Resort Thread Disney's BOARDWALK INN Resort

How often did/do you use your balcony? We are going to TRY and be more relaxed this trip with no doing rope drop and either getting Breakfast the night before or doing a Mobile Order and I run down to get it then make coffee in the room and enjoy breakfast on the balcony. DH said he dreads starting the day "standing in line to get breakfast" (henceforth getting it the night before) and then the rush-rush up and out to get to rope drop and stand around until that "time comes". DS is 16 and I honestly think the way DH talks and dislikes crowds more and more that this might be our last "family" trip to WDW. As sad as that makes me this trip was planned in 2018, booked in 2019 for 2020 (didn't happen) then rescheduled from 2021. I might be with DH with wanting to sit on the balcony myself early morning and later evening to savory every relaxing moment! So I just wondered how many others enjoy their balconies while on vacation?

I would spend time every day out on the balcony. We generally did rope drop in the mornings, came back for an afternoon break, then went out again. During breaks and in the evening, the balcony was a great place to be. I loved watching the boats arrive and depart. It's absolutely lovely at night when everything is lit up as well.

Since there are no dedicated 2 BR at BWV, the Standard view 2 BR are gone the minute the Standard view studios are gone. For May 2022 you probably have a chance, but your friend should plan to book the day your 7 month window opens. If I were you, I'd be prepared to pay for a Garden/Pool view just in case - they book up much less quickly. Or, as you say, find a private party who owns BWV to rent from - the Rent/Trade board here on DISboards is a good place to look.
Unfortunately, we wont be renting points from him this time as he is using them for Hawaii. So just wondering if we find someone else to rent from around the 11 th month mark if we had a shot of getting a 2 bedroom. Would prefer standard for fewer points.

Every day! We love just sitting and relaxing on it. From morning coffee to an afternoon/evening drink.

We’re very much balcony dwellers. My kids are younger (10 & 6) - that’s the only time DW and I can escape! :-)

Have spent a lot more time on balconies since COVID given more dining in the room from mobile/To Go ordering, but even pre-COVID they were an important part of our hotel stays!

All.The.Time

Seriously, we bought into DVC @ BWV more than 20 years ago because of those Boardwalk View balconies! If we’re in the room I’m usually on the balcony unless I’m sleeping 😊

If May 2022 demand is consistent with previous years, you do have a chance, but you need to line up an owner who will book for you the day the 11 month window opens this coming June. There are very few Standard view 2BR, and they go very quickly all year round.

Our style has changed over the years from rope-drop-to-park-close people to the point now where (except for trying to ROTR on HS day) we don't even set an alarm clock. The balcony is key to this new style. Coffee, reading, watching whatever you can see from it, waiting for everyone to finish getting ready...

My favorite balcony activity--sitting there and watching it rain.

Has anyone determined if the quiet pool on the Inn side is available for use despite the Inn being closed? At YC/BC, the BC quiet pool is available and accessible--hoping the same for BW. :thumbsup2

Thats kind of what I thought. Thanks!!

What sort of blankets do they have in the rooms at BWI? We like comforters and don't sleep well with just a light blanket. Can you ask for extra blankets/comforters?

Good question, would like to know also!

When we were at BWV in December they had the sheet-blanket-sheet sandwich on the beds, and we were very comfortable. We like to sleep with the room cool and blankets warm. BWI will likely be similar, but in any case, yes, just call Housekeeping and ask for extra blankets if you need them.

There are no comforters.

As @CarolynFH posted above Disney is now using a sheet sandwich over a light blanket on each bed. Again as @CarolynFH posted above more blankets are only a phone call away using your in-room phone.

No reports that I have seen where the quiet pool is open at BWI. The quiet pool at the BC makes sense to be open due to the BCVs being open.

Still waiting for any reports before July 2 when BWI is scheduled to open.

Do they still allow day guests during Covid times? We're staying at BWV and my dad plans to drive over from the Tampa area one day to visit us. Will the security guard give him a hard time if he explains why he's there and gives our name?

Out of curiosity, was anyone able to get reservations at BWI for a multi-night stay over October 1st when it reopened for booking? I looked the same day it became available and found nothing except a one-night stay. I was surprised it went that fast.

I did some searching of various things the day after it became available (not just October, various times through the year)... to me some of the results seemed suspiciously lacking in availability.

I did a search on the day BWI became available. I saw a King Bed available. That was it.

No, I haven't seen any reports either, but given the location--I'm not sure how many would even realize it is there. I know when we have stayed many times over the years--we would more often than not have the pool to ourselves or share it with another couple or two. We prefer the quiet and lack of activity there.

I'm not sure what the difference would be between the BC leisure pool and the BWI leisure pool. The entirety of BC is wide open and you can freely walk through its corridors, etc. despite it being physically closed. The leisure pool is pretty far removed from the BCV--just as is so at BWI/BWV. Theoretically, the BC leisure pool could be closed as well since the resort side is closed and the DVC end has its own leisure pool, but it isn't. Really hoping the same is the case with BWI despite the lack of reporting on it being so. We love that pool!
