Disney's FORT WILDERNESS CABINS & CAMPGROUNDS Thread

We were on the same loop in July in 2647. We also had no issues with cleanliness or upkeep. I also noted the first cabins on the left when entering the loop were in the process of having their decks replaced. I am sure they were working on the inside while the cabins were out of service. So it seems they are continually working on them to keep them looking good.

We noticed the new decks. We had engineering come in one day when my wife was there and they cleaned the airvents.

We had great service there also. Came home one night to find our bathroom door locked, called the front desk (I know it goes to a call center) and they came within 10 minutes to open the door. Had dinner as a party of 10 at Trails End, food was ok service was great. We had 3 checks and they added 18% gratuity as we were a party of 10. My brother did not notice and added additional gratuity to his check. The waiter chased him down outside the restaurant to inform him that the tip was included. My brother said that since you came out to tell us, you deserve to keep it.

Got back yesterday from a week at the cabins. We had a great time. No issues with the cleanliness of the cabins and we enjoyed the quiet. We feel that you do need a golf cart.
We drove everywhere and it was great parking the car right outside your door. We would consider staying there again, but it is going to be a few years before we go back and we did really want to stay at the Poly but did not due to construction.

Glad you all had a great time and the service was so good. I think I'll have to add another golf cart day to my reservation. Did you drive to AK? Our first morning we plan to hit that park & then come back to get our golf cart. I wasn't going to drive to any of the parks but I think I will AK since we won't be there all day. We love the boats and monorail but I kind of want to avoid the buses as much as possible. If I like driving to AK, then I will drive to HS/Epcot too.

Kudos to Disney and your brother! :thumbsup2

We drove to all the parks, both water parks, etc. We even drove to the TTC to take the monorail one morning. I am assuming that this was so easy due to the low crowds.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking of driving to TTC also to take the monorail. We go in about 2 weeks so hopefully those crowds will stay on the low side. I do think we'll take the boat to MK so that's another reason to have that golf cart.

To get to the TTC, take the small ferry to the CR, then take the monorail to the Epcot monorail -- really fast and a nice way to start the morning.

I guess I should update my first critique. Was the only thing good about the cabin the size? No. It was very quiet and there is so much to do at the campground. Disney could not help the wetness factor. That's just rainy Florida. I do with they would update the beds. Again, they were hard. We had no issue with the housekeeping. Everything was clean and worked well. In fact, I was worried about the hot water, since there were 4 of us showering. It was never an issue. We had plenty of hot water. We only rented a golf cart for the first day. I knew we would be out and about too much to warrant the cost. I wish we could have afforded one for the whole time. It wasn't really worth it to us to get on a bus to go to the pool. I do wish they had a QS restaurant and several places to fill up the mugs. Someplace that I didn't have to get on a bus for. We did have them wash our towels. We went swimming the first day and left them out to dry. Well.....it rained and rained and rained for the next 2 days. They never dried out and got gross from being outside. The way our days were planned, I did not have time to go do laundry and wait for it to be done. So we had them do it. Live and learn. It cost us a whopping $42 to have 4 towels washed. Oops. Won't make that mistake again.

While I liked having the peace and quiet, I did miss a little of the Disney "magic". You really didn't feel like you were at Disney at the end of the day. Again, that was good and bad.

Overall, we had a fantastic vacation and I can't wait to do it again. Hopefully we will be back to the world in 2016.

Hey all!

Well, instead of waiting till next year to go, we're heading to FW in Nov (Free Dining)! I do have a few questions though...

We can already do online check-in, what exactly does that entail and does that mean we skip checking in at guest services? Being our first time at FW, I want to get all the fliers and ask questions...be nosey.

Also if we do online check-in, can we request a certain loop? We're staying in the cabins.

Since we're arriving on Veterans Day the 11th, we figured we'd hang out at FW as the crowds will probably be higher that day. Seeing as how I'll be driving 14hrs straight, I thought walking to trail to WL would be a nice way to stretch our legs. Do you think WL will have any decorations up by then, and how is their counter service?

Hi Everyone!

Sorry to hear about the negative experiences. :( That can make for a bad vacation when you're paying Disney prices. Hopefully the issues were reported so Disney has the chance to fix the problems.

Out of the 3 visits to FW, all were perfect except for the second. There were a couple of things that weren't up to par in the cabin - bathroom wasn't exceptionally clean and there were cobwebs in 2 of the windows. So...the first thing I did was call housekeeping and politely report the problems. Within the hour, they were there and had our cabin was spotless! The rest of the trip, they did a great job cleaning.

Transportation within the park can be lengthy without a golf cart...that's for sure. I guess we've been very fortunate with buses...never had an issue. In fact, the bus service to DTD was far better (for us) than at the other resorts we've tried. Because it's FL, the boats can certainly put a kink into plans especially if there is lightening or heavy rain.

MagicalEars...you can request a loop when you do online check-in. Look at the map at the beginning of the thread and maybe it will give you an idea of where you would like to be. You will still have to check-in up front, but when you get there, all of your paper work should be completed and ready to go.

Drummerdad....can't believe that waiter chased y'all down! How nice was that?! :thumbsup2

KaTinkerbell...you'll be glad to have that golf cart:thumbsup2 I was just checking out the Crowd Calendar for the next couple of weeks, and it's looking good! 3s, 4s, 5s, and 6s.

Question- This may have been addressed earlier in the thread but I haven't read the whole thing. Planning on going to MNSSHP Oct.3 and staying at AoA. Was wondering if we could go to campground and look around at the campsites Halloween decor (if they have any). If so how do we do it? I mean where exactly is the campsites in proximity to the Trails Inn restaurant? Do you have to have reservations at the restaurant? Are there picnic tables that we could maybe go to the counter service? Thank you in advance.

As our first stay at the FW cabins approaches, I find myself with some questions that I hope you all can help me with.

First, is there enough room under the bed and bunks in the bedroom to store suitcases? And along those lines, do you have any tips or tricks as to how best to utilize the limited storage in the cabin.

Second, and I know this one is subject to opinion, which cabin loop is your favorite and why?

Third, I know there's a laundry room at the pool near the cabins but are there other laundry rooms available on the property as well?

TIA!!

We stay at the cabins every year...in fact we will be there in 36 days. No there is no room to store suitcases under the bed. We have a party of 6. I put a chair in the hallway and out a suitcase on it flat, at the end of the bed I line pup I think 2 suitcases up against the wall, which is in front if the 2nd door. Which we don't use so that's ok with us. I also put a suitcase on top of the shelf that is to the left of the closet in the back bedroom. Before when my youngest was 1 now 3, I put the pack and play in the closet for him to sleep in. Now he sleeps in a bed and I put a suitcase and dirty clothes in there.

We love loop 2600. Specifically 2601... We request the same loop and cabin every year. We usually get it or one right next door to our requested one. We like that loop, because it is close to the smaller pool and also has a laundry station. And the bus stop is right there too, however we rent a golf cart.

Hope this helps...if you have anymore questions ask away. You'll love the cabins.

OK, I will :hyper:

We have never stayed at the cabins before —*last time was AKL and we loved it. We are trying the cabins this time for a change and plan on renting a golf cart. How bad are the travel times if you have a cart to the other parks?

We've camped a lot so the idea of a cabin stay is nothing novel for us. We've also been to the campfire at FW several times and always enjoyed that. I think the main reason we are trying this is for the room size and the peacefulness of it. (Also, AKL was unavailable for our dates when we booked -- it's actually available now and I've thought about switching over.)

Will we really love the cabins? :)

Just checking on some feedback. I'm looking ahead at the 10 day weather forecast and all I see is rain. Is it just afternoon storms or is it raining all day. Is it sloppy muddy at the cabins? Should I prepare for rain boots. I have ponchos but want to make sure that will be enough. We are renting a golf cart, does most of the paths to and from cabins stay paved?

With a golf cart the travel time to the parks is not bad at all. You can take the golf cart and park it in the designated area for carts, at the marina. There is a boat that goes to the MK and another that goes to CR and WL. It is a quick ride to either. When we go to Epcot or DHS, we take the boat to the CR and get on the monorail. Next stop is the TTC. Get off that monorail and walk to the EPCOT monorail -- if it hasn't just left, it will be very easy turn around. Otherwise you might have to wait 10 minutes for another. Time once the Epcot monorail leaves until it flies in over future world -- 8 minutes.

I can't answer about the all day or just afternoon for the showers. However, with a golf cart, the only time you are not on paved roadways is when it is parked at one of the transportation areas (in front for buses and marina in back for the boats). Those parking lots are gravel, so you may just need to avoid some puddles. You drive the golf carts on the regular roads, and each of the cabins have a paved driveway, with a paved sidewalk leading to the deck stairs.

I don't believe the carts from Disney have rain covers, but the golf cart we rented from another source did. This was fantastic, as we always put them down when we went to the park for the day. They kept the seats fairly dry. We also had a towel with us to dry the seats off if we needed to.

I don't remember having rain covers on ours (we rented from Disney) and when it rained, the roof did less than steller job at keepng water off the seats -- we did the same thing with the towels too.
