and theming. BC has awful quick service and only draw for us is the pool which is not a huge factor in December. So, Poly has most of what we like in Quick service, transport is great, and while holiday theming is minimal, it is still beautiful.

We've stayed at all of them except BWI and while we do love the WL, the Poly is our favorite, so that would be my choice. Captain Cooks is our favorite resort CS, we love being on the monorail, and the tropical surroundings are beautiful and relaxing. We did enjoy the BC, but we would choose the Poly over it every time :).

I'm sorry you didn't get your request met, but glad they are able to move you. Hope things with the room change go as planned and you have a great time at the Poly :wizard:.

It's been a few years since we went to SoA, but I do remember little kids being there. Our boys weren't toddlers when we went so I can't comment on taking a little one, but we enjoyed the food and thought the show was nice :).

Tikiman really translates to "The Man" in my dictionary. Fellow Poly fans are lucky to have his insight. His page was most helpful for our big 16 person trip a few years back! I know a lot of the standard rooms are near the East Pool Longhouses. If we come this December, would there be decent view standard rooms in Longhouses away from that area we could request?

I'm curious about that too. We're booked for mid-Dec, right before the Christmas rush, and it looks like most standard view rooms are in the buildings that will border the construction.

Also, does anyone think that maybe the main pool hours will be longer while the quiet pool is closed? We're super excited to try the Poly for the first time but really concerned about the pool situation. If the main pool has the ridiculously short hours I'm coming to expect of WDW in the winter (Tikiman says 10 to 8) and there's no quiet pool for later evening swimming we might not have a chance to swim at all on our trip. :(

What was your request & where did they put you? Just wondering, did you do online check in? We had our TA (who is great) put our requests in too, but I also did online check in and ticked boxes with my (same) requests of building & floor as well.
I'm wondering if you put requests in the online check in if they look?

That sounds like the exact room we had last week!! To us, the location and view from our room was/is the best we've ever had in WDW.

Maybe a CM will walk around the pool area with an ipad to scan MBs and give out wristbands. This happened during our trip, but it was a holiday week and they could've been expecting hoppers. However, I think it's a practice that should be kept at all times.

EDIT to add: Let me know what you think about the outlets. We had a hard time keeping our iphones/ipads securely plugged in as the outlets seemed very loose.

Hello all! We will be staying in a Poly studio for one night on June 24. We are staying at the BC for the first 9 nights of our trip. A "bonus" night was added at the end due to Southwest's fabulous sale! Our family has never stayed at the Polynesian before so we are all super excited! We usually visit the resort at least once each trip. 'Ohana is our favorite restaurant on Disney property and enjoyed several meals at Capt. Cooks. I'm looking forward to seeing all of the changes that have been made around the resort and with GCH.

View sounds fabulous!! Bummer about the pool hoppers - like everyone else, I was hoping the fence would cut down on that :sad2:. If you get a chance, can you let us know how the resort is affected by the quiet pool construction? We'll be there in two weeks and have a GV CL room booked - I'm not too concerned about the view as we don't spend a lot of time on the balcony, but just wondering what else we need to prepare for!

Have a wonderful vacation!! :thumbsup2

I'm leaning toward planning a late August 2016 trip and would love to stay at the Poly. I see that people are booking now for that time! What are the advantages and disadvantages of booking this early? TIA! :flower:

Unless you're planning on staying at Poly with or without a discount, there isn't an advantage of booking so early IMO. Since I'm not going to pay rack rate, I book the moment discounts are released. Having a reservation before discounts are released doesn't guarantee you a discounted room. So either you have to stay on top of it or get a WDW specialized TA who will book you the moment discounts are released. They go fast.

Sounds like a great room! Congrats!

I can't believe some of these lounge hogs. 7 lounges AND umbrella table :sad2: unbelievable. I probably would have said something to a lifeguard.

If you will stay at the Poly regardless of whether or not a discount comes out, booking now guarantees you to get exactly what you want for the dates you want. If your trip is dependent on a discount, it's best to wait and see what (if any) discounts are released for your dates. Since Disney releases discounts to fill rooms, not all resorts/room types are offered with a promo. If a resort is at or near capacity, Disney will see no need to offer a discount on that particular resort (or certain room types) or the discount could be offered at a lesser percentage than other resorts. Booking now at rack rate means there's one less room Disney needs to fill later on and is one room closer to filling the resort at a non-discounted rate.
