DISNEY'S CONTEMPORARY RESORT Information Thread!

Hi everyone, just back from our first stay at the CR, Nov. 25-Dec. 1. We LOVED this resort! I requested a room on the MK side, as high as possible and was hoping for an odd-numbered room so the beds faced the MK. We got 6th floor directly over Chef Mickey's, and an even number (4232). I never complain when I don't get requests, because usually it is no big deal, and that was exactly the case! The MK view was awesome and we had absolutely no issues with noise from Chef Mickeys. There were MVMCPs almost every night of our stay (which I think is very annoying, but that is a whole other subject), but it was nice to watch the fireworks from our balcony while the kids were sleeping on the nights were were in early.

I thought the rooms were beautiful and ours was clean. The first day we came back for a rest (3 kids ages 3, 5, 7) at 3:30 and they were cleaning our room which I thought was way too late. After that I called housekeeping and requested service by 12:00 for the remainder of our stay, and they kept to it. The sinks are definitely not practical, but I didn't really have issues with lack of counter space because there is a shelf the whole length of the sink where we kept our stuff. I read about the lack of clothes storage so I brought wire hangers for my stuff and my DH's stuff, and we put our socks/underwear/shorts in the drawers in the closet. Put our kids' clothes in the drawers next to the bed and put a big suitcase in the toilet room which we used as a hamper for the dirty stuff every day. This worked great and everything stayed neat and out of the way.

To those who asked, you can use counter service credits at the Sand Bar. The Tempo Grab and Go is very limited, the pool service is much better. At one point when we were in the pool, some ducks got in, but overall we didn't see any big issues with ducks/birds at the pool. The CM lifeguards were so nice, and when my 5 year old wanted to go on the slide (he can swim) but panicked when he got to the top, the very nice lifeguard turned the water off so it wasn't rushing as fast and let him go down slowly so he would not be scared. I thought that was so nice and he went down about 100 times more at full speed after that.

This is definitely our favorite resort now and I think this will be our regular now. With 5 people we don't have tons of options, but I liked this so much better than the Poly, and personally, the GF leaves me cold. Thanks to all of the regulars who post on this thread, I got so much helpful information over the past several months!

The new gift shop looks cute, and on our last day when we came down they had built a cool monorail/contemporary tower using the playsets they sell at the entrance. My son loved that.

I stopped by the CR yesterday as my family is there (still need to get some pics up). The Tempo Grab and Go has a reasonable price on soups/chili, I paid $2.59 for a cup (not a small one) of beef barley. It was really good, too.

The one bad thing about the rooms, it seems like dust is really attracted to the glass table. My parents didn't notice, but I don't like a heavy film of dust.

The walk is about 10 minutes from MK to CR. I did a photo walk on that previously, I never take the monorail if going between the two.

Thanks for the info and favorable review since we will be there in a very short time; can't wait! I am so glad the food options are improving and that the gift shop is turning out okay. We (or at at least ME are getting so excited as reports like yours pop up!

Thanks again for sharing!

LMEJ, I'm glad you had such a good trip! Did the Sand Bar have refillable mugs? We will be on the Deluxe DDP in February, and the mugs are included in the plan. I know the Tempo Grab n Go does not have them.

Thanks!

I am also intrested if the Sand Bar was selling the mugs, because like I said before it would have been just like the last time the Food & Fun Center was closed, by having them to be sold over there.

We are here right now, and we are LOVING it. We requested a park view room, with the highest floor they could get us. They gave us the 8th floor. What an incredible view! We just watched the MVMCP fireworks and are making our plans for tomorrow.

Our room was very clean!

I don't love the sinks, but I have enough storage for all 4 of us. And the sinks aren't really getting in my way. I would say that my only sortof complaint is that I don't love the shower head. :)

When we checked in there was supposed to be a cake that we ordered in our room. They tracked it down for us and we have it here now. Too bad we just got back from Hoop De Doo, and there's no room for cake! What a great team they have working here.

If I get down to the sand bar I will check for refillable mugs!

Oh, and where oh where do I find Dr. Pepper or Mr. Pibb?! I'm dying here! ;)

Thanks for you're live report and it's great you're having a fun time at WDW. As for you're question before it closed I know the Food & Fun Center had Pibb Xtra on the soda machine, which you could have used in the mugs or a paper cup. However right now since it's no longer open that won't help. I would suggest trying the Hess gas station that you see when leaving the Magic Kingdom. They don't sell any Pepsi products so no Dr. Pepper, however they have Coca Cola products and I have seen Pibb Xtra there. The other option is to go somewhere offsite which sells both Coca Cola and Pepsi products, so you should find either brand for sale.

Does any monorail going toward the MK stop at CR? We have ADR's at Chef Mickeys for dinner and I can't remember if the monorail usually stops at CR or if you have to get on a certain one.

The Resort Monorail is the next stop after it leaves the Magic Kingdom and it's the only one that stops there.

The other Monorail is the Express one which goes from the TTC to the Magic Kingdom and goes right threw the Contemporary, however it never stops there.

Ok, thanks!!:goodvibes

I was just wondering, is there an option to book a MK view that guarantees that you will get one? thanks!

PolynesianPixie, thanks you for the quick response. Have a great time and be sure to take alot of pictures of that awsome view.

Yes, they started that a year or two back. My parents had the Bay Lake view this weekend, which was great (seeing the Electric Water Parade from the balcony, we could also see some of the Epcot fireworks).

I went down to the sand bar about 9 pm last night but they were closed! Amy what room are you in, we are 4448 down at the end 8th floor MK view. Anyone have any questions while we're here?
