Ok we have decided to try the CR wings..I had heard that you should ask for odd # rooms for castle view..is that only in the tower or does that apply to wings too? What should I ask for? I'd like to see Bay lake but be close to the tower building & walkway to mk...

We stayed in the North wing. Just ask for a room with a view of the fireworks. We had a great view. We were on the 2nd floor about 1/2 way down. We were also not more than 4-5 minutes from the food court & pool area.

Remember, no balaconies in the wings. If you want a patio, ask for a 1st floor room.

From mouseplanet.com. I thought the north was maybe going down for DVC eventually, but I could be wrong:

Contemporary Resort refurbishment news

We've heard from another insider about the refurbishment at the Contemporary Resort. It seems that there is indeed a plan in place to convert the South Garden Wing in the a Disney Vacation Club resort, but no one is certain until the first worker knocks down the first wall. However, construction delays are occurring because of a lack of labor due to continuing hurricane repairs in Central Florida. Renovations will continue through the rest of the resort (which is current expected to remain a regular hotel) with an overall completion date of June 2007 for the entire resort.

Our source was able to view one of the two showrooms already completed at the resort, and describes the room:

The rooms are done in beiges and browns, with a matching bedding and carpeting. There are two separate double sinks with a very modern feel to them. There is a 16-inch by 9-inch format High Definition TV (looks to be flat panel) mounted in the wall. This is accompanied by a sophisticated remote. The marble flooring in the bathroom and toilet are the same, but the door to the toilet been replaced with a sliding door. It all has a very modern, Pier One feel to it. If you look up to the sixth floor from the Portico at the far right you will see two rooms with new brown railings replacing the old green ones. These are the showrooms. From the outside hallway you can see samples of the new carpet.

I was very impressed with the look of the new rooms. Gone are all of the garish art deco features and feel. While I am sure many will miss the feel of the old rooms, the new decor is far superior. The only downside I see is that the Contemporary will once again become a hot ticket and I will not be able to stay there at a reasonable price.

As we receive any further information on the transformation of the Contemporary, we'll let you know.

Is there a fridge in the room or do you have to ask for one and do they charge ya for it? 11 days till first disney trip....staying at the CR. Thanks in advance.

All rooms have dorm-sized fridges in them now at no charge.

I am trying to sift through all this info...question, though. How many does a Jr suite sleep?

Beth

I stayed at the Contemporary last year, grrr, look at those rooms. Doing the Poly this year and Coronado....

I know. Don't the new rooms look great!!! We are trying to add in some days at the Cont. during our Christmas vacation.

If you go onto www.allearsnet.com Deb has some pictures of the new rooms. It says something about renovating in 2006. We are thinking about going back then I sure hope that they are done by then because the beds look so comfortable and after a long day of running around like we do it is nice to feel like you are in your own bed.

We are staying @CR 10/1-10/5. Booked a one bedroom suite on 14th facing MK in tower. We have 2 girls (4&3) They dont sleep well with us in the same room and that is why we got a suite. I feel we paid a lot compared to what people have been posting. Has anyone ever stayed in the suites at CR??? what is it like, is it worth the $? we specifically asked for non-smoking, will they honor it? any info will be greatly appreciated by this DW newbie!! :wave2:

I don't know anything about the suite, but I booked it for Sept 25th thru Oct 1st. So the day we check out you guys will be checking in. You can do a search for information on the CR 14th floor suite. I found some information that way. I hope we all have fun.....I've been trying to figure out if the room is worth the extra $ too, but decided to go ahead and splurge this time.

Looks pretty "suite" to me! :)

Help, I can't get anything to come up once I click on. Would love to see what is there.

First, welcome to DIS! I've not stayed at this resort yet and have the same suite booked as well. There are a few pictures on another site and I'll be glad to PM the info on that. From what I hear, this concierge level is worth it. There are only 16 rooms and suites on this floor so you get VIP treatment. It is full concierge with evening wine reception and desserts and cordials. Not to mention the view you've gotten. The rooms haven't been refurbished, but I wouldn't think they would be grungy either. We're celebrating a birthday so decided to splurge ourselves.

I tried the link and it's not working for me either. :confused3

I am also planning a trip 9/30-10/5. Are there room's only (non-suite's) on the 14th floor? AAA only has suites available on the 14th floor. Did they redo the rooms on the 14th floor yet or will they be done by September? The rooms look beautiful and would love to try it. :earsboy:

CAn you get a AAA discount on a CR 14th floor suite? When I called and made my ressies the CM told me no discounts on a suite.
I know that I checked the availability of 2 rooms (9/25-10/1) and there were not any rooms available.

AAA gave me a price for the suite, so I was assuming it was with the discount. I did not check it againist the Disney price.

No AAA discounts on suites, but boy do I wish. AAA discounts only apply to rooms. It is possible to get AAA discount or even an AP discount on a 14th floor regular concierge room. There are only a couple of regular concierge rooms on this floor. I think 4 maybe? Discounts are limited, but not impossible.

When you get back in July will you please post a review of the 14th floor. I will be eager to hear what you have to say.
Don't know how the PM thingy works but would love to see the pictures, so if you can will you please PM me the pictures or address of the other site.

Hi, guys. I don't want to be a downer about the CR 14th floor, but we stayed in that one bedroom MK suite last Thanksgiving week and it was totally run down and yucky. We paid $1200 +/night and expected it to be fabulous. Big disappointment. :guilty:

We have been CR fans for the past 13 or so years. We have stayed there several times a year - and we come from Illinois, that was our FAVORITE place to stay. We usually stay 12th floor tower club. LOVED it. After this last stay, I will not stay there again. At least until the whole place is redone. It was just so awful. That 14th floor stay ruined the CR for me.

We decided to splurge as it was a holiday - our first at WDW. Big bummer. I really was grossed out by the maintenance (lack of). The shower tiles had black mold in the grout, the walls were dingy and scuffed, ripped wallpaper, lipstick on the bathroom wall around the mirror....a gross drip from the toilet flusher, the toilet is like a public one with the flush on the wall. The bathroom ceiling tiles were caving in and dusty, stringy gunk was hanging down. Even the paint job on the trim& in the closet was poor quality. Just oldish and cruddy. There is a microwave that is soooo old I was afraid to use it!! The fridge was NEVER stocked - as other posters have said it would be!! :confused3 The "wood" furniture's finish was peeling, there were drink rings on it, the upholstered furniture had threadbare edges. Yuck.

I was just extremely disappointed in the quality and maintenance of that room for what it cost!!! I discreetly mentioned it to the concierge and she talked to a manager who took a couple hundred off our bill. (Yay :sad2:) ) She had housekeeping do a better job. I don't think it was a housekeeping issue so much as a maintenance problem. It just hadn't been kept up. I would have prefered to move down to the 12th, but no availibility.....

Just be warned. The "lounge" area is pretty but the food was NOT so good. One night was jalapena poppers (like frozen) and potstickers another. I make them better. Don't remember anything else at all except that it was OK, not good. THe hall carpet had lots of stains on it.

Good luck. Hope you get a better room than we had. I don't remember the number - I know we were on the end closest to the MK, facing the MK. That is one reason I mentioned it to the concierge. I thought maybe we just got a bad room?? She kind of agreed about the maintenance, though, and kept talking about the coming rehab. (I felt like the issue was kind of swept away with the promise of how great the CR would be in the future...blah blah blah....)

Part of the reason we decided to try this and upgrade from our usual 12th floor concierge stays was all the terrific and tempting stuff we read on this DIS forum. I just could not believe how far from the truth it was. Not to say people aren't honest, but it was just shocking to us the difference from the reality to what we had read other peoples' experiences were.

I still regret spending that amount of money. I could have stayed 2 weeks at a deluxe disney resort for what we paid on that yucky room. NO AP discounts for the suites. Ever.

Good luck. I really would think twice, though about paying that price for this room. Try the GF, BWI (they have concierge deluxe with separate sleeping areas), or YC/BC.
