Disney's FORT WILDERNESS CABINS & CAMPGROUNDS Thread

Is it time to come home???!!! Say it ain't so!!! :upsidedow And tell your wife Happy Birthday!!!! Hope it was a fabulous day for her!

Sounds like y'all have had a wonderful trip and a nice reprieve from the cold. Safe travels on your journey home. Look forward to lots of details...and maybe some pics ;)

We are home after a magical week. Just starting to go through pictures now, I'll put together a trip report in a couple of days.

Here is one of my favorite pics, this was taken our first night there waiting for the Electrical Parade.

We will be staying at the Fort for the first time right after Thanksgiving. (Nov 30 - December 7) - campsite. Hoping crowds are low. :confused3
We can't wait. Just DH and I. We are going on a vacation without kids for the first time EVER !!!:banana::dance3:

Enjoy!! Sounds wonderful. We stayed at FW in Jan. and want to return just the two of us as well. We've always had others with us on our visits.

We will be Staying at The Fort for the first time June 4-7 ( doing a split stay with contemporary )
One question: what is the best way to get to HS for an early ADR? ( 8am) HS doesn't open till 9 that day.

Does anyone, besides me, sometimes feel like stomping their feet and throwing a fit worthy of a 2 year old because they want to go to Disney? I know I shouldn't wish the summer away, especially since we had such a crappy never ending (it's snowing right now) winter. But I don't think September is ever going to get here. LOL. I can't wait to be there.

Stomp away :teeth:  I only have two months but it feels like an eternity. Wishin' I was there NOW!

Looking forward to that TR:thumbsup2 Glad y'all made it home safely. Love the hats, too!! Looks like you had excellent seats for the parade.

I'm guessing your weather is better...no more snow, right??!

Good for you!!! My DH and I like to get away from time to time without the kids, also. We've done Disney without them, too. While we did miss them of course, it was nice to do some adult stuff ::yes:: The week you're going should be great!! My parents went last year at that time, and they said it was fabulous!!! Parks were pretty much empty.

 for the Fort and the CR (an awesome resort as well) We'll be at FW at the same time :teeth: We're doing a split, also...FW/WL.

The buses usually run an hour prior to park openings. (I think I'm right :confused3...someone correct me if I'm wrong) Are you driving to WDW? If you have a car, I would probably just drive over to HS.

Nope, not driving... Don't think I can last in a car with my 1/3/5 year old asking every 5 minutes if we are at DW ....
Can't wait for our trip. We were originally booked in WL CL but had to make a few changes when the TPV room opened up at CR.

Hi all! Im planning a first time trip to disney on a budget for next spring and im thinking of booking a camp site to save money. I figure ill be able to save over other resorts, plus i can make breakfast before we hit the park in the mornings. I do not want to get a golf cart, so im trying to find out how difficult it is to get around. We are going to spend the majority of the time in the parks aside from sleep and breakfast, but i dont want to have to walk forever after a long day in the parks. Also, i saw somewhere that you cant drive on property. Is it terribly inconvenient to get around?

No snow :), just a lot of rain since we got back.

TR is coming, I've been going through and organizing photos this week, I'll start it either tonight or tomorrow. That pic was taken from the parade FP+ area, it was nice being able to walk up 10 min. before the 9:00 parade and still get a spot like that. FP+ wasn't needed when we did the 11:00 parade on our 2nd MK day, we were able to get seats right on the hub near the walkway to Tomorrow Land right at the start of Celebrate the Magic.

We just got back from our first trip to the Fort and that was one of my big worries but we found the Disney transportation very easy to get around, we didn't have a golf cart and our truck never moved for the entire week we were there. We used a combination of buses, boats and monorails to get to our destinations, the CMs are very helpful with helping you figure out the best way to get to your destination. There is quite a bit of switching since you have to take the fort buses to the park buses/boats, but other than the the one morning where something got screwed up and we had to wait for over an hour at the Polynesian after our 'Ohana breakfast for a bus to Hollywood studios, we never waited more than 10 minutes for a bus, monorail or boat.

Try and take some time to enjoy what the Fort has to offer, we really enjoyed some of the evening activities like the Chip and Dale sing along and outside movie at the Meadows and watching the Electrical Boat Parade and MK Fireworks from the Settlement beach.

:rotfl: I totally get that! We only have a 4 1/2 hour drive, and I hear that phrase excessively! :upsidedow

You're kidding?! But totally get that, too. We're doing WL CL this trip. I LOVE CR, but got outvoted by the family ;) My parents usually go with us, and my dad and I were the only ones who voted for CR. I originally booked BWV, and DH said no...and since he's paying...

 for FW!!! An excellent choice :thumbsup2 Jeepin Dad answered your question perfectly ::yes:: I will piggyback on something he said...there are tons of fun activities within the resort. If you have time, take a day or evening and enjoy them. We've been to the Fort several times - usually as a split stay - and usually don't go to the parks at all. We just hang out and relax. Happy planning!!! :goodvibes

:woohoo: Can't wait to read!!! No pressure or anything;) I haven't even thought about doing an 11pm parade. That's a great idea! Now that the kids are older, we can stay late! ;)

(repost from general resort forum)

I've heard mixed things about transportation from the cabins at Ft Wilderness. If you can give me any input based on our family info, that would be great. If you include your own experiences for comparison that can help as well.

We have stayed at POFQ, CSR & CBR so far. We did not enjoy CBR as much due to the # of stops within CBR. POFQ has been our favorite and we've stay there twice. It always felt like the TOTAL trip time to the resorts (from leaving our room to arriving at park) was the shortest compared to CSR & especially CBR.

Our trip will have me, DH, and our 1 yo, 4 yo, 6 yo, and 9 yo. We will have two strollers. We would NOT be renting a golf cart (partially due to cost and partially due to size of our family + strollers).

We will be at the parks for 9 days. 4 of those days will be MK, 2 EP, 2 AK, and 1 HS. We also visit DTD several times during our trip. We do come back EVERY day for afternoon rests.

Based on our history and what parks we are visiting, how will our TOTAL transportation time compare with the moderates given that we'll need to take the internal bus to either another bus or the boat?

Thanks for any input! This is our first trip that we've outgrown the 1 standard room at the mods...so we're trying to figure out our best (affordable) option. (We still fit into a POR AB room...but for 10 nights that doesn't sound very enjoyable).

I am so glad that I have found this thread! I am planning a trip to WDW for June 2015. My plan is to get 3 cabins, 1 for my husband and I, 1 for my daughter and her husband and 2 children and 1 for my son and wife and 2 children. I know that two cabins would work, but each of my children have a toddler and I am thinking it will be much easier for them to get the little ones to sleep if the cabin isn't full of other people.

One of my questions is this, if I rent a golf cart or two, and we drive them to catch the bus to the other parks, or to the marina to catch the boat to the Magic Kingdom, is there parking for the golf carts at the bus stops? And how do you know which cart is yours if there are a ton of carts parked there? Are they marked somehow with your cabin number or name?

Okay, that is the first of many questions to come, lol. This will be our first trip ever to any Disney property. It has been my dream forever, and will probably be a once in a lifetime trip for me, but I am hoping that my children and their children have the opportunity to make it more than just this once.

Thanks in advance for your help....

Cathy

Hi Cathy
You'll have a great time at the cabins and in fort wilderness.
To answer your first question , all the disney golf cats are numbered so you won't haven't any problem finding it and yes ,there's lots of parking places for carts at the bus stops and boat launching areas.

We are thinking about the cabins for a Nov '15 trip but I have a question about the beds.

The Disney website says that there's 2 double beds and a bunkbed but the floor plan at the beginning of the thread only shows 1 double and a pullout. Is the 2nd double listed on the disney site really the pullout? I'm not sure how keen I am about sleeping on a pullout for 7 nights

There is a double bed with two bunks in the back bedroom area and then a double sized Murphy bed in the living room. At first I thought the couch pulled out but it's actual a pull- down bed ! Pretty cool !

oh ok, cool. We are going with my mom and step dad so I know they aren't going to want to sleep on a sofa bed (which is what really knocks AOA out for us) and I don't want a bar in the back every night for a week+ either :)

we're trying to come up with alternatives if they ever start messing with free dining and going moderate and up. I really wanted to book the cabins last year but it's roughly 600ish more than 2 rooms at Pop so we saved the money last year.

thanks!

No problem! There is a very high possibility that FD will be offered this fall. My family of. 5 and my parents are staying in a cabin in November , so I'm really hoping for FD to help save on costs ! I love the cabins but they are pricey!

yeah we're planning on going when free dining is traditionally offered (2nd week of Nov) to try and hit FD and the Christmas party (we went during halloween party last year).

We're just nervous that FD will be phased out for value hotels so we're looking at finding the right moderate just in case
