Resort Thread Disney's GRAND FLORIDIAN Resort & Spa + Construction Updates!! **LOBBY REFURB STARTED 4/14**

So a closer look at the numbers, BPK’s 200 rooms make up around 23% of GF’s hotel room inventory, leaving the resort with 667’ish hotel rooms. Not as big of a slicing as what was seen at Poly and WL in recent years, but not an insignificant number either.

Still not happy about it. It’s hard to get a room at poly now.Next we won’t be able to at GF😢

Thanks for taking the time to do that. I was too lazy lol.

It seems like pictures taken in landscape position are right side up when posted. :)
Do you mean the "pano" mode? I have an older version of iPhone...is landscape an option on the newer ones? My DD17 has the newest version of course since the kids always have to have the new ones lol. Her camera is better anyway so I'll try to take some with her phone!
Or maybe you just mean to turn the phone sideways when taking the picture lol??

My daughter and I are doing a single night's "pre-trip" stay at GF this June...we just plan to hang at the resort and maybe go to the Springs if we get bored, but what do you suggest for a resort stay? Especially in these times?

Trying to figure out logistics since I’m at 10 days to go and have never done a split stay before. What time do you think I should get my bags down to Bell Services to have them moved to YC? I plan to rope drop AK the day I switch resorts so would need to get to the bus stop early also.
It'll be my first split stay as well. I am not sure how early you can drop off your bags. I know you are doing AK rope drop on your switch day, but maybe you could come back to the resort before check-out to make arrangements for your luggage. Not ideal, I know. But, maybe some pool time?

Why oh Why does DVC have to keep taking away from the hotels? Build a new building that doesn't impede hotel guests, fine. Knock yourself out. Taking away hotel rooms, building units that impede the view and atmosphere of the hotel guests, please stop. Gosh, I just really do not like this news. Sigh.....:(

Pool, shop, mono rides, boat rides, walk to poly and explore or eat. Tambu @ Poly has spaced out seating, same with Enchanted Rose for a chance to get dressed up if interested. Although its not required it just can be fun when you not in a rush.

yeah, these moves by Disney make it difficult for those of us who book just regular ole resort rooms.

Hi. We are coming end of Aug of 2022 and we keep flipping between Contemporary, Polynesian and Grand Floridian. My DD actually really loves GF from our research. But I just saw the announcement of expansion for DVC members. What I'm wondering is should we avoid this hotel then? I'm concerned of potential construction.

You can drop them off as early as you want - Bell Services is open 24 hours. I’d bring them down myself on the way to the bus stop. Be sure to check out completely from GF (at the desk) so that your checkin to YC can process seamlessly.

What kinds of rooms are there? I saw reference on another thread to 1BR suites, a few theme park view, etc. Do many of the rooms connect to their neighbor? TIA, I’m just wondering what footprint DVC is starting with.

I would not be concerned about the DVC construction at GF. It would be confined to the Big Pine Key building only. They wouldn't be housing guests there while renovating rooms to DVC. The only concern would be those rooms being taken out of hotel room inventory may mean lower room discounts/less room availability.

Yay! 10 Days!! I'm down to 9 because we're staying at Dolphin one night (arrival night) before checking into GF. We don't have many flight options from here. Time should go really fast now so I"m doing same as you...figuring out logistics of everything! We've done lots of split stays and even some triple splits, and every time we plan to have our bags transferred initially, we end up just taking them ourselves...so I agree with @trishadono. But we never spend a long time at AK. I would think you'd be done by lunch time if you rope drop, but who knows with this new world of no fast passes and supposedly increasing capacity! Since it's a solo trip for you this time, it would be pretty easy to stick the few things you need into a park bag like a bathing suit and flip flops just in case you make it to your resort before your bags do. For more people, that won't really fit in a park bag lol. If you have dinner plans that night and need to shower and change, that might not work. I have heard some stories of people not getting their bags until more like 6pm so it depends on what you have going on I guess. Of course, all of this was pre-pandemic so who knows how long bags take now? Sorry if I'm rambling...need more coffee!

I love AK to death and it’s never been a half day park to me...I enjoy walking the animal trails and taking in all the imagineering details. I thought about taking the bus back to GF and then a Lyft to bring my stuff to YC but I do want to spend my rest time actually resting lol. Knowing me I will probably just see how I feel when I’m down there.

The Dolphin is my old stomping grounds, my family stayed there all the time when I was a kid. It looks so nice after the big refurb, I was booked there at one point last summer before I had to cancel. :( But I actually booked a spa appt there on my rest day at YC, since I couldn’t get a cabana at SAB and the YC spa and Senses are still closed. I totally forgot about Mandara (my mom has never been a spa person, I came to that on my own) and checked and they’re available. I needed some kind of treat while I'm at Crescent Lake!

I do hope Senses reopens at GF for our October trip, when we will be at Poly again. We absolutely adored our day there a couple of years ago. The leg and foot massage was heavenly after days walking around MK. That turned us into spoiled spa junkies and now we need it on longer trips.

Just a thought....since you are traveling solo this trip and I assume you are a morning person?? Why not pack up the night before except for morning essentials. Get up a little extra early, get ready for your AK day, then take a lyft over to YC to drop your bags and then take bus to AK from YC? When you are tuckered out from your AK day, you can return to YC knowing your bags are there. If room isn't ready, just retrieve your pool essentials from your bags and relax at SAB until you get the room ready text.

Personally, I would be worried all day about "when" my bags would arrive at YC. What if you had an emergency and needed to retrieve something from your bags and they were in transport and unavailable? Also, taking care of it first thing in the morning means the rest of your day you are mentally now at YC and not in flux. KWIM??

Hi

i was thinking of staying here a few nights next year in May as part of a split day

was Looking at a lagoon viewroom but when I look in the uk website it’s coming up £616 a night which is about $874 dollars a night

I am just wondering do u think this is the going rate due to it been the 50th or should I wait and mybe get a offer later down the line

if u wish to share what u normally pay a night there it would be good to no to

it just seems an awful lot and don’t want to be ripped off if I can get it cheaper

The rack rates in USD for next May are below, FWIW. If we’re all having to pay rack in May, we’ve got bigger problems! I would bank of discounts eventually being released - 50th hysteria isn’t enough to fill everything with no discounts, one would think.
