Just got back in the wee hours of the morning today (Saturday) from 6 nights at POFQ.

DME worked perfectly, and wonderfully, just like it did the first time I took it.

Saturday, November 4, 2006. I walked off my AirTran flight at 9:53 p.m. It took us exactly 10 minutes to walk to the DME Welcome Center. I got there at 10:03 a.m. The CM in charge of the line told me that only one member of my party was "permitted" into the line, which seemed like an odd comment considering my wife already diverted with our kids across the way to some comfy chairs. Anyway, I got checked in within one minute, and I was walking away from the counter at 10:04 a.m. (there had been one person in line in front of me, and he and I were called by two different CMs at almost the same time).

We walked into our bus queue, which was empty; the sign said this queue was for POFQ, POR and FW. In fact, all of the bus queues were empty. As soon as we reached the front of our little roped-off area, a CM asked us to follow him to our bus. The process of walking from the counter to boarding the bus (including giving some carry-ons to the driver) took 2 minutes. We boarded the bus at 10:06 p.m.

There were exactly 12 people on the bus when we got on. I have no idea how long they had been on the bus. Others got on after us -- I didn't count, but it was no more than about 10 others. We backed up and pulled out of our spot at 10:21 p.m., so we'd waited on the bus for 15 minutes.

We watched the pleasant DVD welcoming us to WDW. It ended precisely at the moment we pulled into POFQ. As I exited the bus (two families exited before I did), it was 10:49 p.m.

Walked off the plane at 9:53 p.m., stepped onto the ground at POFQ at 10:49 p.m. 56 minutes total.

With DME, it took us 56 minutes from walking off the plane to walking into POFQ.

We packed our carry-ons with the idea that we'd have our DME luggage held 'til morning. That was our plan all along, but I guess fatigue and excitement combined to prevent me from requesting our luggage to be held until morning. At 1:16 a.m., our phone rang -- it was Bell Services asking if we wanted our luggage now or later. "Later, please." The DME literature says to allow about 3 hours after your resort arrival for your luggage to arrive. Ours was apparently ready for delivery about 2.5 hours after we arrived.

On the return trip, our bus was scheduled to arrive at 4:40 p.m. on Friday, November 10. It arrived at 4:30 p.m., and my guess is it arrived early because one of the scheduled passengers rode an ECV, and it took time for the driver to load the ECV, etc. There were 26 passengers on the bus, which also meant a lot of luggage for the driver to load -- seemed to be very few of us on participating airlines!

We pulled out of POFQ at 4:55 p.m., and went directly to MCO, no other stops. We had some traffic to content with (Friday rush hour), and once we got to the airport we were held up for about 5 minutes by a small shuttle that was occupying two slots, one of them apparently ours. We got off the bus at 5:39 p.m. We didn't ask, but the driver gave us great directions to the AirTran counter, and we were lucky in that it was quite close. The door nearest us opened right in front of an escalator, and on the other side of the escalator was an elevator. We took the elevator up to the 3rd floor and made a right, and AirTran was the first airline.

I continue to be impressed with how well DME works. I'm 2 for 2, two uses and two excellent experiences.

Trying to figure out what time they will pick us up for our return flight - 6:15 pm.

They pick up 3 hours ahead. Your pickup will be at or around 3:15.

I love DME except for the time it takes, but I am usually not in a hurry.

I've been routinely picked up 2 1/2-2 3/4 hrs before my flight times...It's nice to not have to feel rushed or worried about missing your flight.

Eric....so, it looks like I'm not the only one out there who is checking their watch and making note of time spent walking to the checkin desk or the time in the line!!! I actually made notes one time, just to be sure I could report back accurate times!!! Glad it's working so well...I had a similar experience three weeks ago!!

I'm glad to hear they've worked out the kinks! We went the very first week it was offered. We had no luggage tags, had to wait in one long line to describe our luggage to be picked up (it would have been faster to claim it ourselves and bring it to the bus), and then another very, very long line to get a bus. Then the luggage didn't arrive for over 9 hours for some of our party. In all fairness it was the first week and everyone was working very hard. I was sure Disney would get it together!

We've had such great times on ME that we are now just taking it for all of our trips and renting the cars for a few days at either the CCC or DTD hotel locations.

We just got our Dec docs for our 4th time useing ME Without a problem.

No free pins for trading this time I'll have to check into that. But it's a nice way to start our vacation . A Free ride and no bags to worry about.

Diane, I actually timed everything the very first time I used DME, too. I was VERY invloved with another Disney message board community, and I was the first of the group to use it, on May 8, 2005, the fourth day of DME operations.

One of the people from that board, whom we know here as kaytieeldr (Ronda), was brave enough to entrust me with her telephone number so I could call her with my DME arrival experiences so that she could then post the almost-live information onto that message board. Since no one had ever used DME before, everyone was eager to learn how it worked and how long it took, so I took careful notes back then, and I also took careful notes this time, too.

So that brings me to my comment on dr&mom's post ... seems I had a much better experience than you did last year. On 5/08/05, my luggage arrived at my resort 3 or 4 hours after my arrival -- I don't know the exact time because
my wife and I had our kids in the CBR pool, enjoying the start of our vacation. I'm not at all doubting your experience :goodvibes , but my experience was that no bugs needed to be worked out, that it was great from the get-go.

My experiences both times were pretty much identical: timely, efficient and pleasant.

And I have to say, the trust was warranted. I have not received a single prank or annoying phone call in all that time :teeth:. Well, except from political candidates, but since we're in different states I know Eric had NOTHING to do with that!

I want you to know that in my wallet AND in my WDTC plastic envelope of travel documents (on the trip I just returned from less than 48 hours ago) I had 3 phone numbers with me:
  • my next-door neighbor, who was looking in on my cat and tropical fish;

  • our babysitter's cellphone number, because we're lucky enough that that Jersey Girl happens to go to college at University of Central Florida and needed to earn some cash AND misses our kids;

  • Ronda, just in case I needed on-site help from my WDW guru

The target is to pick up about 2.75 hours prior to flight. Each resort can get 2 pick-ups per hour, 30 minutes apart. For example, POFQ pick-ups are scheduled for :10 and :40 after the hour, CBR's are scheduled for :00 and :30 after the hour, etc. Your pick-up will be scheduled with the 2.75 hour target AND the normally-scheduled pick-up times for your resort in mind.

We took the express last Jan. flying on a participating airline.This year will will be flying Midwest and can not check our luggage in at the POR for our return flight the morning we leave. Is there any way to get boarding passes at POR if you don't have a laptop with you?

Go to your resort's Guest Services desk and they will help you.
