Does anyone know what size the beds will be in the mermaid rooms ? Also what sizes will the rooms be about ? Thanks :)

Woo Hoo! I just found out from Disney that the AoA resort is finishing up faster than they thought and the Little Mermaid wing will now open on Sept., 15th rather than Dec., 31st. :woohoo: I'm so excited about this as this is where we really hoped to stay, (but couldn't), but now that I've been looking at the POP photos and reading everyone on POP's thread (who all seem so nice), I'm a little in a quandary. We have a big decision to make.

I am so confused...how have all of you booked AoA when this disney blog says can't be booked til tomorrow???
what changes tomorrow?
(BTW i called WDW and they WONT let me book AoA for this fall --WDW told me it wont be open til Dec...who should i believe about mermaid open date ? the CM at WDW over phone at WDW INFO or the disney blog?)

Seems like everyone is a bit confused on this. I am not 100% sure about this but that is what I believe it is. When you are booking online for AOA, you can only book suites. However, from the new post that says LM section will open in September and booking begins tomorrow, I believe this is for online. I will be checking tomorrow just to be sure. Also, when you call Disney about AOA, I do not think you can actually book your rooms with a package yet but I believe you can just reserve them. Here is what Ames389 had to say about this:

"I was able to book a trip yesterdayffor an arrival date of January 23, 2013. I called and made the reservation over the phone using the 1-407-WDISNEY phone number. They wouldn't allow me to book a package yet, just the room. I was told to call back in June and add the tickets and dining to complete the package. He told me the glitch was just the way computer system worked. No matter what though...we have a room"

Either way, I am sure you can find out tomorrow if you can book online for the LM section or if you will have to call 1-407-WDISNEY. Hope this helps

You can book any room at AoA for any date beyond Dec 31st but no more than 499 days now. You can book room only. As of tomorrow, you will be able to book any room at AoA starting with the new opening date of Sept 15. You will be able to book a package for those dates. Hope that helps.

You should be able to book a package through 31 December. It has nothing to do with the resort, but rather with the dates. The person you quoted isn't going until January of next year. Until next years rates are released (sometime between June and August), no one can book a package past 31 December, but you can book a room only. That should not affect booking packages from now until the end of this year, as those rates have already been entered into the systems and been made public.

I really want to book a family suite at AoA, but can't justify the expense with only 3 in my family. It will cost much less to book a standard moderate room.

I'm really excited too. I would love to stay at this new resort :). I will say that we stayed at POP in 2010 and loved it!!!

Yes, I can't believe how excited I am; I feel like a little kid jumping up and down. Do you have a trip coming up? If it's after 9/15, by all means book for the Little Mermaid. I already talked to one of my friends and she has voted for AoA! I think POP is gong to wait until Sept. 2013! How often do you get to stay at a brand new resort? It's too good to pass up.

Will the Little Mermaid rooms at Art of Animation be eligible for free dining if I call tomorrow?

It would be very nice to stay at AoA and get FD, but I'm pretty sure that 'Runner' is correct. They have FD now through Sept. and even though the AoA is partially opening in May with others wings to follow in the FD period, it is NOT in the FD offer.

This is a very good question. I actually inquired about this on the Disney Parks Blog, but I haven't received a reponse. If you decide to call them, please report back with what they tell you. I know that none of the suites were included in the FD offer for Aug./ Sept. FD, but the standard rooms were not supposed to even be available until Dec., so maybe they didn't mention them because they did not think they would need to offer them when the deal originally came out.

I have heard that the first year that ASMu opened its suites that they were not included in FD offers, but does anyone know if the regular rooms there were included???

We're looking at going October 1st for a few days. We're around a 5 hour drive so not too bad. My DD's birthday is October 2nd, so it'll be a birthday celebration for her ;).

Smidgy! -- You are a genius!!will you send nebo a message, telling him that? :rotfl: He loves sports, and he'll watch anything. There is bound to be something going on while we are there he would enjoy -- as long as it's not a cheerleading competition :rotfl2: I'll have to look into it, it would be great for him to spend a day over there. And you are right, the resorts are a great place to just hang out.

People think we're crazy when we say he doesn't like the Parks, but my BIL is the same way -- and my BIL won't even ride any rides :confused3 When I look at it that way, at least when my dh goes in the Parks he will do something :thumbsup2

I agree, I could amuse myself without entering the theme Parks for quite awhile. Pool time, DTD, exploring other resorts, water parks, mini-golf, there are a lot of fun ways to spend your time. :lovestruc

Maria :upsidedow

not sure if we are talking about the same thing. but either way is a good idea. espn is a bar with tons of tv screens at the Boardwalk.. and they serve burgers, wings, nachos, etc.
they have various sports events on the many tvs 9whatever is telecasted at that time) and if you get a table with your own tv, you can switch around the channels.
and maybe you could meet u p with him later..like at jelly rolls (piano bar must be 21) if you have no car, you need to take a bus to DHS an then a boat. if you are past the DHS closing time, then you need to take a bus to DTD.
the other sports place is Wide World of Sports. which I know nothing about. well , except they sometimes have some spring training there? and that's where teams compete for pop wraner, and soccer tournaments, (and yes, cheer tournaments) I do believe they have a counter service place to eat, and drinks, ie. beer, etc.
we have never been there, it is on the corner of Victory way and Osceola Parkway (when staying at pop, you go south on victory way. then turn right to go to AK. WWS is on the SE corner) bit I read recently where you can take a bus to DHS, and pick up a bus to WWS.

My family agrees with both of you. We tell people all the time, we can go to Disney and not step foot into a park. They think we're crazy. Maria, as you mentioned, those are the things we do, too. I'll be going down for the TOT run and thought momentarialy about swithing to AoA. The thought vanished quickly, as AoA is not a host resort. And the few extra dollars over a few days adds up. My sister and I are trying to get there, as cheap as possible.

:thumbsup2between the beautiful resorts, pools, great resort restaurants, downtown disney restaurants (and a few clubs left), the Boardwalk,( with Jelly rolls, a brewery, espn club, atlantic dance hall, karaokee at the swan, entertainers, a few restaurants.) plus 2 mini golfs. 2 water parks. and dtd is opening a bowling alley.

there is tons to do and enjoy without even going in a park!

I just wanted to say that when AKL first opened, we were able to get discounts in those first few months. As a matter of fact, we were offered a Savannah view stay for the weekend of the "official" grand opening (which was quite a while after it had actually opened), for $200 a night for a Bunk bed room. It was an amazing weekend - with performers from Lion King on Broadway and local choirs singing african music and some of the Lion King tunes. So new hotels definately get discounts.

It seems like it's the suites that will keep AOA from the discounts, not so much that it's new. The all-star suites were often excluded from discounts in the past, correct? Although I never quite understood why.....

Pop opened in Dec. 2003. We were able to use a discount rate there for our Easter 2004 and spring break 2005 trips.

Last summer\fall, DISers reported that they were able to book rooms at AOA with the free dining bounce back offer.

Any idea if it would be worth seeing if the pin I booked POP with would transfer over to the Little Mermaid rooms that are opening? Since they aren't giving discounts, I am guessing my pin I'm currently booked with wouldn't transfer over?

I'm interested in this as well, i just checked and the Little mermaid rooms are able to be booked for my October trip...now..wondering if i should bother with the phone call to see if the PIN would apply.
Also, according to the maps, it looks like the little mermaid rooms are the farthest from the main building :sad2: I'm currently booked at POP in a preferred room

I tried to enter my 30% off PIN for my Oct. trip online to check for AoA availability, but wouldn't you know it...it expired two days ago.:headache: So I had to call Disney and have them check. I anticipated a long hold time, but I got through immediately. A very nice CM checked the PIN for me and told me that AoA standard rooms were not showing up for availability with my PIN code and then I asked if they were now included in the current FD offer and she said they are not.

So it looks like there will likely be no discounts for AoA for now at least, but she advised me to keep an eye out for any late fall promotions to see if AoA will be included at that time.

So, if you have a PIN, feel free to call and have them check for you, but don't get your hopes up as it will most likely not work at AoA.:sad2:
