Construction was everywhere. It wasn't a big issue in RPC until Monday night at 12:30 am and they were doing work. We were off the lobby and could hear it all.

The new carpet looks beautiful, I think it’s so much prettier than the old gold & green carpet. But construction at midnight?!! What the heck! Was there any notice it was going to happen, did you speak to anyone about it? That seems totally unacceptable. We’re there in a few days for 4 nights. I can deal with it during the day, but anything overnight should be limited to quiet reno like painting.

Oh I went down at midnight and asked when it was going to stop. There was no notice. It sounded like they were sanding something. The girl working the desk was super apologetic- it was clear there was miscommunication between Disney and the construction company going on. She was handling a lot of call complaints too. She said that both night and day CM heads were aware of it and trying to figure out why it was going on. It was supposed to be done at 12:15, but at 1:30 they were still doing stuff.

The day manager called me in the morning and made it right. She was upset on our behalf that it happened, but pretty adamant that it was a fluke that shouldn't have and wouldn't happen again. I got the feeling she had spoken to many upset families that whole morning. We were checking out the next day so we were just extra tired. I think if we had been there longer, they would have granted a room change.

Otherwise, we heard minor noise when we were in the room, but nothing horrible since other lobby noise drowned it out.

We were the during the week of the 18th when the roof of the cage went on and they were working at 3:30 am in the morning placing the roof and the beep noise of the machine was full volume. Then again the next night till 230 am dropping aluminum on the floor. It's not a fluke right now, they seem behind and must be dealing with complaints on an individual basis. I didn't however complain about it because we were too busy with a different issue. Can you DM what they did? I have the day managers number.

Ugh I am so sorry to hear that two more people have had such issues! So disappointing! I would love to move to a TPV but so far none have been available every time I have checked.

My husbands actual reaction was "Yep, that's carpet." I think it's pretty. I wouldn't put it in my house but for a hotel lobby, I like it.

I am pleasantly surprised!

The florals don't bother me. The area rugs and hallways are also large flowers. I'm actually happy there looks to be some solid portions with border/trim in @tinydancer312 's third photo. It makes me hopeful the main lobby will be sectioned off with designs like the older carpet and the grand staircase will get special treatment. I fully expected Disney to cheap out and throw down the same carpet lining the halls, but it seems GF is getting the treatment it deserves. Plus it's much fresher looking than the old carpet and I actually prefer the predominant color being blue vs the old green.

a bit off topic from carpet and construction...

Has anyone been in the gym lately at the Grand Floridian? Not that I will definitely work out on our next trip (though I dutifully pack at least one workout outfit ;-) ) , but it's always a "maybe" especially since we won't be going into the parks on arrival day.

We checked in on 21st August, and the drilling was so loud the cast member had ear plugs in and everyone had to step outside to speak to their respective cast member for check-in. Not ideal when 100 degrees. We avoided the area on Friday until after they had finished for the day, then it was weekend thankfully. Checked out Tuesday. Tarnished it a little as my nephew has ASD and he didn't want to go near the lobby, I had to go first to check the noise levels.

Exactly how it looks in the concept art, wonder if the carpet will follow as well. Never know what’s going to survive concept art to reality transition with Disney but definitely doesn’t look like they intend for the blue floral pattern to be the lobby carpet.

Tea Room Construction Walls Expanded & Birdcage Bar Gets Concrete at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort

Garden View Tea Room​

The Garden View Tea Roomconstruction zone has expanded. In our last update, the walls were located right in front of the lounge entrance. As of August 28, they have pushed out a bit further into the lobby seating area. The walls completely wrap around the columns supporting the roof overhang as well as the planters that line this side of the lobby.



There are rolling carts, trim, rolls of material, and construction tools staged outside the entrance of the space. It’s unclear what is currently inside the room due to the scrim on the windows, but we did spot some boxes, cabinets, and chairs.

The Garden View Tea Room has not operated since 2020.

Birdcage Bar​

Last week, we reported the birdcage bar got its roof supports and vertical framework. Now, drywall surrounds the steel beams near the bottom, and concrete has been installed by the floor.



The images above show a before and after comparison of the bar. The image on the left was taken during our last update, while the image on the right is from this most recent visit. Most notably, the concrete around the sides and floor was missing from our last update.

The new bar will be a place for guests to order drinks in the lobby. It replaces the actual birdcage that used to sit in this space. The concept art for the upcoming bar shows brass accents, stained glass, and intricate woodwork paying homage to the resort’s Victorian styling.

Elevators​

Crews have seemingly completed the work near the left elevator on the lobby floor and have switched to working on the elevator to the right. Woodwork is missing from the top of the right elevator entrance, and the damaged wall is visible.

Curtains surround the closed elevator to keep guests out of the area.



The lobby’s main staircase continues to be inaccessible, with construction walls, tarps, and stanchions blocking the whole area.

There are rumors that Promenade Art Gallery from the Boardwalk may move over to the closed Tea Room... I'm having a hard time picturing it and hope the rumors are false...

Could BBB work on the 2nd floor? That too has been closed for a while and seems like more comparable square footage?
