Disney's Hollywood Studios 20th Anniversary

Most people probably won't know, but 2009 marks the 20th anniversary of the Studios park at WDW, and the forward-thinking fan-based WDWCelebrations group is planning one of their two big annual events around the occasion. For the full details, read their latest announcement:

WDWCelebrations is excited to formally announce our next event: Studio 20

A WDWCelebrations Commemorative Event honoring the 20th Anniversary of Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Join us Friday, May 1 – Saturday, May 2, 2009 for two fun-filled days with like-minded Disney fans to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this great park.

Registration for Studio 20 will open on January 1, 2009. Further details including a tentative schedule will be released at that time. Newsletter subscribers will receive a sneak preview of the tentative schedule a few days before registration opens.

We’d like to thank everyone who joined us for the World Wide Weekend in September. We had a great time and hope you did too. We've added an event recap as well as several photos from the event to the World Wide Weekend page in our Event Archive at http://www.wdwcelebrations.com/event-archive.html. In addition, PDF versions of the event schedule, World Showcase Scavenger Hunt, scavenger hunt answer key, and the Downtown Disney Pleasure Island History Walk script are also available on our website for all to enjoy.

We’re also proud that we were able to make another donation to the DisneyWorldTrivia Dream Team Project in conjunction with the World Wide Weekend event. On Friday September 26, we presented Lou Mongello with a virtual check for $500, and we sincerely thank everyone who helped make that happen, especially our Premium Registrants (a portion of each Premium Registration fee was included in the donation total). Just a quick up-date on this, as the WDWCelebrations team have had to delay the opening of registration for this event, for reasons which will be explained:

Happy New Year! We at WDWCelebrations want to wish you a happy and healthy 2009!

Although we planned to open registration today for our next event, Studio 20, which takes place May 1-2, 2009, we have developed a new registration system and are currently preparing and testing this new system. Therefore, registration for Studio 20 will open sometime in mid-January. As we promised previously, newsletter subscribers will receive a sneak preview of the tentative schedule a few days before registration officially opens.

Many attendees of our previous events have provided feedback indicating that early-morning distribution of registration credentials may not be convenient for everyone. Based on this feedback, our newly redesigned registration system will enable us to utilize a new method of distribution for registration credentials. Beginning with Studio 20 and for all future events, we will now mail registration credentials in advance to all registered event attendees. In order to implement this new service, it will be necessary for us to charge a small registration fee to cover our shipping expenses.

We hope that this new registration system will make it easier for you to participate in our event without having to worry about getting to the sign-in table early in the morning. thanks for this information Simon - too bad, i was originally scheduled to be at WDW then - but my trip is delayed now (DS decided to get married on may 11th - right when i was to be on the podcast cruise - oh well)...

hard to believe it's been 20 years since MGM opened....i must be old...

Yes, it is amazing how quickly these anniversaries seem to come around. I still find it hard to believe it is 2009 as, the last time I looked, I'm sure it was half-past June!!
