Disney's FORT WILDERNESS CABINS & CAMPGROUNDS Thread

Oops I didn't know that! So if there are EMH will the boat to MK run 30mins before that?

We have an 8:40am CRT ressie on an EMH day (8am). Will the boat start running at 7:30?

EDIT: I reread your post and that is exactly what you said lol thanks!

I believe the boat from FW to MK starts running 30 minutes prior to MK opening (including EM hours), so unless you have EMH, you are out of luck on going directly to MK by boat from FW

Based on the link below, I would say yes. In the pictures on the link, the blue hull is a launch and the white/yellow hull is a cruiser.

I am trying to figure out our transportation overall for that first day, 12/18, and would love input-

We are driving and staying at an offsite hotel 12/17 (we won't get in til 12am and just want to rest our heads for a few hours). We have military tickets that will need to be activated at MK and a CRT ressie at 8:40am.

Which should we do...
1. Drive from offsite hotel to FW at 7am to check in and store our luggage, then boat to MK at 7:30am.

2. Drive from offsite hotel to TTC at MK and park there (with luggage in our car), don't check in at FW til our afternoon break.

We just switched our stay from BC to WL for 12-23--1-1-15....so excited! Hi Everyone!

Hi All,
My wife and I will be renting a golf cart one night in early December to ride around the resort to see all the Christmas decorations at the camp sites. Could you guys recommend the best place on the resort to grab a coffee or hot chocolate before we being our tour around?! Thanks.

I think Trails End would be your best bet, pick up your golf cart in the front check in area, drive back to Trails End for your drinks then loop to check out the holiday decorations working your way back to the front. Not sure if the Meadows Trading post would have coffee and hot chocolate then or not. Have fun and enjoy.

Hi, thanks so much for this thread! We'll be at FW in a cabin from 12/1 - 12/6. Trying to decide whether or not to splurge for the golf cart. Does anyone know if the rental is by day, or for a 24 hour period?

It is a 1pm pick up and 11am drop off...same as the resort check in check out times.

Hi Everyone :wave2: Hope y'all are having a fabulous October!

We are thinking on a mk day to leave the park and go see the lights at the campground and then head back to mk to see the fireworks! this would be on the 22nd December, how long do you think the back and forth journey will take? We thought about a carriage/wagon/golf cart rental, would this be feasible given their time slots?

This depends on the time of day you are leaving and crowd level. Generally speaking it shouldn't take more than 30-45 minutes to ride the boat over to the Fort. But again, it depends on if you get lucky and catch a boat quickly or have to wait. The carriage/wagon ride would be a great option. Renting a golf cart is doable; however, you have to travel to the front of the Fort to pick it up, and the price is the same whether you have it 2hours or all day.

Heading back to FW Dec 4-8 for Mickey's Very Merry and an early Holiday celebration. Deciding what else to do. We are doing another day at the park and will probably do Animal Kingdom just because its been a while since we've been. We're also thinking about Hoop-de-Doo as well since I have never been before (I know I know). Now just have to wait. Which is always the hardest part.

:yay: for a Fort stay!!!!

Several Fort Friends have already commented on the HDDR, but I would say YES! We love it...have done it multiple times! Great fried chicken and strawberry shortcake!!!

What's the difference between preferred and premium campsites? Which loops include these? Thanks!

Hi there  Here's a link that might help! Think I'm going to add it to the first few pages of this thread.

Difference between preferred and premium campsites

When do campers start to decorate their sites for Christmas? We will be there Nov 12 - 19, which is probably early, but I was hoping there would be something holiday themed going on: parade, lights, etc.

I have a feeling that some will have their decorations up:thumbsup2 especially since Disney will be decorated by then.

I am thinking about booking a campsite for this Fall. Would we be able to sign up for a bounce back trip for a resort stay for next year during this trip? Or do you not receive the bounce back offer at Fort Wilderness campsites?

Thanks!

Yes, the Fort is like any other resort in that respect...they have BB offers, also:thumbsup2

You're the bestest ever;) Gonna add this to the beginning of the thread!

Howdy, my FW friend, Heather!! Love this thread!! And howdy y'all! :wave2: We are getting ready to take our 4th trip to the Cabins in 10 days - can't WAIT! :hyper:

Howdy :goodvibes  I'm jealous. Wish it were me heading back!!!! Hope y'all have a fabulous time!!!

Welcome!!! I'm probably not the person to ask about a golf cart because I always say YES!!!! :yay: Splurge and get one!!!!!! Rental is by day. Our kids absolutely love it. And, it makes life much, much easier when traveling around the resort...the Fort is huge!!

I love that pumpkin pic! I am having a great October...counting down til Midnight when I do my FP+ picks!

That picture was taken several years ago at the MNSSHP. Love this time of year at Disney. And :yay: for FP picks!!!! Always exciting to get those done. Makes the trip seem more complete:thumbsup2

If we have our own cars, about how long will it take us to drive to Hollywood Studios? Getting close to FP+ time and trying to figure out what time we need to leave the cabins to be at HS at 9 am when the park opens.

Hi Cathy :wave2:

It shouldn't take you any longer than 10 or 15 minutes tops to drive. Make sure you factor in some time for walking from the DHS parking lot to the actual park...it can take a while depending on where you end up. They usually open the park before 9 and let the crowds gather on the main street. If you're trying to make Rope Drop, you might want to be in line by at least 8:30ish. It gets fairly crowded.

Have fun planning!!:goodvibes

This morning, I snagged a reservation for Hoop Dee Doo for next Wednesday! :cool1: The site says the show lasts 2 hours. Is that accurate? It will be our first time visiting the Fort and am curious as to how to get to Pioneer Hall. I read something about an internal shuttle...
Also, we will have a car but with the alcohol factor, it might be better to get there another way. If I wanted to toy with other means of transportation (staying at ASMu), would the best way be to take the bus to AK then jump the bus to Ft Wilderness then taxi back home? We are taking advantage of TiW with the last show and not sure if any park buses will still be running... Thanks!

:dance3: That is so exciting!!! We love Hoop Dee Doo, and can't wait to go again!!! I would say 2 hours is every bit of accurate.

I would recommend taking the bus from ASMu to MK, then the boat to Fort Wilderness. I would also do the same to return. You can also do bus to MK, walk to Contemp, boat to Fort Wilderness, but I believe the first option is easier and possibly quicker. When you get off the boat at Fort Wilderness, you will walk up the dock, and just through the trees, you will see Pioneer Hall on the right. I can't be missed!!

We should get out around 10:30. MK closes at 10 that night. Will they still let me on the boat to get back to MK?

I am so excited! Original plan was to leave home around 11pm and drive 8 hours to Disney while attempting to sleep and my insomniac friend would be the driver, then dropping luggage at FW and heading straight into MK. Luckily we are now able to leave earlier so we decided to check in the night before! We still won't get in until late at night but it will be so good to check in, get everything set out in the morning, and sleep in the Cabins.

I'm not sure about that. They are going to be coming to drop off guests from mk, so I wouldn't see a reason why you couldn't go to the MK:/
