Disney's CONTEMPORARY RESORT Information & Questions

Love that you beat DD and that Disney lost no time in actually charging your credit card the minute you checked-in:rotfl: Welcome to the CR/BLT thread and don't worry about a thing, CR is wonderful. The beds are super comfy and the walk to MK is magical. The view of Bay Lake, the EWP and Wishes is amazing. You might want to request a Bay Lake-facing room. That is an option with a GV booking, though it can't be guaranteed. The view of Bay Lake is amazing and from the ground floor rooms you can walk right out to the beach. Unfortunately, the resorts will not be decorated by the time you leave. You're leaving about 7-10 days prior to them being decorated. I have looked for permits, but never found any so I have no information of the splash pad closure. The new operating hours began 1 SEP and are slated to be in place for several months.
Are the "new" operating hours the same as the old operating hours? Disney's website is still reporting the later start times that were in place over the summer: Resort beginning at 8:30 am, Epcot beginning at 9:30 am. Worried about early morning ADRs! Thx!!!

Is it worth it to do online check-in if we're staying Atrium CL for one night? We'll be there in 3 weeks for our split stay and about the only thing I'd want to request would be a king bed and even that's not a must. Thoughts?

Did you book MKV or std atrium club? For MKV I do like the odd numbered room to see the castle from the bed. However if I was traveling with dh I would definitely prefer any king on that floor.

I have had a room almost to the end and still the walk to the lounge/elevator is easy.

Reminder you can access lounge until midnight on check out day so if at MK that day/night POP over and use the lounge again:thumbsup2 It is a great spot to watch the fireworks frompixiedust:

In 1999, during a visit to the Contemporary, we fell in love with the brushed metal Christmas trees in the lobby. Unfortunately, we did not get a picture.

Does anyone on the DIS have a picture they could post of the lobby or one of the trees?

Thanks all!

FYI, according to CR IPO, there are only 2 rooms on the 12 floor Atrium CL that have king beds. One on the MK side and one on standard side. I've asked already :(

Thanks Trish...
This next trip is just DH & I (celebrating our anniversary :)). We are booked in a std vw Atrium CL room for one night before we transfer over to the YC CL for the remainder of our stay. I did end up going online but didn't see where I could choose a King room :confused3.

Well if there's only two king rooms then I assume my chances of getting one will most likely be "slim to none".

Soooo glad I booked my garden wing room when they were released for 2015 as they have been sold out for our dates for weeks now!!!

Pretty excited to stay at the CR and wondering if I should make any room requests for the garden wing garden view??

Was thinking of upgrading to a tower room if discounts come out but is it worth it just to be in the tower?? We are only here two nights before moving to akv and will be at mk all day the day after arrival! Thanks :)

Glad you were able to get what you wanted :goodvibes.

As far as changing room types, worth is subjective as it's different for everyone, but if it were me and a good discount came out, I would consider changing to a tower room (but that's just me as I would like to be right in the middle of all the hustle and bustle ;)).

8 days!!!!!

:banana::banana:

Also wondering if anyone has an update on the monorail....back to "normal" operating hours yet? TIA!
Just found this, thought I would share!

From Tikiman's Unofficial Polynesian Resort Pages:
Starting Saturday September 27 the monorail will operate to the folowing hours.

Resort Monorail: 7 AM to 1 hour after park close

Express Monorail: 8:30 AM to 1 hour following park close

Epcot Monorail: 8 AM to 11 PM or 1 hour after park closes when the park closes earlier than 10 PM

Any idea how long these operation hours will last? Just wondering if this will impact our Thanksgiving trip?

I would imagine they stay in place indefinitely? This is a return to "normal" hours after working on a reduced operating schedule during the summer to do maintenance on the trains.

This is my first post so bear with me if I don't do "it" correctly. We went on our first full family Disney trip on July 4th of this year and booked a garden view room with no knowledge that it wasn't in the tower. We saved a few bucks but I'd never do that again. We kind of felt like we were in the land that time forgot. I'll pay the extra money to be part of the action from now on. It's worth it IMHO.

We loved our wing room. We never had to wait for elevators. A quick walk to the bus or the MK.

I think the best GW/GV rooms are the ground floor rooms that directly front Bay Lake. You can walk right out to the beach and the view of BL is so relaxing.

There are "newly revised" temporary operating hours beginning 9/27 which are longer hours than the previous temporary operating hours I have in POST 1:

As of 9/27/14:

Epcot - 8:00am-11:00pm or 1 hour after the Magic Kingdom closes (whichever time is earlier)

Resort monorail - 7:00am-1 hour after the Magic Kingdom closes

Express monorail - 8:30am-1 hour after the Magic Kingdom closes

Welcome to the thread! I don't personally have any 90's photos, but I did find a metal monorail lobby tree pictured HERE - is that it? Or is it this one?

Thank you. The schedule I posted was from the DIS and seems to be the same.

An "automation upgrade" is taking place and was originally projected to take several months which would be through November, but no set end date has been announced.

:welcome: to the DIS and the CR/BLT thread, barrybnds! We're honored that your first post is here and you did a great job. Thanks for posting about your GW experience.

Thank you so much for the information. That helps a lot. Are the 2br hard to book? I will be trying to book one as soon as our eleven month window opens up.

I have always done the cash ressie, because we are not owners. At 11 months you should be fine.

I have poked around for future dates and since VGF opened there appears to be more availability at BLT.

Lastly on page 1 kook has work2plays's thread about views etc at BLT! I memorized the room numbers lol. BUT! When I check in I know exactly where I am. :thumbsup2

We like the "outside c" because of the pie shaped rooms and privacy. Others like the "inside" due to no parking lot view.
