Resort Thread Disney's CARIBBEAN BEACH Resort

I also saw the mugs for sale in the Martinique grab & go location that soft opened today. Pictures on twitter from wdw news today
ooo thank you..I need to see if I can find the pics..just a bummer we are in Trinidad South we are not close to a grab and go..oh well

What are the chances the Freestyle machines will remain after the refurb, thereby eliminating the long walk for some Guests to the Food Court?

The one at Trinidad South is going to be permanent. Since they're removing all of Barbados, none of the rooms will be more than a 6 minute walk to OPR. So I don't see any of the other machines remaining.

The fact that the construction necessitates these "island markets" actually makes me kind of glad to be there during construction strangely enough. I was unsure about staying at CBR because of its size and the long walk to get food/drink didn't exactly appeal.

I just got back from our stay at CBR. I received a text message before even getting on my plane that our room was ready. Our room was 2nd floor, which was disappointing since I had requested ground floor. And running 22 miles this weekend I didn't feel like walking up stairs. (And it would prove to be challenging with my stress fracture I figured.) Upon arrival we went to the online check in desk and asked if a ground floor room was available. She called and offered us Martinique Building 23, room 2327. (vs Martinique 24 2436) We gladly took that room in exchange for a refund in the difference between preferred and this room. So we got a nice credit on our room to use for the week. (Our options were that or to have it refunded to our card.) 2327 did have a Murphy bed and was a handicap room, but still had the full tub/shower combo. The bathroom was all room vs. the tub/toilet having it's own door. The walk to OPR wasn't bad and the bus stop was super close and convenient. We were on the courtyard/smoking area and I only saw someone smoking in it once late at night so that was nice. The second day we had a ton of small, gnat type bugs in our room. At first we thought it was a fluke and mousekeeping had propped the door open, but there seemed to be more in the morning and they all congregated in the bathroom. We called and they said they would send pest control, but they were still a problem the whole trip. Normally I would have walked up to the front desk about it, but honestly it was a pain to get to the customs house so I didn't.

I have to say that OPR annoyed me. We would come back from the parks and couldn't refill our mugs or something because it was closed. I have no clue what time it even closed as the hours posted only say when it opens. I found this inconvenient.

Running wise, the buses seemed to have their staging area or start from Martinique so we always had a bus waiting for us when we walked out which was a nice perk as some stops had huge crowds and we always walked right on a bus and normally sat in the front row.

I'm not sure I'd stay again, but maybe with construction they'll remedy the lack of ability to refill your mugs unless OPR is open. The resort is really beautiful and relaxing so if that could be fixed it would be considered for a family stay.

Thank you very much for your sharing your impressions!

Yes, I received the $75/night refund back in February and the $75/night gift card at check-in. Both discounts made our 7 night stay under $100!!! :):):)
If you don't mind sharing - are you booked with a TA? From the United States? Glad you have both the refund and gc while curious why I didn't receive both. Thank you!

Thank you for the information! This is making me very nervous about foot traffic and noise. I am reading this as the "island markets" are in a room. My two children need to nap during the day and we will be asleep on our "off" days after 7am and every night prior to 10pm! Sleep is essential and my family has light sleepers! Thoughts? Suggestions? This is our second Disney trip ever and first to CBR.

You would've had to call in to Disney within the first 2-3 days after the construction was announced and everything was a big mess.
At first Disney was offering no compensation. Then they offered some people 75/night credited to them, but only those who took the time (usually around 2 hours on hold) to call in.
Then they offered everyone with a trip booked there 25/night gift cards. Which people weren't impressed with so they bumped that up to 75.
So people who called and got the discounted room rate for the construction also got the gift card offer.

The Island Markets are going to be off the path that goes around the lake. Everyone would have to walk the same way to get to OPR and the Main Feature Pool anyway so there will be zero increase in foot traffic.

Have you ever tried ear plugs? They are life savers, not just at Disney but in general for light sleepers.

i think Abbey is correct that the grab and go locations may increase foot traffic to surrounding rooms. Previous post includes details that rooms in Martinique (2509), Jamaica (4308) & Aruba (5524) have been converted and photo shows it truly was a guest room before.

If the noise would put a big damper on your vacation, I would probably request a different building than those, have noted on reservation and then probably do check-in in person (with rooms numbers noted in front of me for reference) and if given a room too close, request to be moved.

I think there also may be some food truck types added and those most likely would be along pathways but grab and go are definitely in former guest rooms.

I'm really surprised they are using rooms for the Island Markets-I was expecting "tents".

If you don't have one you might want to invest in a travel white noise machine. They help a lot; especially with little ones.

I have similar concerns and had planned to do something similar. I was going to have my TA make only 1 request of "quiet" or something along those lines, and check in in person, so if I didn't like what they assigned I could see what my other options might be. Taking along the list of rooms would also be good!

Wow. That's a change from their original plans. I have not seen the posts you mentioned, are they in this thread or another?

Hmmmm interesting! My family is super easy going so those will do but they look a little lacking in selection! Staying at CBR in the past we have never actually eaten in there food court....we just go and pick up/refill our cups. I much prefer POR and CSR food courts and we don't mind driving over for meals elsewhere!
