Hello Everyone,

My girlfriend and I are heading down to Disney this upcoming June. We absolutely love Mexican food and we are looking for dinner. Last year we had dinner at San Angel Inn and loved it, and thought about going again this year. Although...we were looking at the latest reviews and it seems like some people haven't been too satisfied as of late. We thought about La Hacienda de San Angel instead, but not sure because they also have mixed reviews.

Which Mexican restaurant in Disney does everyone recommend?

Thanks!

We ate at San Angel Inn in November and it was the best meal we had the entire vacation. I haven't eaten at the other place but we will definitely go back here.

Contrary to some reviews, we love the Mexican restaurant at Coronado Springs Resort!

We love San Angel Inn! Maya Grill is good as well, though it tends to be hit and miss on the taste factor.

I've learned to take reviews about restaurants with a grain of salt. When I see a review that simply states, "worst food I ever had," or "we got food poisoning" from such and such place I pass them off. When I read a review where someone posts well stated reasons for liking or disliking, then I pay some attention to it. When it is all said and done what one person loves another may hate. I look at the menu and the theme of the restaurant and then form my opinion from experience.

With that said, I personally enjoy San Angel Inn. I will admit, I was hesitant to try this place over the years because of reviews. When I finally did I was very surprised with how much we enjoyed it. The atmosphere is awesome, we had great service, and the food was a nice change of pace from the typical local Mexican restaurants found in any city. San Angel Inn is just not a burrito, taco, enchilada restaurant like most are. My only real complaint I would have is I do feel the tables are just a little too close. But then that seems to be a common problem with many restaurants in Disney and perhaps one I can understand. :)

We were thrilled with our meal at San Angel Inn. We went for lunch, which wasn't very busy. Sitting there and watching the boats go by with that setting was awesome. The only reason we aren't going back this summer is that there are too many new places to try.

We have eaten at both restaurants in Mexico and enjoyed them both. We love the ambiance at the Inn and we always ask (and wait) for a waterside table and we love to watch Illuminations at La Hacienda.

I have tried to like San Angel Inn. I just can't. I have tried on several occasions. While the ambiance is nice, the service was deplorable and the food was not very good.

On our last visit:
We were seated and it took 15 minutes for a server to come to our table, only after we got up to leave. We gave our drink order and our appetizer order. A short while later we gave our entree order. No drinks came for a long time but eventually arrived after an additional wait. As it was hot out, we needed refills pretty quickly. Our server never came back to refill the drinks at all. Our entrees came out-- before the appetizer! My entree was not warm, though it should have been and was poorly presented. My DS's entree wasn't prepared with an item left off as we requested. My Mom didn't care for her food at all. We never saw our server again until we were presented with the bill. We asked to speak to the manager, who "graciously" took the appetizer off the bill-- (**we never received the appetizer-of course we wern't paying for it!**). All this and the restaurant wasn't even busy. Really Sub Par-- from the waitstaff to the manager.

After 3 tries, over several years, I will never go back and never recommend it to anyone.

I picked San Angel Inn! The food is good but the decor is great!

We like the food and atmosphere much better at San Angel than La Hacienda, but I actually prefer the food at Paradiso 37 to either of those you mentioned.

There's always the option of a liquid dinner at La Cava. :rolleyes1

(OK - maybe some chips and guac too.) ;)

Just a heads up, all of the restaurants in the Mexican pavilion and at Coronado are owned by the same company so experience shouldn't be too much different. I've only eaten at La Hacienda but thought it was so good.

Thanks everyone for all the responses! We ended up booking a spot at La Hacienda de San Angel...but might end up changing it to San Angel. We would love to try something new but those fish tacos and tostadas at San Angel were pretty awesome. Not sure if I mentioned this before, but last time we went to San Angel we both ordered the "Traditional Mexican Dinner - Tostadas de Tinga, Tacos de Pescado, Crema Bavaria with a soft drink or iced tea." But we are still torn on what to do. :confused3

Please continue to add to this post; you guys are great!

St. Angel has become one of the best lunch meals in
WDW over the past 4 years for us. We recommend ordering the chef's special or the 3 course lunch. DDIL has a gluten allergy and her meal was awesome. The servers are attentive and accommodating and ready to answer any question about the menu. The cocktails are so refreshing. DH and I are going to do their after-hours food/tequila event next trip. :goodvibes

We choose San Angel Inn every time. Love the menu a lot more, food is delicious, love the atmosphere, love the ride, love the tequila bar while waiting. Now that I think about it, besides the food-thing, our choice has so much to do with San Angel has more of the 'Disney feel', the 'magical' feel that we come so far to enjoy. Know what I mean?

Have a great time wherever you go, shawnriv!

Loved, loved, loved Maya Grill, although we haven't been back in a few years.

We enjoyed the pyramid restaurant for ambiance - food wasn't too great.
Never ate at "the other" Mexican restaurant, even though the menu appealed. With kids, we just really wanted to sit in the "moonlit café" ambiance.

In a similar vein, we also like Shutters (even though Caribbean is clearly not Mexican) and Bongo's (also not Mexican) - Paradiso is OK.

This mirrors our last visit for lunch. Our server was incredulous that we did not order Margaritas at our 11:30 lunch and was disdainful toward us when we drank only water and ice tea. To the point where she literally threw our plates of food down on the table with an audible thud from the plates and a 'hurump' from her. Worst Disney service of all time. As for the food--dark meat, dark sauce, black beans and a dimly lit atmosphere resulted in a plate that looked like monochromatic slop. Couldn't tell what I was eating from bite to bite and didn't really care. None of it was very good. I kept my comments and opinions to myself and yet both my wife and daughter expressed unprompted comments that each was very dissatisfied with their meals. Crossed this off our list.

We ate at SAI today and the food was pretty good and the service was just OK. I was also bummed they no longer offer the avocado margarita on the menu. For the PP who said they were planning the after hours event, that isn't offered right now. Maybe they will bring it back?
