Hey everyone! We are considering leaving WL this year and trying AKL. We'd like to do CL and were wondering if anyone has stayed CL recently who could help us out. Is it true there's a 'kids table' with food for them? Are all the main evening offerings African dishes? Can you tell me what some of the recent dishes were? Is there a section for the kids to watch tv and color like they do at the Lodge? How late is the lounge open? Can you get drinks past closing time? Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!

I'll be down there Jersey week, but just realized that on the calendar it says AKV...I'm currently at my Home resort SSR, but looking for something else at the 7 mos. mark. I'm sure we'll cross paths at some point.....WDW is a small world after all...LoL.

That would be fun! There's a couple other folks from Jersey staying at the AKL/AKV during Jersey week.............we're talking about making Jambo House..........Jersey House for the week!
No matter what happens it should be a great time to be at WDW...........this will be our first F&W festival.............my brothers first visit (with his family). Wondering if we'll have to dodge the Christmas parade taping too... Sould be a ton of fun!

Lets put it this way, As we get closer to the date & if there's no availability for BCV (During F&W--Yea right) or BLT (standard or Lake) then I'll shoot for our trusty ol Jambo....... Either way, we should have a drink @ Victoria Falls, while there....

We've been to 3 so far...It's such a festive atmosphere....We just try an avoid the craziness on a Saturday night if possible. Our kids have always loved visiting all the temporary lil kiosks/stands/countries, trying a whole lot of things they never would get to do.... Just talking w/ the CM's an hearing a lil about their culture n stuff...Kinda neat. I'm sure you're going to love it...

I can answer a few, but as PP noted, check the CL thread. There's not a 'kids table' per se, but there are plenty of things that kids will like throughout the day-various snacks (goldfish, pretzels, cookies, candy, etc.). During the evening, the main offerings are African inspired, but they're hardly exotic (for example, one of the offerings during our stay was butter turkey-your basic butter chicken, just with a different protein; another one was a lamb stew) There are also some mainstream cheeses, veggies, and the like. Honestly, if you are going to be eating in the AKL restaurants anyway, as we often were, there's nothing truly unique in CL that you won't find somewhere in either Jiko or Boma.

Yes, there is an area for the kids to watch tv.

Lounge is open until 10; I am not sure about the drinks past closing time. I know there's a drink 'fridge' (not the right word, but the glass front thingies like in convenience stores.), but not sure if it's locked after hours. I was more of a morning person, so I can just tell you that it's nice and quiet to stop up for coffee around 6:30.

I see you cant request it on the check in through the Disney website, I requested high floor and trail view. Would I be better off calling to ask for a room with a bunk bed? The original reservation on Travelocity was for a standard room (king bed).

It's funny, it was an option choice on Travelocity. I didn't change it to bunk bed, so it stayed as king bed.

We Booked our trip!!!! I'm bursting at the seams but my husband wants to wait to tell the kids since my daughter was extra suspicious last year!!! (We usually tell them we're going to Disney, but surprise them the day we're leaving!!) So I had to tell someone!!! I'm looking forward to seeing AKL in person! I look forward to planning with everyone!

This really excites me. I love food and this sounds amazing.

You might enjoy the dining tour they do in the afternoons. My friend and I did it last year...and there is no charge. You get samples of Zebra Domes and more.
