Disney's Give a Day Get a Day

I also find something wrong with it. Disney may be an American company, but it has always promoted global thinking and it has parks in three other countries. I think the concept of the promotion is great, but to have it only be in America, Canada and Puerto Rico is a little sad... The other poster is right, Disney has fans in many countries all over the world. I see that as a Canadian (or if I lived in Puerto Rico) I can participate, but not anywhere else... That's going to leave a lot of people out of this years promotion.

*edited to add* I'm still going to participate, seeing as I'm able to do so, but I still feel badly for all the other fans who aren't able to. I don't know how it could be done, but there must be a way to include more countries...

I did not look at the websites for the other parks in the other countries - maybe they are doing it there? :confused3

They don't usually do the same promotions as the US parks. Tokyo and Paris Disneylands are not owned by the Walt Disney Co. (I'm sure I worded that incorrectly and some kind DISer will explain what I mean :upsidedow)

There's actually a pretty interesting thread about this over on the Theme Parks Board, and by interesting I mean Dis Board interesting - it starts with a few simple comments about the new promotion, followed by a few typical questions, then people start giving their opinions about it, followed by other people giving their opinions about the first people's opinions, followed by heated discussion and assumptions, and finally degenerating into name calling and mud slinging - everything that a good Dis Board thread should have. :thumbsup2

:lmao: I was just reading a similar thread on the budget board only it hasn't gotten too bad yet. Someone there also mentioned that it wasn't offered in other countries yet but also stated she was happy some people would benefit from it even if it didn't apply to her - nice attitude :thumbsup2

The monetary value of a one-day ticket is something like eighty bucks. Also, if they are like the 'birthday' tickets, they should be able to be used toward the purchase of multi-day or annual passes.
These are the only options
If I have a valid multi-day ticket or Annual Pass or Passport , is there anything else that I can receive?

Guests who present a valid multi-day ticket or Annual Pass or Passport may choose from one of the following three options instead of receiving the free 1-day, 1-park ticket:

◦Disney's Special FASTPASS® cards for certain attractions for you and up to 5 additional members of your party.†
◦A collectible Ear Hat figurine with exclusive trading pins‡
◦Donate your free ticket to a non-profit organization designated by Disney Parks

It says it goes until all the tickets are distributed.
I guess that means, they've got a maximum number that they are going to issue with this promotion? I wonder what that number is?

I saw it - and I was so disgusted with how people were acting I posted a "why can't we all just get along" comment, which I'm sure I will get pounced on for.

I'm just irked by this sort of behavior; I'm not a Pollyana and think that everything with Disney discussions should be sweetness and light, but come on people! Act like adults!

Those are the only option as to what is received. However, a person who has a one-day pass generally has a few options as to what to do with it.

It's an American company that is giving tickets to American families that are volunteering to help American communities. Not sure how you can find something wrong with this.
Again, I think it is a good idea overall. I guess I think if you market yourself heavily to the international community (as Disney does) and then make a year long promotion (which has up to now for well over a decadea always applied to everyone--whether it be simply a 25th birthday or a giveaway) and suddenly make it only for citizens of your own (and one neighboring) country it is somewhat alienating of the international customer base on not really in the Disney spirit. Again it affects me not at all as I am not going to the parks next year, but I feel for international fans as well as American families residing abroad (many because one or more memebers of the family are in the US millitary--you must have a US or Canadian residence to participate--not be a US or Cancadian citizen) who would like to participate and are excluded.

I also stated somethign similar when I started my post with "I think it is a really neat idea overall and I am glad to see it." I think anything which encourages more people to get out there and give of themselves is a good thing:goodvibes

I think it's a great promo, it will be nice to get a little something for volunteering since I spend more hours volunteering than I do at a "real" paying job. I wonder if Disney will have another promo to go along with this for people in other countries.

It's possible that they are targeting it to US residents because that is where they have seen the biggest dropoff recently. Also, it's possible that they believe that targeting this group will have the biggest payback. Finally, it's possible that dealing with regulations and organizations in many other countries simply was to onerous.

Personally I think it is the latter item. I can certainly understand that it would be a nightmare. I imagine that even with something as simple as this year's birthday promotion WDW probably had at least one person every single day upset that they could not get their child in free without a birth certificate or some other thing (maybe wanting to celebrate with the free day on a day not your actual birthday), and the volunteering for a ticket thing would be MUCH harder to verify and cope with without using already established agencies as they are doing. I guess to me (just me, just an opinion) the promotion is a great idea in theory, but since it cannot be made to work for all it should not be the major promotion for the year (I think it is a bad idea from a marketing standpoint to leave out so many customers). I think it would make much more sense as a nice side promotion to whatever the BIG push for the year would then end up being (something which applies to all). Obviously what I think is not going to change a thing about this (or much of anything else at WDW:lmao:) and I do hope this gets people who do not otherwise volunteer to get out there and help and (hopefully) realize there are better rewards for giving of yourself than a theme park entry and keep volunteering long after the promotion ends. That would be a wonderful thing no matter who gets to be included or not.

I think this is a great promotion and we will definitely be doing this one..

Im currently thinking about taking DD11 to Universal for 4 or 5 days and may top it off with a few days at WDW.. We already have 1 day each on our non expiration tickets so this will give us the 2nd day for free! :woohoo: This just might work..
