Yikes...I just realized, is the playground out of commission while they work on the bridge?? The whole reason we booked CBR was because our daughter has sensory issues, and just needs to leave the parks and play at points. Should I call Disney or is this really the case :(

Oh gosh... I didn't even think about that... I guess I assumed it would be open from the other side?
Anyone able to expand on this that has just been or is there now????

My DH doesn't like vacations, period, unless they involve diving and even those he will only take about every other year. DS (my son not his) and I love to travel. We go, he stays home and has time alone which he loves, we have vacation which we love. Win, win. DS is now grown so I take a lot of solo trips, again win, win.

It's my understanding that the island (and playground) are still accessible from the other side. :)

Thank you! This relieves me ALOT! The email I got from disney has both sides and the whole island blocked off with lines, marking them as unaccessible.

I just looked and it has both sides down. So I called... Guest services told me it wasn't available to use- that both sides and the playground isn't accessible??? But, can you really trust they know what they are talking about????

It's a bit strange, isn't it? I know someone reported being able to access the island from the Old Port Royale side just over a week ago. I hope the map that Disney emailed us is wrong, and that the one side remains accessible!!!

Maybe someone that is there now can confirm this for sure???
All of these issues is making me have a sour taste in my mouth even before I arrive... Which I hate!
I have waited a long time for this trip!!!

The playground part was open when we were there just over a week ago, but they did say that they would close it down at some point so I'm not surprised if this has been closed now.

Ok... I need to vent!
Why am I so upset about this refurbishments???
I was all worked up 2 weeks ago when I learned of the bridge closing but came to terms with it and started feeling better that they are trying their best to accommodate guests by having the extra buses/boat taxis...
But tonight when I learned of the splash pad kid playground closing... Ugh!
I was on the phone for over an hour- 3 people later they finally confirmed that it is indeed closed and will be for 3 weeks... My entire stay.
What other resorts have kid pool type areas besides CBR???
My toddler loves the splash pad at AOA. Looking around online, it looks like Contemporary has one too, but I'm not sure about that one.

That bridge was there for years, if it failed compliance it wouldn't have been allowed to pass inspection when it was built.

I feel like it was a rather steep incline (I could be wrong its been a year since I've been on it) so maybe they wanted to lessen that for wheelchairs. But I think they could have had a viable replacement put in place before closing this time.

Put up a "dock with railings" to the island and replace the bridge, none of this extra shuttles and pontoon boat across the lake.

I've noticed that the bridge needed some work on our last few trips. Some timbers seemed pretty rotten.

The incline is needed to allow clearance for boats passing under.

The floating dock idea will definitely get in the way of the boats. I used to think the boats were just watching the rental boats but they seemed to keep going after the boats were gone.

Maybe they're keeping a watch on the shore to make sure nobody's going into the water? Whatever the reason, it seems the boats need to go up and down the lake.

The bridge refurbishment is also listed on the site that I write for: http://*******************.com/wdwrefurbishments/

There are 3 other playgrounds on the beaches.
