in Your opinion wich one is better?? :) . Personally i think the Disney Parties are MUCH more fun . but Halloween Horor Nights are a nice change from disney every now and then if your in to those Classic Horror Films like Jason, Freddy , ect , theyll be worht it but it didnt really feel like a "party" atmosphere. Mickeys Halloween Party Feels way more like a Party to me and Disneys theming is Second to none

Please note that this is coming from someone who has attended a MNSSHP but has never attended Universals Halloween Horror Night.

I think it depends on what you want.

MNSSHP is pretty much "safe" for kids. Nothing too scary for all but the most timid. Nice parade, special events and Hallowishes fireworks. Oh...and don't forget all the candy you could want.

Universals Halloween Horror Night I think is geared for the more "mature" set. It looks to be a bit more intense and might scare the little ones.

I'm sure that someone that has attended both could weigh in with additional thoughts.

I guess it all depends on what you're looking for. Yes, MNSSHP is terrific..I love it. It's great for the whole family. Last year was the first time we had done it. While in Orlando, we headed over to Universal for the day. I have to say that their Halloween decor was pretty good. I can only imagine what it was like during their party night!! But, not for kids or the faint of heart, I'm sure. If you want the dickens scared out of you, I suggest Universal. If you want a fun, spooky night, head to MNSSHP.

I go to both. every year. MNSSHP is indeed a party. is cute, and everybody in the family can have a good time. like the name says "not so scarey". :cloud9:

Universal horror nights is dark, bloody, gorey and gruesome. I would NOT recommend anyone under 13 to attend this event. there is no party. only dark scare zones with monsters jumping out at you, (I heard there are fewer scare zones this year though) chainsaw monsters getting after you with their chainsaws, and girls in cages dancing provocatively. (that stuff I wish they would cut out) there is loads of people drinking & smoking. the haunted houses are really good, but don't go in there with a weak heart. the lines for the houses are crazy long unless you buy express passes. thats the only way I'll go because of the long lines and half drunk idiots in the lines. when I say idiots, I mean those who smoke in lines despite the rules, foul mouths, those who think they can put on a show by making out, etc..

I don't know why I even bother with this event, (horror nights) but I enjoy the haunted houses. but if you go, BUY EXPRESS PASSES! :)

I agree that it is not for younger kids. It is actually scary. The haunted houses are awesome and just walking around can be scary also.

The two experiences are so different that it is hard to compare the two.

I went to both last weekend, HHN on Saturday and MNSSHP on Sunday. They are both fun events but completely different! For HHN we had a babysitter and left the kids at home. It is a very scary event for adults and teenagers. No way would I bring my young children. But, I look forward to it every year because it is very well done and fun for DH and me. MNSSHP on the other hand is a great family evening. My kids love it and we all have a wonderful time. It is like comparing apples to oranges. In my sig below I have links to trip reports for both events.

Has anyone gone to Busch Gardens Halloween? We went last year in VA.
I was wondering how those haunted Houses compared to Universals.
Do we really need express tickets? It will be me , Dh, DD 11, DS 12 and my dad who is almost 85! (He enjoyed Bush Gardens last year.. and the year before he rode mummy@Universal..)

They're different things,Disney's is more for kids and the entire family and Halloween Horror Nights is for teenagers and adults and in my opinion the best Halloween event out there.I pretty much go every year and what makes them the best is they mostly have new houses, shows and scare zones every year with amazing theming and detail, like the year they had 6 foot high foam covering the entire street was very cool.Somebody said they have less houses this year than other year's,that's not true, they actually have the most houses ever with 8.

I did Busch Gardens Howl-O-Scream this past saturday and honestly their houses are pretty much on par with Universal's.I haven't been to Horror Nights this year, but for example I think 2 years ago I thought Howl-O-scream had better overall houses. This year they had 6 houses,I think 3 or 4 were new,3 or 4 scare zones and 3 shows which I thought 2 were kinda lame, the only good one was the Fiends show which is like 3-4 years old, but still good.Overall it's a good event, but expect to do more walking than at Universal since Busch is a bigger park with everything more spread out.

Like the other posters have said..it all depends upon what you're looking for. To me...HHN IS a party and for me...it's much better than Disney...again...it depends on what you're looking for. I have no interest in going to MNSSHP since I have trick or treaters at my house every year and I have no kids. I'm one of the locals who anxiously awaits HHN every year and will not miss it for anything. On the theming statement...I hope you're talking about the decorations outside because there is NO way Disney can even compete with HHN as far as the houses go...mainly since Disney doesn't do that type of theming for Halloween.

Bottom line is this....If you're looking for a cutesy evening with the kids, go to MNSSHP...if you want to hang out with a more mature crowd and get the daylights scared out of you...leave the kiddies with a sitter and head to HHN.

MNSSHP is far from a party for any adult without kids... unless you still get your kicks out of trick-or-treating. I don't know why these events are even being compared. They are aimed at two very different demographics. But as someone already mentioned, Disney's Halloween decorations don't touch what Universal pulls off every year. Disney basically does the same thing every year while Universal puts on a brand new production each year that is much bigger in scale.

Actually I really enjoyed MNSSHP party, and I'm an adult. My husband liked it too, though he would have rather gone to HHN.

I'm a chicken, but love Halloween so we went with MNSSHP this time. We will be trying HHN at some point, but I'm guessing I won't like it as much as MNSSHP.

And we did most of the activites for MNSSHP including trick or treating... and dressing up..

So, I think MNSSHP can appeal to adults... it sure did for us anyway.

I am an adult and I much prefer Disneys MNSSHP . Universal's is just a bunch of blood and gore,(fake, of course) which to me is unnecessary. Freedy and jason and all those moivr horror charcters, not into it. I much prefer "pshycological" horror movie than the bloody murderous kind. Like Alfred Hitchcock's films. The 'slasher" movies started with 'Psyco" but that was bloody but it was mostly psycoligical, (ok i cant spell tonight). There is much more to that movie than just the shower scene.

There is no comparison, aside from that they're both Halloween Events.

Mickey's Party = fun, cutesy, light, great for all ages. Bring the kids.

HHN = scary, gory, twisted, sexual, PG-13. Hire a sitter.

Scary fact (pun intended): some people bring their young children to HHN. By young I mean 10 and under. Sometimes you'll see strollers! No joke!

We have done both and enjoyed both very much.
They are different, and meant to be different, so hard to say what is better over another.
We just go with what fits our schedule best. And sadly, MNSSHP usually does not.
Plus we have the Frequect Fear pass for HHN. That way if one night is rained out, not an issue. The same cannot be said for MNSSHP or Disney other hard ticket events.

I have never been to WDW's MNSSHP.
And i do know that it is kid friendly, fun, little spooks, and CANDY! :thumbsup2
So i think that's the one you should go with a family full of kids. If you always wanted to be in a Horror Movie you have to go to HHN at Universal. I went once and i think that was the most scary thing i've expirenced. The makeup is awesome they put on them. It's crazy!! I went to the bathroom and i saw feet under the door. I was waiting and this lady popped out of the stall with a bloody mouth, hair picked up in a messy bun, plaid pants, and a bra :scared1:

It looked like she came out of a trailer park. Idk, if she was part of the event, or dressed like she was part of it. But it was way scary!!! :lmao:

I went when i was 11, i look forward to going back, but i don't think i can handle 2 nights of HHN maybe 1. :scared:

She must of been part of HHN. Guests aren't aloud to be in costumes! :scared1:

I agree with just about everyone here. It's like comparing apples to oranges. If you're looking for something scary without kids (bringing small kids: big NO NO), HHN is for you. MNSSHP is the way to go if you're looking for something to go to with your kids. To me, both are awesome. I went to MNSSHP on 9/14 and HHN will be 10/19. This was my first time going to MNSSHP, and this will be my second time going to HHN. Both I'll be doing next year too, most likely! :goodvibes

We're going down in a couple weeks. I got the idea that MNSSHP was for young kids or "trick-or-treaters" from the website. Am I wrong? It's myself, my DH and my older teenage niece going. My DH is dragging us (literally) to HHN bc we're a little chicken, :scared1: so maybe I can drag him there. But if its really more for young kids not so sure I want to waste my time. We're all young at heart who love Disney, and we will be doing MK one day while there, but it really seems more for young trick or treaters? Would adults without young children enjoy it?

The workers at Universal are all about scaring people at these parties, so if you have young children who frighten easily my suggestion is not to go. For adults it is a lot of fun, but completely different then the NOT SO SCARY option!
One year my sister went and was chased down the street by a guy in a chainsaw at Universal, he didn't stop until my sister ducked into a shop... she said she would never go back there after that - it scared the living daylights out of her.

We're all young at heart who love Disney, and we will be doing MK one day while there, but it really seems more for young trick or treaters? Would adults without young children enjoy it?
I love it at MNSSHP - I am 36 and dress up and enjoy all the shows, the line free rides and seeing the characters all dressed up for the party! If you love disney I think you will really enjoy the party.

I've done both and as everyone has said they are totally different. As two adults we weren't really into the characters or candy but the parade and fireworks at MNSSHP were fantastic. We tried HHN this year an loved it, it's really not suitable for children, even the shows have adult humour and I was crazy scared in the houses.
So although I enjoyed both, we'll be attending HHN again in the future.
