"Disney's Electronic Ticket"?

On my last WDW trip, I noticed each park entrance had a turnstile that said "Cast Member Entrance and Disney's Electronic Ticket". And, I noticed that both Guests and CMs were using the entrance (at least it appeared that way), and at least from afar, the turnstile appeared to be the same.

What exactly distinguishes "Disney's Electronic Ticket" from the tickets / passes / room keys all of us Guests seem to get? Or is there no difference? Is "Disney's Electronic Ticket" some kind of vaporware? :rotfl:

We saw people using it last trip with tickets that looked like they had been printed off the Internet - like airline boarding passes you print yourself.

I don't know if this is what it refers to but this is the entrance we use when we use our maingate to let people in. They scan our card and the machine prints out a park hopper for them. We also use it when we use our comp passes. They are printed off the computer and they work the same way, the machine prints out an actual ticket to be used.

I didn't realize you could print your Disney admission ticket from the Internet, but, if you could, then that ticket would not fit in the FASTPASS machines.

There would have to be somewhere (turnstile for electronic tickets?) where the bar code on your printout is scanned and a mag-stripe card the size of (and with the rigidity of) a regular Disney ticket is issued.

Most tickets obtained at Disney, including will-calls, are printed on the spot as opposed to taken out of a rack. A ticket printer at a turnstile (not counting a control panel or keypad) would be no different from a ticket printer inside a ticket booth.

I have never seen this done at WDW, but when we went to Disneyland in 2009, we got our tickets through "Disney's eTicket." To be frank, it was a mini-disaster. It said to wait and check your email soon. A couple emails we checked our email and nothing was there. We checked in 24 hours later and still nothing. We were getting a bit concerned. We checked again later and nothing. So, we called them and I asked if they had my email right and they did. I said it must have not gone through and they asked me to check my SPAM (I already did but I tried again) and then I asked if they could resend them because it appeared it did not go through. They said they couldn't do that, so I would have to pick up the tickets at Guest Services, so that is what we did. That night, we went home and, as usual, I checked my email and the tickets had literally just come in. So, if you use it, buy your tickets at least a week in advance.

I did receive instructions, though. Apparently, you would go up to a special turnstile where they would take your eticket, scan it, and administer you a "real" ticket. You would scan your finger and enter the park.

Once you enter the turnstiles, the CM gives you a regular ticket in exchance for the e ticket.

Anyone can use that entrance but if you don't have to it may slow you down as CMs who are using their Maingate to get guests in have to use it. Additionally then once they let the guest in those particular machines spit out a day ticket for the guest to use (pretty much looks like every other ticket) and it can be used for park hopping and FP machines.

The electronic ticket is the "ticket" CMs get over the internet that they can just give away (to friends or family - not for sale). They do not have to be with the guest when they use it. So for example my daughter had several and she was working one day and not really available to let in my niece and nephew so they took the tickets and went through that line. The ticket (whole piece of paper) is scanned and a real ticket spits out for the guest to use.
