Resort Thread Disney's GRAND FLORIDIAN Resort & Spa + Construction Updates!! **LOBBY REFURB STARTED 4/14**

They are going to do a remodel of all the hotel rooms after BPK gets converted and also redoing the lobby. It has been announced many places but I don’t think I’ve seen an exact date.
Ok, thanks. Wonder if the rooms will be radically changed, like the Poly was? I have a trip I just scheduled for the Fourth and will be at the GF so was concerned about something other than BPK reno.

The new rooms will look like the BPK rooms. They doing them all the same. They look amazing!

Hey guys! Just wanted to link you to a POST I had put up in March. Only one website reported that the rooms will be the same as the new BPK rooms, and they, (along with one other site) were also the only ones to mention a renovated, updated lobby. Nothing has been confirmed on Disney’s end. I’m not saying that the website that reported it does not have any inside information… just do not want everyone to get their hopes up - just yet! Of course, if I do hear anything or see anything, I will post it here immediately! I think no matter what they do, as far as renovations go, it’s going to be beautiful! I’m looking forward to some new announcements, which I would hope will start soon, since BPK is scheduled to open June 20!

Wow June 20th? The building didn't look ready last I saw it.

Thanks for the heads up too!

Sigh......While I think the new rooms are beautiful, they are not as functional as the current design. I really hope the Resort rooms are slightly different than the BPK DVC rooms. I just don't understand why they would move the closets into the sleeping space and put that desk/bench in the entryway. We used the desk and chair extensively in the current design as it is in the sleeping/lounging area of the room. In the new design, we would not use it for eating, drinking coffee, sitting while we all socialize during down time. It is too far removed being in the entryway. I guess it would be useful for someone needing to do work on vacation.

The desk placement is interesting to say the least, though it may prove to be more functional in practice than it looks. I’m picturing it as a landing spot for hats, bags, water bottles and things you take on/off right inside the door. Nice to keep that clutter out of the main living space. It also looks like a handy extra vanity space for when that bathroom is busy.

I’m a little more concerned about the closet placement. It might be troublesome if someone is trying to rest on the bed and someone else needs in the closet, especially at night when the closet light comes on.

But I will say that these may be the most beautiful hotel rooms Disney has ever designed. Maybe these things will work just fine once we get used to them. 🤞 Can’t wait to try in November!

We’ll be there 8/3, cannot wait to try out the new BPK rooms, I think the setup will work well for us and they are so beautiful.

I hope the construction isn't too intrusive, we're really looking forward to our GF stay but I worry now. Staying late August and don't want to feel like we're in a construction zone the whole time.

I am thinking about booking a new resort studio room lagoon view. Does anyone have like a map of where those rooms would actually be? Never been to GF. Trying to see if Lagoon view will be worth it over the standard view ( theme park view is too pricy )

I am assuming all the videos online showing the room balconys aren't even the building these rooms are going to be in since they are a sample, or maybe I am wrong.

Am I also wrong to assume that standard view rooms will most likely face the pool area, with no chance of parking lot views based on the building the new rooms are in?

If thats the case standard rooms should be fine imo

The new resort studios are all in Big Pine Key. The Touring Plans room finder for Big Pine Key can show you the locations of the different category rooms. These views should still be accurate for the new resort studios. The lagoon views from Big Pine are very nice in their own right, especially in the evening looking toward the Polynesian. Private too since there is no walkway on that side of the building.

Yeah I am just pretty positive by the time I go, the beautiful view towards the Poly will be the beautiful view of the construction ( destruction in more ways than one ;] ) of the poly

There will undoubtedly be some construction in view, but it will be in the area tucked behind the wedding pavilion. Not exactly hidden, but hopefully the vast majority of the nice view of the Poly will still be there.

This helps a lot. Thank you. Sad to see what a big building will do to that beautiful sight line

There will be no parking lot views from Big Pine Key. The "worst" standard view rooms will overlook the back of the Courtyard Pool Bar and some of the staircase of the neighboring building, Boca Chica.

So basically, standard view would be just fine for some nice views. Got it

Looking at the photos from the lake view of Big Pine Key. I see those trees in many of the photos that somewhat block the view of the lake. I wonder if they might cut them down. Doubt it

I am also a little concerned because I am going to book for next year for DVC. I have never been to GF, but what if they announce they are redoing the lobby and all the rooms etc. I would be so disappointed. Sure, the villa building would be open but thats not my main draw. Sigh. Decisions

A poster noticed some lake view trees have been removed during the roofing updates:

It's always a hard decision! Are you booking on DVC points? Do you have enough to hold onto 2 resorts until 31 days out? Or if you're staying on cash can you make 2 room only deposits and decide closer to your trip?
