Disney's CONTEMPORARY RESORT Information & Questions

Hi All,

We are first timers at Contemporary in August 5-10. Definitely not Disney first timers though ;) My husband is attending a conference, and I couldn't pass up the $189 rate to walk to MK. We have a 5 and a 3 yr old. I have been perusing the thread as this is, for me anyway, a very last minute trip. Any tips Contemporary specific. We have a standard room with the conference rate.
Thanks
Welcome! Unlike a regular booking where you would actually book and pay for a particular view in either the Garden Wing or the Tower, I believe that the Conference bookings are randomly assigned rooms. You could end up either in the Tower or in the Garden Wing. The Room Assignor may block your room a few days prior to arrival so you might be able to see where you have been assigned by looking online at your reservation. Otherwise, you won't know until you check-in. But, your rate is wonderful so anywhere will be great and I'll add your dates to the log.

As far as tips, you already know about the walkway and I think your kids would love to eat at Chef Mickey's and play in the sand on the beach. The CC is a great spot for you and the kids to watch the monorail go by and they have very pretty and tasty cupcakes;)

Wow..what a great rate!! Dont blame you for not wanting to pass it up...especially for a stay at the CR....

WDWKOOK already gave you some great tips...:goodvibes just wanted to add that on the 4th floor..aka Grand Canyon Concourse.. there is a very nice viewing area for the fireworks....and there is a nightly Electrical Water Pagent out on Bay Lake that is lots of fun to watch..it can be seen from your room if you are in the tower with a Bay Lake view..if not a very great spot is from the boat dock...

Enjoy your first stay at the CR ..it is a WDW classic! :thumbsup2

We go to a conference at the CR every Sept and get a great rate. Just wanted to let you know that we have always been able to request a room type. If you want a Tower room (and you do, believe me;)) then request it. It's worth a try anyway and you have nothing to lose. :thumbsup2

Planning to book a MK view tower room for our first stay at the Contemporary after about 28 trips to WDW. Which floor should I request for optimum view. We are NOT staying club level.

Thanks for the tips. When I booked the CM told me only standard rooms were available. I am just assuming they will be in the garden wing. I'm not too worried about room location, but I will ask when I call to purchase the conference tkts. We have always had some sort of pixie dust magic, and I think the rate is it this time ;)

Hi all! I have been meaning to post here for a few weeks now, but life has been crazy with the end of school and lots of other things going on! And now all of a sudden we are 5 days away from leaving for our trip:banana: There are 9 of us staying in 2 one bedroom villas. I have some questions I hope someone can help me out with:

1. I see the villa comes with a 10 cup coffee maker, but do we need to bring any of our own coffee, or is it provided daily?

2. When we check in at BLT, will there be anyone to help us with our luggage? If not, are there luggage carts to use? (Husband not coming this trip :sad2:)

3. On our Epcot day, we will be taking the monorail there, taking a short afternoon break, and then heading back to Epcot. What is the best/quickest way to get back to BLT from Epcot?

Thanks so much for any help!!

Jennifer

Good questions!! We had one additional one to add. I see that laundry detergent is provided, but it's powder, and we prefer liquid, so we'll probably bring some, or add it to our Garden Grocer list. Are the washer and dryer high efficiency machines? That makes a different which detergent we bring :) Thanks!

Great information and you're right, it can't hurt to request it.

I wouldn't request a particular floor, but many like to request a "high floor" if they aren't afraid of heights. All the Tower rooms have unobstructed views, but being higher puts you further away from the parking lot below when you have a TPV.

Another popular request is an "odd numbered room." When lying in bed, you will face toward the MK/Castle.

The last most popular request is to be "far from Chef Mickey's." Some want to be further from the "Celebration Song" music. Since you would be staying TPV, you could instead request the "North End" and this will put you closer to the MK/Castle.

A Standard Room would only mean that you aren't in a Suite or Deluxe room. That is also a booking category for the 14th floor Tower Club non-suite rooms. But, I'm almost positive there aren't any Tower Club conference bookings. Some conference attendees do get bumped up to Club Level rooms, however, I don't think that would ever be a booked category. A Standard View room is a booking for the Garden Wing and also for a Bay Lake facing room in the Tower. I suspect the CM just meant that you have been booked into a non-suite/non-Deluxe room. Go ahead and put in a request for a Tower room, unless you have a fear of heights.

Welcome, Jennifer!

1. If you are staying on a cash reservation, your supplies will be replenished as needed and/or requested.

2. BLT has its own check-in and Bell Services available from 7 AM - 10 PM.

3. In general, the monorail should be the fastest way back. If you are very close to the IG (International Gateway), you could walk to the BC and take the bus to the MK and then walk right over to BLT. Timing would determine whether this actually ends up quicker. Sometimes the monorail gets delayed "waiting for traffic to clear," or you might be much closer to the BC bus than to the monorail.

The One Bedroom Villas have a stackable washer/dryer and I don't recall them being HE. Detergent is provided in the villas, but if you want to bring your own or you aren't staying in a villa, I travel with the all-in-one sheets. They have the detergent and fabric softener in them and you just toss them in the dryer and they act as a dryer sheet, too. They are very slim and I put them in a ziplock baggy along with my quarters. I use two per small - medium load.

Would the odd numbered request hold true for BLT as well? Which bedroom would have the bed facing towards MK? I'm actually most interested in the couch being on the side that faces toward the MK :)

Also, we're in a 2 bedroom, but not sure if we'll get a dedicated, or a 1BR/Studio combo. Are there also stackables in the dedicated 2 bedroom? We normally do bring the all in one sheets, but I can't seem to find them for sale anywhere anymore :confused3

Thanks! We are staying on a cash reservation. As far as our Epcot day, our last ride before we leave is Spaceship Earth, so we will be closer to the monorail. So, we take the monorail back to the TTC, then transfer to the resort monorail, then ride it all the way around to the Contemporary, right? That just seems like such a long journey!;)

Just thought of another question! Is there anywhere at BLT or CR for my daughter to get a hair wrap??

Booked 5 nights in a Bay View room for August. I'm terrifically excited

Haven't stayed in a BV room since 1994 :dance3:

Cannot wait for those spacious, gorgeous rooms, walking to the MK - and the festive atmosphere there at CR :woohoo:

The odd/even does not work for BLT. There, the odd number rooms are the inside of the ring, and the even number are the outside. So if you have MK view booked, you will have an even number for sure.

Yes for the two bedroom you'll have a stacked washer/dryer on the 1-bedroom side, so it doesn't matter if it's a dedicated or lock-off. I haven't checked in a while, but you might be able to get those Purell laundry sheets on Amazon!

Enjoy your trip!

After you arrive at the TTC, CR is the 4th stop which should be about 15 minutes if all goes well. The only way to get there faster is to take a cab which would be less than 10 minutes from Epcot.

I don't recall seeing one there. My DD got hers done back in 2010 at WL, but I noticed last year that the stand was gone and replaced with a towel return bin.

Yippee! Are you booked at Bay Lake Tower or are you booked at CR in a Bay Lake View room? That's our favorite WDW room view - you're going to love it!

Thank you so much, WDWKOOK. I love that peaceful view :cloud9:. Do you recommend higher floor vs. lower?

I have been enjoying your photos and info most of the day, LOL. Your FAQs really are incredible. Your organizational skills are superhuman! :worship:

I concur with WDWKOOK. The Bay Lake view is the BEST! In fact, on our last trip we turned down an "upgrade" to a Magic Kingdom view because we love this view so much. (I put "upgrade" in quotes, because we certainly didn't feel like it was an upgrade for us.) As far as higher vs. lower floor, we prefer the higher floor because we feel like it gets us a little farther away from the hustle and bustle of the 4th floor (shops, Chef Mickey, etc.) and the monorail. I don't know how much difference it really makes in terms of noise, but psychologically it makes us feel like it is more peaceful.

This year we're trying BLT for the first time. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'm not going to regret it after four wonderful trips in the Contemporary tower with a Bay Lake view.

Thank you so much, Aaron :) If I'm able to request higher floor when I do on-line check-in, then I'll do it.
I know what you mean about the view. Although it was 20 years ago, I still remember the views we had from a Bay Lake View room in the tower. And I'm reminded of them every time I stop in at the Outer Rim Lounge. Really nice :thumbsup2

I hope you'll love BLT. We did. We've only stayed there once but it was fantastic. (That was w/ MK views) Have a great trip!
