My kids are 12 and they love the resort. The pool is huge and they also liked the hot tub. They loved Boma and the Mara for quick meals. I'm sure your 13 year old will love the surprise. We had sticker shock too, but once we got here we are really pleased with the choice.

I've been checking out the menu at the Mara, and this is the question from my husband: Do they have regular pizza? I see that there is pizza delivery, but can he walk down there and get one? (he's pickier than the kid!)

I just went through the pic link on the Community Resorts board and am gaga! I really am excited after seeing all of the beautiful pictures inside and out. I want May to get here quickly but want time to slow way down when I'm there!

I couldn't agree more!!!! We have visited the resort twice and I am so excited to be staying there in March. It really is such a beautiful resort.

We will be there May 22-30th. We originally made reservations at Caribbean Beach for our honeymoon (while wishing we could stay at AKL), but we were able to make the switch once the spring discounts were released. We are counting down the days!

Congratulations! We are arriving the 22nd of May as well. We also waited and booked the Spring discount with AKL but originally thinking CSR. We can't wait! How magical to have your honeymoon at AKL. That's so awesome!

Today I saw someone at another table with the pepperoni flatbread and it looked just like pepperoni pizza. It looked delicious. My kids had the rotisserie chicken meal and it was really good and today they had the roast turkey sandwich and the turkey was amazing. I had the falafel pita and it was great too. We thought it was a great high quality choice for meals.

I got a letter in the mail today thanking me for our upcoming stay. It also told about the refurbishment going on. It was the first time I ever got a letter, so it seemed personable. I realize the letter was more about the resort refurbishment, but I still thought it was sweet to get a personal letter.

I guess I am just really excited for our upcoming stay. ;)

This really excites me. I love food and this sounds amazing.

I see on the menu listed on all ears website that there is a pepperoni pizza at the Mara for $8.79. Must be an individual one. Well, they call it flatbread! LOL!

Thank you! It is my fiance's first time to Disney, so I think that makes me even more excited to be spending our honeymoon there. Only 102 more days until the 22nd! :Pinkbounc

Well, I bit the bullet and booked AKL for two nights of our April trip. It really hurt to pay almost $1000 for two nights at a hotel, but DH has decided that DS is going to love it for his 13th birthday surprise, and he has promised me that he will plan to relax and spend a lot of time at the resort instead of running around the parks like a maniac as per usual.

I'm really looking forward to this special treat, and now I'm off to read all 142 pages of this thread! I'm sure I'll have questions...
Have you considered renting DVC points for your stay? It doesn't have to cost that much to stay for two nights. Just an idea.

Most of the nights in April for savanna view studios at Jambo aren't available as they are already booked.

No I never considered it. If I could ever manage to plan a trip far ahead of time enough to take advantage of something like that, I might, but planning this trip 75 days ahead of time is highly unusual for us, most of the time we plan with only a few weeks notice.

Here right now in Jambo. No sign of construction so far. And we booked pool view and checked in to an upgrade to savanna view! We are thrilled. What a great and unexpected bonus! We are loving the resort and can't wait till Boma tonight.
Curious if you did online check in or waited until you got to the resort? I am hopeful for a little pixie dust, but will be happy either way.

Thanks!

We are planning a VERY last minute trip for Spring Break, considering staying at AKL for a few nights in a standard room. Are there places to view the savannas available to the public or can they only be seen from the savanna view rooms? Specifically the giraffes they are my kids favorite!

I did the online check-in.... First time at this resort, but at others I haven't gotten any pixie dust. I am super excited to be staying here, so it is okay where ever we get our room. Hoping for some for you!!! :)

There are plenty of public spaces outside the Savannah view rooms to see the animals - definitely giraffes!
