Disney's ANIMAL KINGDOM LODGE Information & Questions

Well, I'll be there in a few days so I will walk the property and figure out where each People Pen is located! It's a hard job, I know, but I'm up for the challenge! ;) I do know there's more than one! :flower3:
Thanks for taking one for the team!:cheer2:
There are a number of partial savanna views that are now classified as "standard view". They used to be "Savanna view" and WDW routinely received complaints -- Imagine if you paid for a savanna view and got one of those rooms. :(

Yes, I actually got one of those people pen views when paying for savanna view and complained, sigh.
On your jaunts could you please find out if Gordon, the adolescent male giraffe on Uzima, is in time out?

Quick question -- do standard club level rooms come with king beds as a possible configuration? Can I request this, and should I call directly to do this? Thanks, as I've learned recently a lot of the room view/types on various fan sites are outdated now for AKL.

I'm back! Loved Animal Kingdom resort and our room in Kidani! We had a deluxe studio savannah view on the 5th floor near the elevator! It was lovely! There were three adults and we felt it plenty spacious enough!! We saw lots and lots of animals!!

LOL I will check on Gordon and report back!!! :thumbsup2

(I have seen some of the adult giraffes displaying "bad behavior". I can only imagine the mischief an adolescent male can get into!! :rotfl:)

Glad you enjoyed!! I think at Kidani being close to the elevators makes a big difference.

Yeah, they do have a few King bed rooms as regular club level rooms. We requested it in our club stay in 2013 and got one. The thing about them, though, is that they're also the handicap accessible rooms, but they're not too different. They have handrails around the bathroom and in and around the tub, but it's still a tub and not a roll in. There is only a single sink in the bathroom, and you lose the bathroom wall mural, and there is enough space to hold a wheelchair. (So it's a bit of wasted space, but feels very spacious.) along with the king bed you get a couch/love seat, which was nice to have for in-room time. I'd rather sit on a couch watching tv then a second bed. The room we had was on zebra trail with a great view and great location near the first outer elevator down to the pool and Mara. :thumbsup2

Hope you don't mind, but I am going to jump right in here and share this giraffe story. Our zoo had a giraffe sent to it from the Animal Kingdom a year or two ago and after reading this about Gordon, I am wondering if it is him.... Our family was at the zoo one evening and there was a younger male giraffe trying his best to get the female giraffes' attention. He would stride over to each female in hopes of a little affection, but he was shot down every time! It was so funny to watch, he was very persistent. Probably one of those things you had to be there to really think it was funny.... but anyways, I also wanted to add that we will be at Jambo House June 19 - 27:cheer2:

Different giraffe - Gordon was on Uzima the first week of Jan.. I posted a video of Gordon a few pages back.
Thx RachelTori, misbehaving giraffes - mmm, the animal keepers did say giraffes were quite stubborn.

We check in on 2/19 and are hoping for one of the partial savanna view (or people pen view) rooms; we paid standard view (tight budget, but this AKL trip is probably the only time we'll be able to do deluxe), and I'm hoping for any view but a parking lot one! I know whatever room we get, I'll still be happy to be at AKL!

I'm sure it was quite funny seeing that scene in person, yet I think we can all picture it!! That had to be adorable!!! :goodvibes

Congrats on your upcoming stay! :thumbsup2

There are only a couple of "standard" view rooms I wouldn't want -- you will walk past them on your way to the bus stop! (They are on Giraffe Trail.) If you request Kudu or Zebra Trail, you will likely get a room you will be very happy in! ;)

You are almost there!:cool1: Have a magical trip!

Very excited for our first stay at AKL. We are doing CL and going April 30 - May 5, going down for DD's cheer competition. She can't actually compete because she is having spine surgery next month. We chose AKL as she will have limited ride ability still and if she's still getting tired easily, she can at least relax and watch the animals.
Any tips for room requests? It's myself, DH and DD 13. Do rooms have a fridge? Coffee maker? Can you take drinks and a snack from the Club lounge back to the room? Not sure what condition DD will be so I am trying to plan ahead.
Thinking of doing the night safari. Has anyone done it? Thoughts on it?
Any special things/places we should explore. DD will still be using a wheelchair but will also be walking.
Any tips, must do, must try, don't dos... would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

...absolutely! Personally, I'd request 'near elevator' for ease of access....
