Disney's CONTEMPORARY RESORT Information & Questions

Been to WDW many times, stayed on-site many times, but it's been my dream since childhood to stay at the Contemporary Resort. Finally getting my wish - we're booked for Dec 21-28 with Theme Park view! I know this is a crazy and expensive time to go, but Disney AT Christmas (not just Christmas season) has also been a dream, too.

Any advice from veterans which room # to request? Something high up. I also understand odd/even room #'s are situated differently, but I'm not sure which is which; any advice would be appreciated.

Other info - we're a family of 4, two daughters will be ages 5 & 3 by then.

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a dream come true :wizard:

Found this info under "Rooms and Rates" on Page 1 of this FAQ:

"~When lying on the bed in an odd-numbered Tower room on the Bay Lake side, you will face toward WL, Epcot and the South Garden Wing. Odd-numbered Magic Kingdom View beds face toward the MK."

I had 4843 (TPV CL) last summer and our beds faced MK :wizard:

Have a great time planning your trip :cheer2:

Also are studio fridges any bigger then ones in regular resort rooms?
The BLT Studio fridge is larger than a CR fridge: BLT STUDIO FRIDGE.

Welcome to the thread and I'll log your dates on the first page. Many like to be high up because it offers a more commanding view and you're a bit further from the parking lot below. Some also prefer to be further away from CM because of the Celebration song, which will also put you a bit closer to the MK. You're going to love the resorts at Christmas:santa:. I have a few CR Christmas photos in POST 13.

Do any of you have experience in the wheelchair accessible room in garden wing? Are all the standard view rooms all views of the parking lot? Does anyone advice on room request? Ive been trying to find out where the WC access rooms are located but no one at Disney has that info? So its hard to request a room?
Thank you :)! :goodvibes

Have a great vacation at CR!

Yes we are we arrive around 12 yesterday. Love the Contemporary Resort but still love the Wilderness Lodge more. I'd send some pictures but I don't know how to use this application on my smartphone. As soon as I get to my tablet I'll upload some pictures. :)

As long as you have a blue membership card and are staying at Disney resort, you will be allowed up (as long as it isn't a blacked out date).

What is blue membership card and is there any way to "borrow" one if you are staying at BLT but aren't a DVC member?

When I went to Top of the World on May 6th they scanned my Magic Band to be sure I was staying at a Disney resort. I believe they could also see that my profile on MDE shows that I'm a DVC member. They did look at my DVC card AND they required me to put in my pin number associated with my Magic Band to be sure I wasn't just borrowing someone's Magic Band. I think they would notice if the name on your Magic Band didn't match the member card.

Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park

Beginning 6/10/14: Bus service to and from the water park after 2:00pm will only be available at Epcot. Guests traveling to Typhoon Lagoon after 2:00 will need to get to Epcot, then get on the Typhoon Lagoon bus. When leaving the water park, you will be dropped off at Epcot, then you can take other transportation from there. This is all due to the transportation changes at Downtown Disney.

Yes. This is the BLT Studio fridge:

Thanks for all the info Kook!
Loved our first stay at the CR last month. Only problem is that it will wear you out. Normally we stay a little further away so by the time you get back to the room you think, "we really don't want to load everything back up and drive 20 minutes back to the park and take the Monorail....etc". But when you are staying at CR you look out your window and say "well crap it's just right there let's go back" :rotfl: Needed a 2 week vacation to recover from my one week vacation. Theme Park view was fabulous.

About to book with DVC rental points for BLT for next May and was wondering about the fridge size and what do you know.....there it is. Thanks for all your work on the thread. :worship:

I looked on Touring Plans and they show a Garden View GW HA room facing the pool/marina area. All Standard View GW rooms are in front of the parking lot with the monorail above. The Disney booking website has the option of booking a HA room so you could look there to see what comes up for your dates. You can also view photos on the Disney booking website.

I know just what you mean about WL, but I'm glad you're having a great time with your niece. Looking forward to hearing more about your trip soon.

Awww, thank you, skateshome. It is so tempting to "just walk on over" to the MK. You'll just have to stay longer next time so you can have more resort days;)

Have you stayed at BLT? The one bedroom was fabulous - love those two bathrooms and jacuzzi:thumbsup2

Nope.....lay out's look a lot like Bonnett Creek which we have stayed at a couple of times. Love the extra room but not the extra price. ;)
Will be slummin' it in a Studio instead.

Just finished a split stay with 4 nights at BC CL and 4 nights at CR CL. We enjoyed BC but my family absolutely fell in love with CR. It will be hard to consider any other resort going forward. I think we will try for BLT next time.

Those CR CL views are amazing. Splits are lots of fun - like two vacations in one. Would you just stay at BLT or would you split?

Chocolate Pudding Cake from CA Grill:

Enjoy this exquisite dessert from the California Grill at home! The Chocolate Pudding Cake is for fans of intense chocolate flavors!
Makes 1 (9-inch) cake

Ingredients

12 ounces bittersweet chocolate, roughly chopped
1/2 cup water
2/3 cup sugar, divided
2 sticks unsalted butter, at room temperature, cut into small pieces
5 large eggs

Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray a 9-inch round cake pan with nonstick spray with flour; set aside.

Step 2: Combine water and 1/3 cup sugar in a heavy saucepan over high heat, stirring until sugar melts. Bring to a boil, and cook 2 minutes. Remove saucepan from heat; slowly add chocolate, stirring until completely melted. Stir in butter, a few pieces at a time, until completely melted.

Step 3: Combine eggs and remaining 1/3 cup sugar in a medium bowl; beat with an electric mixer until pale yellow and very frothy.

Step 4: Slowly stream chocolate-butter mixture into egg mixture, stirring until smooth and satiny.

Step 5: Pour batter into prepared pan. Place cake pan inside of a larger roasting pan; pour hot water around cake pan until water reaches halfway up sides of cake pan. Carefully transfer pans to oven.

Step 6: Bake 28 to 30 minutes until just firm.

Step 7: Remove cake pan from roasting pan and let cool 30 minutes. Carefully invert cake onto a large plate before serving, or serve directly from pan.

Cook's note: Cake can be served with mint flavored marshmallows, chocolate meringue kisses, a spread of Nutella, or mint whipped cream.

Would you just stay at BLT or would you split?

Depends on how many nights we stay but if it was say 8 nights I would probably stay two nights in a moderate or value to help with the costs but I'm pretty set on BLT! It might not be for a while though. Our next trip is to DLR.

We are at BLT now in a one bedroom lake view and are loving it! The villa is so much bigger and nicer than I thought it would be and we have that lake/monorail side view that is awesome!! Love watching Wishes from the walkway, too!

WDWKOOK - you are so sweet (pun intended ;)) to share that recipe. My daughter would adore that cake ::yes::

Sounds heavenly! Will you be sharing photos?? :rolleyes1
Either way, enjoy your vacation :cloud9:

Can't wait to make my FP+ selections this weekend. Woohoo!
So - at the 60-day mark I can make selections for all dates of my trip?

Has anyone stayed at BLT on rented points recently able to comment on accessing the top of the world lounge? I've seen arguments about whether or not you're allowed up if you aren't the contract holding member. It's been mentioned that the rules say you must be staying on points, but not whether or not you need to own the points.

I stayed at BLT on rented points in Nov. 2012 and had no issues going up to the top of the world. I just told them we were 'guests' of my 'cousin' and he let us use his points (never mentioned renting them). They scanned our room key and saw that it was under DVC points then up we went!
