Disney's CONTEMPORARY RESORT Information & Questions

We will end up in the garden wing, so when DH gets up in the morning to fill his refillable coffee he's heading to the contempo cafe for coffee, right? We've only passed through but in the past the tower always felt more structured than some of the CS at other resorts... for reference he wore pj's to go from YC to the BC marketplace- so is he going to feel any more out of place shuffling into the tower in flannel pants and a mickey t-shirt? If he thought it was ok at the YC is it probably the same level of "whatever"? Or is he going to be getting glared at by dressed for the day people who don't want to see pj's?
I wouldn't worry too much about that. I've often wandered down to the Contempo Cafe for breakfast in jogging shorts, a t-shirt, and flip-flops. While it is true that it is a conference hotel, and you'll run into people in business causal attire, the majority of people you see will be families like yours starting their day at Chef Mickey's or also just grabbing a quick bite or a coffee. I always figured that I'm on vacation, and I'm not dressed inappropriately, so I didn't care that I wasn't in my "Sunday best".

My family of 6 (DH, DD 10, DD 6, DD 1, and DS infant) will be staying at the CR this summer. Since we have 2 babies (under 2) we upgraded to a TP view. We figured the babies could sleep and we could go out on the balcony and watch the fireworks with the 2 oldest. After reading some of the posts, did we make the wrong decision by upgrading? Should we go back to the BL view?
I have a feeling a few of my posts contributed to this feeling. Honestly, it is all a matter of personal preference. The TP view is extremely popular for a reason, otherwise they wouldn't charge extra for those rooms. It is just that for my wife and I, the BL view is ideal for us. We love to start our mornings by having breakfast on the balcony and enjoying the serenity of the rising sun over peaceful Bay Lake, before entering the madness of the theme parks. And at night, since we are rarely in the parks until closing, we can sit and watch the Electrical Water Pageant before heading to bed. But for you and your family, the TP view might be perfect.

Thank you! This is our 1st time at the Contemporary. I'm looking forward to our stay...just concerned about the "Parking Lot Views".

It's only something like $50 more, so if you want to see the fireworks from your room, I'd surely do it. Never stayed Bay side, and I'm sure it's a great view, but for $50 enjoy the TPV.

Has anyone stayed at BLT on rented points recently able to comment on accessing the top of the world lounge? I've seen arguments about whether or not you're allowed up if you aren't the contract holding member. It's been mentioned that the rules say you must be staying on points, but not whether or not you need to own the points.

I believe you have to show your DVC member card to the lobby CM to get access to the TOWL elevator.

You do not have to be staying on points just staying at a Disney owned resort & be a DVC member. I went for my bday in May while staying at Pop. They scanned my Magic Band which showed I was staying at a Disney resort & also showed that I was a DVC member but I still had to show my DVC card. I don't know what they would have done if they scanned my Magic Band and it showed I was staying at BLT.

As long as you have a blue membership card and are staying at Disney resort, you will be allowed up (as long as it isn't a blacked out date).

Is the music for Wishes piped into the balconies in the TPV rooms? Three days until our first CR stay!!
Maybe you're thinking of the balconies of the Tower Club and Atrium Club lounges? It used to also be heard on the 4th floor Observation Deck, but I've been reading conflicting posts about whether it can still be heard there or not.

We are staying at BLT from 9/29/2014-10/7/2014. Cannot wait!!
Yippee! I'll put your dates in the Log.

Hi contempo lovers!

Im planning a trip for christmas and have booked the wilderness lodge. HOWEVER ive now been given a choice of staying at the contemporary. IM big on themeing AND nice rooms. I usually stay polynesian, but currently am in love with the grand.

Can you guys get me excited for the contemporary?!

The pool and theme looks so blahhh. But the rooms look nice and love the monorail. HELP and show me the disney magic of this hotel.
I could get you excited about CR, but Johnsonet already did a great job. I could also get you really excited about WL, but that might just confuse you more? We stayed at WL last Christmas and I can't tell you how perfect a setting it is for feeling like it's Christmastime. I've also done a split stay at both CR and WL for Christmas in 2010. I have to be honest, while I love CR, WL for Christmas is perfect and costs less. But, if the size of the room is really crucial, the CR rooms are bigger than the Standard rooms at WL. And, if you're going to spend a lot of time at the MK and/or you don't like boats, then CR is a better choice. Have you considered a split stay?

Just switched over from the Poly for August. Now I need to talk myself into this. (TA asked if I wanted GF or Contemp and I froze staring at my email for a good 45 minutes switching my mind back and forth!)

Has anybody got much experience with the CS locations here with numerous allergies? We are looking at wheat, soy, egg, dairy, peanut, some tree nuts, sesame, buckwheat and shellfish. Do you know if they do the allergy mickey waffles at the CS here? Or are we rushing to a TS breakfast every day if we don't bring our own? I had settled on the Poly because I know they handle this well.
I can't answer any of your CS allergy questions. I don't recall seeing guests in PJs at the CC or anywhere on the 4th floor. I have seen them in the CL lounges:sad2:. I believe that if you wouldn't wear PJs to McDonalds or a grocery store, then it isn't appropriate at WDW. Having said that, it is a bit of a trek from the GW to CC. Your DH will have to go through the GW, outside to the Tower and then either take the elevator or the escalator up to the 4th floor. You'll also have many guests looking down from the monorail to the 4th floor. No matter where you stay, I suspect there will always be some guests and CMs who don't care and some who do.

I'm not sure which posts are causing you to second guess the decision. But I'll tell you that I can't imagine staying at the CR or BLT without TP view. I've done it twice at the CR, and 4 or 5 times at BLT now. I'm from Maine, and dealing with crowds really isn't my thing. It's so wonderful being able to relax on my own private balcony and enjoy the view of the castle. Like the post before mine that says they like the BL view to enjoy breakfast with the sunrise, I have my breakfast everymorning with a view of the castle, and watch the park come to life. I've even caught the train going by with all the characters on it for the parks opening show. And at nights, other than making sure I stay at epcot for 1 showing of Illuminations, every other night of my trip I'm back on my balcony before the start of Wishes. Watching them in privacy (and with a rum and coke which can't be done in the park) just makes the whole vacation for me. And after the fireworks when everyone else is rushing to the buses, I'm already in my room and can watch the castle change colors for as long as I'd like. :thumbsup2

I just wanted to chime in here and say that sometime around noon tomorrow I will find myself walking through the doors of the CR as a guest for the first time instead of as a visitor. :cool1::banana:

pixiedust: How awesome!! I hope you'll love it.
Safe travels :drive:

So we will be checking in to the CR on June 23rd! It is our first stay here and I have been looking through this thread and other sites to determine what we should request for room preferences. I know we are booked in the Garden Wing and when I look at the online check in it has several options to choose for requests....we would really like to look out at the pool over a parking lot. Any ideas of what options I should choose on the request list... or should I contact the hotel separately with a request??

Thank you !!!

Are you in a Standard View room? Those overlook the parking lot with the monorail above. None have pool views. If you've booked a Garden View, then you can request a pool view, but you will not overlook a parking lot. You will need to call the WDTC/CRO to have any location requests added to your reservation. Online Check-In room requests are very limited and may not even apply to your particular booking, But you can also do OCI and the Room Assignor will see all your requests.

Have a great vacation at CR!

What are chances of getting into room at BLT at noon?
We're in at 10:30ish the room was ready at 2:30pm.

We had an incredible stay at BLT. I'd requested an even room on high floor. Our two bed lake view was 8402 on the 14th floor. We had a view to the left of magic kingdom and it was incredible. When I'm not on mobile I will some pictures!

Been to WDW many times, stayed on-site many times, but it's been my dream since childhood to stay at the Contemporary Resort. Finally getting my wish - we're booked for Dec 21-28 with Theme Park view! I know this is a crazy and expensive time to go, but Disney AT Christmas (not just Christmas season) has also been a dream, too.

Any advice from veterans which room # to request? Something high up. I also understand odd/even room #'s are situated differently, but I'm not sure which is which; any advice would be appreciated.

Other info - we're a family of 4, two daughters will be ages 5 & 3 by then.

Thanks in advance!
