Resort Thread Disney's Club Level (CL) Thread

Thanks for your very detailed report! Can you list some of the hot appetizers you experienced at Poly CL? I'd appreciate it! Thanks!!!!

Also, you mentioned no one was outside to greet you. Did you go straight to the Hawaii building or continued onto the main check in desk? Thanks again!!

Disclaimer, we missed a few evenings so didn't see everything, but were there more often than not. The usual setup is two hot appetizers that rotate nightly. They pretty much have the same setup of raw veggies, cheeses, crackers, a bit of fruit, and pineapple & honey every night (I'm not positive the pineapple and honey was every night). Kids offerings seemed to rotate between cut in half uncrustables and mini corn dogs. Humus and little bread things were also out nightly.

Hot appetizers included chicken wings with a Polynesian sauce, mushroom risotto, bacon-wrapped meatballs, spring rolls, mini-quesadillas. They had basic sushi one night. Again, only two of these per night. The sauces they offer with most of these are pretty tasty actually. Overall none of these were particularly bad, just not as much variety as what we had at BC or GF.

For check-in, we pulled the car up and the bellman started helping with our things. I told him we were checking in CL and he said "do you know where the Hawaii building is?" I reluctantly said yes, and he told us to walk there ourselves. I'm not sure what he would have done if we said no. I never saw a greeter or any other CM besides bellmen out front all week, but maybe I just had bad timing? Once at Hawaii, our bands didn't work to open the doors so had to tap on the glass/beg to be let in. The CL CMs were shocked they told us to walk back on our own - there is a disconnect in process going on there.

And your experience sounds similar to mine at CR this past January. I asked for 'near the elevators', and I was put in the last room at the end of the hall. I would have waited for the next available room, but that person had been given an extended checkout of 4pm? I have never heard of that before! Usually they will offer me 12 pm or nothing at all.

Also thought the CL food was very skimpy. Made me feel like, going forward, I would no longer book CL. Maybe they heard the complaints because a lot of people are coming back saying the food and service at the various CLs has been great.
You may be right! I remember it used to be that CL was only around $100 or so more per night too. I booked the October CL visit at the same time I booked my one for this past July1, so I don't pay much attention to final cost as I had moved reservations around so much that I was constantly just adding a little here or having a few extra $$ there. When I sat down after I returned home July 4 and looked at my total for four adults for two nights and it was between $1100 and $1200 I said "enough", especially when I saw that cutting CL would save $150 per night it was a no brainer. When my 19 year old and I stayed there for three nights it was about that much total and we ate a croissant to bagel each morning, some juice water and sodas, some hummus and chips and some snacks. Oh and a cookie. I don't think that comes to $300 :D My biggest aggrevation was all of the backtracking. Hopefully this time booking regular we will be closer to the exits. One thing I did like was the huge television in the CL rooms though!

That sounds like our CL Poly experience, although they told us to stop at the desk first. Oh and heads, if you park valet at the Poly be prepared for anything. They lost my keys when I dropped the car there for dinner, then accused me of not giving them the key!

So cool!! BC CL was our favorite for many, many years (and we still do love it). It will be perfect for your kids' ages! Maybe you'll start to do what we do and that's split a trip -- half at BC and the other half at a monorail resort. Yes, your assessment of the food is the same as ours. After seeing RPC and BC food, you can really see how Poly pales in comparison. I know you will, but definitely check out the sandy-bottom shallow water pool section! My kids used to live in that part! You're right -- the Epcot area is like an entirely different world. I instantly fell in love with it the first time I saw it. Can't wait to hear your thoughts!

Side notes: the surrey bikes are fun to rent on the boardwalk. You can see high fireworks of Illuminations from various parts of boardwalk. If you don't want to enter Epcot, just watch from the little bridge along the boardwalk near the Epcot entrance. You can walk to mini golf too! Might be too hard with your DD though. If you see CM Neil, tell him it's your DD's bday celebration and he'll make a very fancy pin for her!

I just saw your room view -- I didn't even know there were 1st floor CL rooms? Is that a deluxe? But yes that looks like a pretty good view!

Hey TJA - thanks for your posts along our journey! What a great week with a little extra fun at the end. Honestly I've always sort of dismissed the Epcot area resorts (out of ignorance mainly) but I really liked BC! I could see us definitely putting it on the rotation in the future. It's hard to beat the monorail resorts with the young ones but this was like a whole new way to do Disney. We did do the surrey bike that night but with only one peddling, it was TOUGH on the two hills!

Yes, it did. And I was one of the very few who actually loved the BC CL even before refurb! But now, post-refurb, not only is the lounge quite large and rooms very polished, but they also vamped up the food so now it is comparable to RPC food.

Maybe I was just beaten down by the Poly food all week but my breakfast, snacks, and apps at BC were better than RPC in February. It's close, but I'll give the nod to BC in my book. I think with a longer stay I may have been more annoyed with the closing lounge hours. The lounge is such an integral part of our stays at places like Poly CL but BC was different in that we'd really just eat and go. Not that we hang out at the Poly lounge for long periods of time, but it does inspire lingering and chatting a bit longer. :-). Also I'm with you about the balconies. Spoiled by the monorail resorts on that front...I enjoy my morning and evening times sitting/relaxing outside!

BC Lounge was so clean! In the Poly CL lounge, if your kid drops a goldfish and steps on it, the crumbs tend to "fit in" and it's not the end of the world. You drop crumbs in this lounge and you feel bad!

BC Almost had a bit of a stuffy RPC feel to it, I have to say. That's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just the vibe.

I totally agree with this! I know exactly what you mean. At the Poly lounge, we're very comfortable just hanging around not worrying too much about anything. At BC lounge, it's always a bit of a hurry to get in and out, it seems. Not that it's a bad thing, but it's not the lingering type of lounge. Probably because the CM's are so intent on keeping it clean and ready to lock the doors at the right times. Now we actually felt relaxed at RPC and I think it's because there weren't many CM's working when we went, plus they never walked around and took dirty plates off our table like they do at BC (and BWI). We'd pile all our dirty stuff up and then take it over to the ledge near the drinks. And of course the RPC lounge doesn't "close," so we felt comfortable just hanging around whenever we wanted to. We're also a family that utilizes lounge time, so I will say it's not our preference to have the lounge closed at certain times of the day/night. I do think it would stand out to you more for a longer trip there.

I'm glad you experienced the BC CL food for yourself -- I always felt bad when I rated Poly CL food so low. Maybe if enough of us follow up with feedback, they will take note. Problem is, there are so many other perks to staying at Poly CL that they can keep the food the way it is and we will all still keep going back.

What is it with Poly and birthdays?? I don't understand.... We've had issues there too when it comes to birthdays. When you stay at BC CL in the future and have a birthday to celebrate, look for CM Neil because he makes fancy buttons! Glitter, princesses, etc. He goes to town. My girls have about 8 pins each that he has made them over the years.

All in all, glad you had a great trip! Onto planning the next one now! I'm currently working on ours. Looks like it won't be until Easter unless we do last minute end of August before school starts... I believe RPC is our next stop!

Thank you so much for the detailed offerings! Everything sounds great. It's disappointing that there isn't as much food at Poly compared to other CL's, but I'm sure we'll make the best of it.
Crazy you were told to walk to the Hawaii building! I've definitely never had that experience and hope you happened to get someone just having an off day. (Not that it's anymore acceptable) Sorry you even had to experience that! Hopefully you won't have to deal with that next trip. Thank you again!

@GADisneyDad14 Thank you so much for the full review. We agree about the greeters. We don't like how it is different at each resort. We had greeters at CR, BC and YC but not Poly each time we stayed there. I just don't get that. Again we loved all of your pictures.

Any GFRPC reviews lately? I know when I checked a few months ago it wasn't getting very good press. Staying there in 44 days and hoping things are getting better?

We returned from RPC yesterday. It does feel like they are listening to the feedback. Our previous visit to RPC was in March and we vowed we would never go back. However, we got a good deal with our AP discount for the weekend, so we tried it again. Noticed they added several food items (especially at breakfast including parfaits and hot items) and have made an attempt to present the food in a more upscale manner. Overheard one of the CM saying that they had asked one of the chef's at VA to help out with the food quality/presentation. Positive steps as far as we could tell. Our daughter's favorite mint foot rub lotion was back in the room too so that made her happy. Wine guards were very nice 2 of the 3 nights... if the one guard would have been a little less stingy .... LOL....

thanks so much of the reply. Bummer about the drinks being that way now, but it will be our first time, so we wont know better I suppose :)

Reposting my review from the Poly Thread and adding some additional commentary at the end.

We got home last night after a very pleasant stay at the Poly. We had booked with the magical deal, and had a GV CL room. We requested a third floor room, and we got 3534, so we were happy that we had a balcony! The room itself was in great condition, no major wear and tear noted, except maybe the outlets - so loose! The clock having the two USB ports gave us guaranteed phone charges, so that was a lifesaver. The view from 3534 isn't spectacular, as it's the nearest GV room to the 3rd floor lounge. That said, it's not a bad view. We could see both pools, but there is a large tree. The upside of a tree is that our room felt entirely private! The convenience of being so close to the lounge was much appreciated. It was very easy to run to grab coffee or a snack and head back up to the room. Housekeeping did a good job cleaning our room before we came back for afternoon break, and getting turndown done after we left again for the evening. The turndown service was not as thorough as we had at other resorts. They don't do anything other than turn down the bed and refill towels. At the CR and BC, they'd turn the lights down, turn the TV to soothing music, and do a quick tidying of the room.

The Poly grounds are beautiful, and the staff that I interacted with were friendly and helpful. The Oasis and Volcano pool redesigns were very well done - everything looks beautiful. My kids loved swimming and spent quite a lot of time at the pool. I swam pretty much every day, though I wasn't as pleased with the pools. Some observations: the pool water is much too warm, and shade is very hard to come by. People are very rude about taking up spots the moment the pool opens and then disappearing for hours. We decided to spend the first half of the day enjoying the resort. We went down to the Oasis pool around 8:00 am, and families had already grabbed all of the cabanas. Usually with one person sitting in it, with all of the chairs and sofas covered with personal items. The same people would stake out the cabanas for the entire week, all day long. We managed to get a chair sitting in one when another family saw us and invited my daughter and I over. Back to our pool saga - the kids swam in the Oasis pool until 9, then we moved over to the main pool when it opened. We were able to get a couple of loungers under an umbrella. My husband and I settled in with some books while the kids played and swam. We'd also hop in to the pool for 5-10 minutes to cool off, then back to the loungers to relax. We were there from 9 until about lunch time. Other people came in around the same time we did. They took the umbrellas around us. Piled stuff on all the chairs around the umbrellas and then proceeded to leave. Only one family was back by noon. I felt so bad for the families with very small kids looking for shade, while unoccupied spots were "reserved." The Poly really needs to do something about it; either figure out a way to provide more shady areas, or police the area to see whether loungers are actually being used.

The club lounge was nice in that there is ample seating and the view is spectacular. The staff was very friendly with us. The food choices were meh. Snacks in the afternoon were identical every day. Fruit skewers, veggies in cups, dip, chips, goldfish, and spicy snack mix, and later on in the afternoon, cookies. The Poly snacks are not as good as what you get at the Contemporary, Beach Club or GF. Breakfast was the same every day. Croissants, bagels, mini muffins, oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, yogurt and toppings. The evening appetizers were pretty much a bust for us. I'm the only one who eats seafood in the family, and there was quite a bit of it at the Poly. Nothing really stood out to me as being terribly good. I ate a lot of the veggies and fruit. I did appreciate the size of the lounge and the fact that we could always find a seat at all services. We loved the other families in the lounge! My kids hit it off with some of the others in the lounge, and they had a blast. It was great meeting @GADisneyDad14 and his family! My daughter loved his kids!

While I liked the resort, I don't think the CL experience matches up to what we had at other resorts. The BC is probably the very best, followed by CR. The Poly beats the GF - even with lackluster food. The lounge view is fantastic, and the staff there was wonderful to us. We didn't have a great experience with the GF staff - they were just not friendly or welcoming.

Next year I think we go back to the BC - we really, really missed a good pool this visit!

Hey @AliceIn, just wanted to say hi and glad you made it back home safely. Great to meet you all! The vinegar situation will always give me a little chuckle. You may have noticed we ended up doing a night at BC after we left (literally made the reservation sitting in the car in the Poly parking lot). We were impressed!

My kids went recently and I got them a regular room at BWI. I requested 'near elevators' and they were right by the lobby; they loved their location. They were happy to use their money on whatever they wanted vs having to be back at specific times for their snacks. CL is nice but easy enough to do without when you are saving so much money!

Sounds like this plan worked out well for your kids.
BWI CL isn't near the elevators, so if that is vitally important it's probably not the best resort choice. There are other CL's that would fit the bill better.

Just saw an updated message on the Disney website YC booking page. Apparently YC rehab is now scheduled for October.

Thanks for posting this update :flower3:.

I haven't been to RPC recently, but wanted to say I hope you have a nice trip and enjoy RPC :wizard:.

Thanks for this information. Hopefully things will change for the better in all CLs :).

Yes I was just making the point that you can have a room location you really like and save money too. They wanted to be near the lobby, not elevators, but I think the best option was 'near elevators'.

Has anyone stayed at AKl club recently? Would love a recent update. We are staying in Oct.
Just got here today, and I love it already. We drove, and I wanted to self park after unloading. Talked to a CM downstairs who brought me up immediately to CL. The check in CM asked me if I wanted a drink or wine while we checked in. No welcome chocolates in room.
Couldn't get the bunk beds till tomorrow but said I'd take the 2 doubles instead of switching and he gave us the most amazing view tons of giraffe, zebra etc.,
Offerings I saw so far: snack time: kettle chips, jelly beans, chocolate chip cookies, sugAR cookies, homeade type granola bar, always ice water picher, lemonade, 2 other juice type things, specialty.
Tea time is next: scones with jelly, cream cheese, frosted rice Krispy treats and pb frosted brownies. Always is this Kurig tea type machine with pods I didn't try yet.
Then is appetizer time: lots of stuff, all different like blue cheese, weird cheese,a normal cheddar, olives, some special honeycomb treat thing, stuff I don't even know what it was. Veggies were cold carrots, cucumber slices, asparagus sticks with ranch dressing. There was 3 kinds of hummuses, bread stick, crispy good cracker, a pita type bread and some other bread. Apples slices and carameldip. Always the pitchers of drinks and ice is out. Also I tried a couscous type of thing was cold and was good.
Always is a fridge with soda and milk. Wine was 3 African kinds, a red one, merlot and chardonnay. I poured it myself in a to go cup with ice, chardonay, that's how I like it.
For the hot appetizers a girl was serving a chicken something slaw mini bun thing, and a sausage vegetable stew type thing that tasted pretty spicy with tomatoes in it.
Looking forward to dessert!!!! This is our arrival day so nothing planned but checking things out.
