Resort Thread Disney's CARIBBEAN BEACH Resort

any idea if this will affect the main pool? I see the pool bar is included.

No where on the permits is the pool area showing as impacted. The lines surrounding the permitted area zig-zag around the pool. I believe the email states the Pool Bar will be closed.

I'm the one who posted the email earlier. Our stay is from 4/21 to 4/30. I suppose it is possible that they are starting work at the end of that week, but if I were you, I'd expect an email.

We are booked at CBR 4/23 to 4/28. I just talked with a guest relations cast member and she insisted that renovations to Centertown will start May 1. She said anyone staying at CBR prior to May 1 will experience zero construction.

WELL .... the poster before yours will not be in CBR in May and they got the email to be prepared. Honestly, they have permits, they have a plan and they will move forward when they are ready. They are not going to keep phone or resort CMs totally in the loop, they will just move forward.

I think we must have gotten the same cast member!! The lady I spoke to was really dismissive and rude! It almost felt like she was reading me a line of BS just to get me off the line. Is there an absolute guarantee that renovations won't start prior to May 1?

Zero guarantees. All Disney guarantees is a room. If they are ready and weather is good they aren't going to sit back because some CMs promised guests.

Didn't know if anybody had seen this post on WDW Today:

The Old Port Royale Food Court, Shutters, Banana Cabana Pool Bar, and Calypso Trading Post at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort will all be closed starting May 1st, 2017 as part of the ongoing re-imagining of the resort.

Starting at that time, Centertown will serve breakfast and dinner and a variety of grab-an-go options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be available at markets located in the Aruba, Jamaica, and Martinique sections of the resort.

These establishments are scheduled to return in late 2017 (as of right now).

I just got off the phone with 2 CM's. The first was quick to push me over to the Reservation center. I spoke with a man who was not very caring. He stated he had stayed at WDW resorts before that were under renovation and he had no problems. He did offer to look up prices for us to swap resorts. We are staying for 8 nights so even a minor price adjustment ended up big. $400 to swap to PO Riverside, $700 OKW, $1100 for WL, $1200 AoA family Suite or $1900 AKL. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was told no one was available at this time. I questioned if i wiuld have to call back tomorrow to discuss this with a manager and he said he would like to "handle my concerns" tonight. He said he would look at other options that he may be able to offer us to enhance our vacation. He came back to the line and offered 3 fastpasses. He said he did not have any details of the arrangements for food/beverages/souvenirs but assured me that they would meet our needs and if they didn't we could voice our issues with the front desk at check-in. I voiced that i did not want to wait and have to worry for the next 80 days about what we will encounter upon arrival and that i did not want to anticipate wasting a day of our vacation dealing with the front desk about unmet expectations.
Any advice?

We've never stayed at CBR and have only driven through en route to our resort on DME, so I'm very unfamiliar with it. I have friends staying there for the first time in early April (6-13th) as their son's baseball team is also staying there. I'm trying to read all I can about the refurb/construction just to fill them in and I understand the food court, pool bar, etc. closings won't affect them. Is there any construction that is starting now or by early April that will? Thanks!

Nope, they will be good.

Since it looks like we are staying put at CBR, for now, what would be the best "island" to request that will be furthest from the two construction zones? Two phone calls to Disney by our TA and two from us did nothing. Would Aruba be okay or should I request Jamaica? We have a water view but what good will that be now, looking across the lake at construction equipment. So disappointing.

Jamaica would be better than Aruba.

Do we even know what "islands" will be open? I assume most of Barbados and Martinique will be closed? Trinidad North is mostly preferred and South is pirate rooms. So essentially I really only have Jamaica and Aruba I assume. *sigh* I am still really bummed out about this. My husband is adamant about NOT paying more to stay in another resort. He actually wants to cancel the whole vacation if Disney doesn't compensate us in some way.

I am not sure what to do...We are having a girls trip, my best friend and I. We are planning on going June 19- 28th. We love CBR because it is quite and we are happy with the transportation. However we are worried that construction may become an issue. I checked to see what else is available and all the mods are gone that week. We could go value, but we wanted to stay away from the noise of kids (we did aoa and didn't like it). The next best thing is the wilderness lodge which is an extra 150 a night.....not really sure what to do....would you stay? go somewhere else? so confused on what to do....

I was informed that some buildings in Martinique and Barbados will be closed

We had 2 rooms at cbr for the week starting May 13th totally blind sided by this. If Disney refuses to either move us to another moderate for the same price or drop the price at cbr I will cancel by the end of the week. I refuse to let Disney do this to me after booking almost a year ago. This is unacceptable and will vote with my wallet if need be.

Everyone, look at it this way... (from an optimist's point of view):

Construction is being limited to between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, and likely you will be in one or more of the parks between those hours and won't notice. When you come back to the resort, there will be no construction noise, but it may be a little inconvenient trying to get yourself and your family fed and depending on where you are, around the construction. Those are the only inconveniences, other than the visual distraction caused by construction. And you can always hop on a resort bus and get yourself to an adjacent resort and eat until your heart's content, and your mind is at ease. I'm kind of surprised at all the negativity I'm reading here. I think most of you believe this is your right, not a priviledge. Don't confuse the two, because they are entirely different. Who knows, you may get there and be surprised at how little of an inconvenience all of this really is.

Yes, agreed, construction is not always nice to look at during a Disney trip, but if that's the way Disney can improve things for you - the guest, then that's the way it has to be. They only want to make things better for you. And for a resort that is open 24/7, it's difficult for Disney to select a time when it will cause the least amount of disruption. To them, late April/early May was probably the best non-peak time they could do it. I was fully aware before I booked my trip that there would be construction going on at the resort, but I booked it anyway, and was thankful that I am able to stay on Disney property with all the added perks. I'm saying that at the very least you should be thankful for that too.

A few days of inconvenience shouldn't matter to you -- there are more important things going on in the world that you need to be worried about. This is not one of them. We should be thankful that we even have a nice place to stay during our holidays in what is supposed to be the Happiest Place on Earth.

Privilege would be getting a free trip. Enjoying the resort at no cost to myself.
It's not a privilege to pay Disney thousands upon thousands, to get less than I paid for.
Privilege is having the opportunity to be ABLE to go to Disney. I paid for a service, with a certain expectation and no reason to believe that expectation wouldn't be met within reason.

For those thousands and thousands of dollars, you could have gone to the South of France, or on a 10-day cruise to the southern Caribbean. Just sayin'.

Yep. Exactly the point. I made the choice to stay here based on the amenities available. Those amenities are no longer available and that is unfair to the people who have spent a lot of hard earned money here.

I was not made fully aware of the magnitude of the construction before I booked and therefore, my booking this resort was done w/o such knowledge. BTW, when exactly are you going again ?

Got this in my email this morning for our late April stay

We are delighted you have chosen to stay at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort!

In an effort to continually improve the Guest experience, we often refresh our offerings and atmosphere. In preparation of your upcoming stay, we would like to make you aware of Resort refurbishment work that will be taking place during your visit.

Upon your arrival, you will notice construction work in various areas as we enhance our Resort. Noise may be heard while this work is being completed and certain pathways may be unavailable.

Additionally, Old Port Royale Food Court, Shutters at Old Port Royale, Banana Cabana Pool Bar and Calypso Trading Post will be closed for refurbishment during your stay. While we work our magic, there will be a variety of dining options available to you for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Centertown will serve breakfast and dinner and a selection of grab-and-go meals will be conveniently available for purchase in three island markets located in the Aruba, Jamaica and Martinique regions of the Resort.

We apologize for any inconvenience this work may cause and appreciate your patience. If you have questions or need assistance with your reservation, please contact your original booking agent.
well shoot..........
