BLT is now almost officially my "second home" - bought in today over the phone and just waiting on the paperwork!

I'm very excited about it all, and also a bit relieved that the whole research and decision-making process is over.:upsidedow

THANKS to everyone on the DVC boards who have answered my questions and such over the past few months! :goodvibes

I read on the DVCNews site that until Sept. 30 you can get an additional $2 off per point (in addition to current incentives) as an impromptu "year end sale". (Apparently, you have to ask your Guide for it, it is not a given.) Now I have a few questions ... hopefully you all can help me out.

1. Does anyone know if this applies to new purchasers or just to those adding on? UPDATE: I called and spoke with a new guide tonight and it does apply to new purchasers. According to him it only applies to those looking to purchase by phone and not in person at WDW.

2. This special would allow me $12 off pp instead of $10 off pp - from what I've read elsewhere this would be in the ballpark of what the DCL offers typically are, right? (In other words, this is likely just as good a deal as waiting until our cruise next summer to buy in - with the added bonus of knowing that the base price is still $120.) UPDATE: I would get a total of $12 off per point at BLT instead of the current incentive of $10 pp.

3. Originally, I was going to hold off buying into until at least the new year, partly to see what happens to the MFs at BLT and partly to avoid the 2010 MFs altogether. The savings from this special would cover the portion of the current MFs I would have to pay with money left over. So should I just bite the bullet now, or is it worthwhile to wait and see what the 2011 MFs are? UPDATE: I need to talk it over once more with the rest of the family, but I'm thinking now is probably as good a time as any.

4. (And this may be the tricky one.) How exactly (ie who do I contact) to request a new guide? I'm really not comfortable dealing with the one from my tour this summer since, as I've posted before, he provided me with some inaccurate information about getting 2010 points and stuck to his story even after multiple attempts at clarification on my part. UPDATE: This was easier than I expected ... no need to go into details.

ETA I'm looking at an August UY, so the "extended banking window for 2009 points" is not a factor in purchasing now.

Hi, I can't help but what is the extended banking window of 2009 points.

Thanks

I am not sure what happened with your guide, but you can just call DVC and tell them you would like a new guide and they should be able to assign a new one to you. They may ask why, I would keep it generic.....then you can ask your new guide these questions.

Hi, I can't help but what is the extended banking window of 2009 points.

Thanks
This is a reference to being able to bank "new purchase" points even if you are beyond your normal banking window. Our add-on in 2007 is a great example of taking this to the extreme: we purchased an add-on on the final day of the DVC Fiscal Year (9/30/07) for our OCT UY. DVC was able to bank 100% the 2006 points effective 9/30 and we got our 2007 points the very next day. We also received other great incentives as we were buying during their heightened Sept sales drive and from Disneyland Resort: matching developer points (in addition to the 2006 and 2007 points), APs for either DLR or WDW, cash incentives, pins, hats and the tote bag.

So you're saying just call the toll free DVC number and ask? If so, sounds easy enough.

To make a long story short, my guide insisted that, since we were already in August, if I bought an August UY at BLT, then I would not get any points until August 2011. (As in, no 2010 points.) He did indicate that with a September or later UY, I would get 2009 and 2010 points. :confused3

To make things even more confusing, he had previously commented that it seemed like August was the best possible UY for our current and projected travel habits ... (a conclusion I had already come to myself based on my research.) So if he was actually using the no points til 2011 as some wacky sales tactic to get me to buy a different UY, it backfired on him.

All that said, does anyone know if this sale applies to first-timers? (I would rather not request a new guide, find out it doesn't, and then say "oh sorry, not buying in just yet then".)

Wow ... that really did work out in your favour! Talk about buying at the right time. :)

I'd ask for a manager and request a change of guide through them. They should ask why, and if they do, I'd be completely candid with them.

If DVC has a guide who doesn't know what they're doing, they need to know that so they can provide training. If they've got a guide who is lying to prospective customers, losing sales, and making the company look bad, they need to know that too.

We all have a stake in all aspects of DVC, and if one of their employees isn't up to your standards, I think it's in your own interests not to hide that from DVC for fear of hurting someone's feelings. They're timeshare salesmen...not your friends!

Can you even buy directly from DVC from where you live?

Or do you have to buy at a DVC sales venue in the U.S.?

The answer to those questions may solve your guide problem.

Thanks for your advice Jim ... I hadn't considered the possibility that my guide was new and/or needed more training. When I do call, I will be candid with the manager I speak to.

That said, my concern is how do I know I have a manager? A thread not so long ago here on the DIS indicated that sometimes when a person asks for a DVC manager/supervisor when calling the sales center, they might just get another regular salesrep playing the part and having a good laugh at the caller's expense.

Also, I live in one of the two Canadian provinces that allows direct buys from Disney - so I don't have to make my way to a US sales center.

Obviously another employee could pretend to be a manager and you'd never know the difference. I guess the only protection you have is to get the "manager's" name...and they could lie about that too.

However, if I had to worry about stuff like that, I wouldn't buy from them in the first place!

Yes, it was really remarkable experience -- but we now know that we are especially subject to add-ons during September. Dont'cha know that we'll be attending a D23 event at the Disneyland Hotel next weekend (Sept 24-25). We'll have to be extra careful to avoid those DVC kiosks! Avoiding will be so difficult to do ... as we enjoy pin trading and the DVC Kiosk CMs seem to know it! :rotfl2:

Link to the "same day of purchase" details of the 9/30/07 add-on: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=21078112&postcount=22

Best wishes with your decision!

Good point ... and to be honest, it's not something I'm overly concerned about; it's more a case of I want to do this the right way and not create a hassle for myself.

Thanks for the good wishes ... it's kind of ironic that I've decided to buy-in, I just can't make up my mind of WHEN within the next 11 months or so to actually do it!

Enjoy your D23 / DL experience. I hope you manage to resist the addonitis bug! Well, unless your stumble across another great scenario and you want to go for it, that is!:goodvibes

If you bought with an Aug UY you would have your 2010 points immediately (current year points) to use. In Aug 2011 you would get your 2011 points. I am not sure what your guide was saying but I am sure he or she was trying to push the 2009 points as an extra bonus, I think it really helps sales when people "think" they are getting a full year of extra points! Good luck in you decision.

What you said at the beginning of your post is exactly what I was expecting to hear on my tour. I purposely never even mentioned "2009 points" because I knew they did not apply for my situation.

Oh well. It might all be for the better if this new "special" works out.

To answer one of your other questions, I do not think it is necessary to wait and see what the Mf's are for next year. To me, a 5 or 10 cent difference is not enough to sway me either way. Good luck.

I just talked to my Guide because hubby and I were thinking of adding on. The price he gave me on 125 points for AKV was $120 base minus $12.00 (which included the extra $2.00 off).

DVCNEWS said the price is $120 base price less $15 promotional discount; 125+ points.

With the DVC prices I was expecting the AKV deal to be $17 off per point for 125+ points ($15 promo discount plus extra $2 off per point).

Anyone else call their guide to see what the AKV price would be? I would love to add on, but not sure if what my guide told me was correct.

When I spoke with my guide about AKV and VGC a few weeks ago the promotion was the same as was listed on DVC News. Maybe a call back and ask them to recheck the add-on price. The price you were given looks to be for the 100-124 pts so maybe they just looked at the wrong row.

I called again, and I was told the same thing... $12 off per point of 125 points and that includes the extra $2... OK so how is this a deal??? If you were told the DVCNEWS prices of $120 base price less $15 promotional discount; 125+ points, then the new discount stinks and it was a better deal last week

Maybe, just perhaps, you could consider this salve to your current add-on-itis. Just maybe it isn't the right time??

When my DH and I are presented with a 'hot deal' that doesn't impress us ... we thank the salesperson, turn around and breathe a sigh of relief. It wasn't our time.

When it is the right time -- you'll know it with deep, unavoidable certainty. Until then ... any chance you could just wait things out?
