Disney's ART OF ANIMATION RESORT Thread

1) I'm turning 20, but I'll be 19 when I check in, do I pass the minimum age required to get my own room?

2) Do I get any perks since it is my birthday? My best friend wanted to know what he could do, like sending a cake or getting my favorite character to call or something.

3) If I have a Disney Visa (the blue one with the castle), do I get any perks or discounts?

4) I've been to Disney World before, but I have never stayed at a Disney resort, anything I shuold know?

5) What is the best place to book my room and tickets? Is it Disney World's main Website?

6) Do you recommend using their complementary transportation to and from the airport (since im booking my plane through their website), or shuold I book my own seperate shuttle?

7) If I also wanted to Visit Universal Studious, what would be the best method of transportation?

8) I'm blowing pretty much most of the money that I've saved, and it took a while to save it up. Anything I shuold to keep my enjoyment level at max?
:simba:

To answer your questions...
1) I think the minimum age is 18, call to double check!!
2) Yes and yes. Stop by guest services in any park and you can get a free birthday pin. Wear it and tons of cast members will wish you happy birthday. Always let cast members know you are celebrating your birthday if they ask "Are you celebrating anything special this trip?". Your friend can order a special cake, flowers, etc. through https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/celebrations/customizations
3) Yes
https://disneyrewards.com/vacation-perks/
4) Free transportation to and from airport, theme parks, water parks and Downtown Disney, extra magic hours, option to add a dining plan to your room and ticket package...to name a few.
5) I always book on Disney's website. Make sure you look under the special offers tab to see if you are eligible for a discount of any kind during your stay.
6) Use the Magical Express! It's free! Enough said! :)
7) Can't speak from experience but I would assume a taxi. I don't think you can rent a car unless you are 25.
8) Have a magical trip! Don't think of the money you are spending just the memories you are making!
Hope this helps!

7). If it is only one or two of you I would look into the Mears shuttle. I think it is $19/pp. A taxi will be about $35 each way, but that could be up to 6 people. So if you have people to split the taxi fare it is cheaper, but if not, the Mears shuttle is cheaper. I've also seen stuff about a package that includes tickets and transportation. Tickets to both parks and a shuttle. I'm not sure who offers this, but I have read that it works quite well.

Wait, I'm confused. If it was sold out and you didn't get an upgrade, did you stay in a LM room?

Yes, we had booked a LM room and that is what we got. I was just referring tot he other poster who said she was hoping for an upgrade since we were in the same boat (and had secretly hoped maybe there was a chance of an upgrade too), but we didn't get one. But we had a great time in the LM room.

Any good resort tips ???

The food court was CROWDED and CHAOTIC in the evening. We ate there 2 times between the time of 6 and 9pm and then I told my husband that I just couldn't do it again, I refused to step foot in there in the evening. I can't really compare this to other hotel food courts because this is the first time we have ever used one for dinner, but each time it took forever if you wanted to go to more than one of the stations (your food will definitely get cold while you wait). And the stations that have the burgers and the pizza take sooooo long it is ridiculous. We had one incident where it literally took so long (and I wasn't even complaining) and the manager came out and offered to comp my meal...but I had already pre-paid while I was waiting for the food to come so they gave me some cupcakes instead. But I would never go in there in the evening again.

Breakfast at 6:30-7:30 was not crowded at all (the parks opened at 9). The French Toast was terrible, but the Egg White Frittata was really delicious, and the omelette station was great.

Don't forget to bring towels from your room for the pool! We kept forgetting and had to walk back to our room wet twice.

And pay attention to where the freezer is in the fridge. I didn't even see the freezer section in the middle and shoved all our food in. DS asked for cottage cheese in the morning and I took it out and it was all frozen along with a bunch of other food

We also tried the trick of taking the POP bus back when there was no AoA bus (since we were in LM). We found the walk way longer and wished we had just waited for the AoA bus.

But all in all we thought the resort was very cute, every section was so well themed, DS really loved all the pools and the cast members were all really nice.

ETA: I wanted to add in that the busses were great. They came quickly, we never waited more than 20 minutes and we never had a problem- 2 thumbs up!

Uccats97 Dreams Unlimited Travel (owners of these forums) sell a decently priced one day Universal ticket that includes bus transportation from your Disney resort. You should check that out.

I know I read the outdoor movies at AofA are somewhere near the LK section, but does anyone know where?

Are they shown every night?

Anyone know roughly what times?

According to the October activities for AoA, movies are shown every night at 8pm on the Big Blue Pool Deck, with a rain location inside at the airline check-in room.

Every night, and it is basically right off the main walkway (and into the walkway) which created some traffic problems, and if you don't get there early you will have a view of everyone walking by in front of you. I can't remember when they were 8 or 9, they can tell you at check in.

Correct. And you cannot hear the movie over a crowded pool. I wish it was still in the Lion King area.

Just for future reference. They have towels at the front desk. You just have to ask for them. :-)

Thanks - will check again in a couple of weeks.

I was finally able to get my FASTPASS+ selections done for the family yesterday (for December arrival)
There are some technical issues (like changing FASTPASS+ ride times shows both the original and updated times on MDE itenarary, and disney tech support said they're aware of it and to just ignore it.)

If I need to ship something from amazon, do I use the address on the first page of this thread?
