Disney's Not So Magical Express

Good to know but their wait even after checking in at the resorts in both cases was more like 5 + hours. I was just wondering if that might have been a freak thing that day or if that's the norm now. We have never waited that long but in the future we'll keep luggage with us.

What time you land doesn't factor. Only when you check in at the resort does the clock start ticking. So if someone landed at 7 pm a safe guestimate is they were checking in at 8:30 or later. As the delivery window is 3-4 hours their bags were not very late being delivered, if they were late at all.

You should get your bags within 3-4 hours of checking in. Airport arrival time doesn't matter.

All less than optimal experiences are exactly why we've never done DME. With a service like it is (transporting many people and many pieces of luggage to many different locations), there's always a strong possibility you'll end up on the short end of the stick.

I'm sure it's great when your bus leaves right after you get on, when you are the first resort off loaded, and when your luggage arrives in a few hours. But, when you are the first one on a new bus & have to wait for it to fill, when you are the last resort to be offloaded, or when your luggage arrives many hours after you do, it can put a real damper on your vacation.

Nope, I'll stick with my rental car and be in control of my own destiny (and luggage). That way I know I'll never start my vacation spending so much time waiting, and waiting, and waiting...
