Disney's BIG New Year's Eve Announcement?

Just saw the ad, and during it they talk about the free day and all at stuff. Then at the very end it says "Stay tuned for a major announcement from Disney Parks". Could it be that there is still more to come? What else can they DIS...appoint us with?

Jeez, I sure hope there IS something else. Seems like just the few posters on this thread could've come up with something better than what they've given us so far tonight. ;)

Disney plans to celebrate leap year by keeping two of its theme parks open for 24 hours straight.

The Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World near Orlando, Fla., and Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., will open at 6 a.m. local time on Feb. 29 and remain open until 6 a.m. March 1.

I can't believe Disney is honoring my birthday by keeping the park open for 24 hours! :)
I wonder if you get a special button if it's your Birthday

Isn't the 29th a Wednesday? Hard to plan even a long weekend for that.

What a waste.

I do find it funny that MK has an extra magic morning on the 1st. So, the park closes at 6AM on the 1st and reopens 2 hours later at 8am :rotfl2:. I wonder how empty the park will be on the 1st?

Still waiting for the big announcement that the ad on TV talked about. I have a funny feeling that the "Stay tuned for a big announcement from Disney Parks" that aired at the end of the One More Disney Day ad on tv was a mistake. I really would have liked an opening day announcement for Carsland so I can start planning my summer trip. I looked into visiting either Disneyland or Disneyworld for a short 2 or 3 day trip for this. Doubt it will happen, but it will not cost me as much as I was thinking it would. Will really have to think hard about this. I would love to say I was in the parks for 24 hours, but I don't know if its worth the money.

Posted this in anouther thread to but wanted to reply here too.

This is something DH and I talked about before. They should keep at least one park open 24 hrs everyday especially in the peak times. They can alternate every day what park stays open all night so people can enjoy a park no matter what time they stay up till or what time they get up in the morning. Whenever we are on vacation we are really early riser like around 3am and would love to be able to go to the parks that early. Nothing starts moving until around 6:30am. We are usually in bed by 8pm so maximizing our awake time would be great. Remember some people are up all nighters and others are early risers. It would be great if Disney worked something out for us. Come on DTD stays open late but what about us early risers? We have to wait until 9am until things start movin. :goodvibes

Might have been more impressed if they were giving a package away every day for the year not just two months

Just looked at the rules, I cant enter as I am not in the US, excluded form a disney promotion for another year... perhaps they dont want my money any more

Well, we won't be in the park that day so that part doesn't do anything for us. (but we could help Webmaster Alex celebrate his :cake: )

I'll be entering the sweepstakes daily though.

I sense a rant coming on this one....

Disney is really starting to look bad with these overhyped announcements that leave the fan community saying "so what??"

Is it because they've done better things in the past and we're expecting too much? What kind of announcement would really make us us go "WOW how cool is this!!"

I loved "Give a Day, get a day", I thought it was a fantastic promo and I wish they had made it permanent. Rewarding people for helping others was a great thing.

24 Hour Leap Day though a "never before" is really not all that exciting. As On PP said it is a Wed-Thur. So people are not even going to be able to make it a quickie weekend thing if they have to travel in from outside the local area or were not already at WDW. At this point unless you have great fexibility in your job, or are in a place in your life where you don't need to work, you are not going to suddenly book a trip to be there for Leap Day. It's an announcement that might sound good on paper but for the majority of loyal Disney fans is abosolutely nothing.

What would make us say WOW? I don't know if I would have said "WOW!" since I am not sure I will be able to make it to WDW this year, but I really thought the announcement for one "free" day was going to be for more than a two week period. Really Two weeks? Again underwhelming. I thought with all the "One More Day" Hype (that Disney is so good at making and so poor at following through on) that it would be "get one free day at a WDW resort for every X days you stay with us" "If you book a package you will get one free day added to your resort stay and one free (ticket) day to enjoy the Magic of the Parks." Heck they could do away with most other promo codes in lieu of this and keep most people heading to WDW fan or newbie, feeling like they were getting a deal and likely make more in what the people spend in that one day than they would loose by offering it. That would have been far less underwhelming and a waste of time and hype t han what they just announced.

The Give a Day was a great Promo but I remember there were a lot of complaints about it here on the boards of people just getting organizations to sign off onthe day rather than actually putting in a day of work, of the vouchers running out well before the promo was over, and of opportunities not being available in many areas (ie there were none in my area for a 60-100 mile radius), and then of organizations being listed as available but not responding to those who did want to volunteer. Like I said it was a great promo but of course, Disney can't make everyone happy. And even with all the complaints that I read here on the boards based on the things I mentioned, I still thought it was a great idea and a worthwhile one at that. This new overhyped announcement just fell like a souffle taken out of the oven too soon. PHSSST flop.:rolleyes1

I can't believe people aren't more excited that Disney opened both parks for 24 hours JUST to celebrate MY Birthday!!!

We might be more excited if you were actually going to be in the park to celebrate your birthday. :rolleyes1

The fact that it's Leap Day is maybe a "never before", but them being open 24 hours is certainly not the first time (at least for Disneyland). When Captain Eo premiered at Disneyland, they just never closed the park overnight. I'm pretty sure they started running it at midnight or something like that. We arrived the day before, and it was one of those stand in line for HOURS things, where one person would stand in line while the others went & did rides, and then they'd come back & switch off. Everyone was doing it, so no-one cared. But we were there well over 24 hours that day/night/day. But I was MUCH younger then. :confused3 I really don't think I could do 24 hours now if I tried.

Sayhello

do they ever stay open very late for grad nights? i seem to remember something about that last time we visited disneyland (many moons ago)...

With EMH summer hours, you could be in the parks as late as 1-2am. So we're supposed to go crazy over a single day with a few more hours tacked on? Wow.
