Resort Thread Disney's ALL-STAR SPORTS Resort

I have booked ASSP and am very excited to be going back at the end of April.:goodvibes It will be myself, DH, DD Gabrielle, and DD Sophia. We were just there in September at POP.
I cant wait!!! Only 4 more months!!!:yay:

What are you dates? I will be at AS Sports from April 23-27,going on a much needed solo trip!

I loved LOVED LOVED Sports!!:thumbsup2

The castmembers were awesome! The bus service was superior!
The food court was amazing! The room was perfect! The value was excellent!

I have stayed at WL, Pop, Poly, BC, and POFQ. Here's how I would rank them:

1. POFQ - It's just so pretty.
2. Sports - For Disney, the value can't be beat.
3. WL - Lodge is pretty but too expensive!
4. BC - Pool is nice but too expensive!
5. Poly - Nothing about this place is worth the price! Not a fan.

There were teenage girl groups and Brazilian tour groups. They didn't bother us at all. We even found them to be a lot of fun to hang with! :thumbsup2

That's my two cents! I will definitely be back! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I could not agree more and I love it that most people dislike ASsports and the All star buses while I find them much better because it leaves it less crowded when I go. lol

Like you I do so love POFQ as well but unless I get a good discount it just isn't worth the extra cost for us. I love the Boardwalk as well but again costs get in the way.

Thanks for this post! I let my boys pick which AS they wanted to stay at and I just can't find many reviews of *** - This has made my day! :yay:

We (my fiance and myself) just got back from a quick trip to All Star Sports. Overall we had a great time; my fiance loved Sports (I knew he would)!

Pros:

Smaller size as compared to POP
Fantastic Cast Members!
Food Court was quieter

Cons:

POP food court is better - more selections in market area and bakery
I found POP's bus service to be far superior
I just "liked" POP better - loved the music playing from different decades

Also, for anyone still wondering; Sports is no longer using the refillable mugs with the chips. Anyone could fill up anything (and yes they did!) without any restrictions.

Considering the price we paid with a good discount, Sports was a steal. Excellent service from Magical Express and Bell Services, and we felt very welcomed upon entering. Two out of three of our requests were met, making us feel valued and special. I would recommend any of the values; just pick the theming that fits you best.

This is the first I've read that the mug trial was over. This is pretty big news. Well I just got back from a cruise so it's news to me. I was out of touch with the world for about 10 days. Did they remove the drink dispensers with the little video screens? Or did they just change them to dispense on demand?

i stayed at Sports when it first opened.
i loved it then and still love it now.

i booked today for my fall stay there.
what can i say, change is not easy for me.

it's like a second home to me.

there might have been times i have had an issue there but it was corrected as soon as i informed the front desk.
the CM's have been very helpful all the time from what i have seen and heard.

thanx for the heads up on the soda dispensers.
i used it last September and didn't care for it as it malfunctioned too many times for me.
i'm glad that trial run is over.

probably due to the time i go to Sports, last week of Sept thru first week of Oct, i have not had issues with busses.
the only time i can remember them sharing is during the early afternoon time.
even with that, not even a half full bus back to the hotel.

at All Stars, you can pool hop or eat at the other dining halls.
i found Movies having some different foods than at Sports.

Whatever you all decide on if it is Pop or All Stars to stay, just go and have fun. Many of us aren't in the room for more than a shower and a sleep.

We will be there in June. We will be going with my DS's new wife and stepson, as well as my DD. It is kind of cool, because the last time we stayed at All Star Sports, I believe my DS was 10 and now we will be there with his stepson. Can't wait!!

I did not see any screens; the only thing different is that there was a round bulb shaped object over the dispensers. It looked like it would have lit up at one time. I never saw the dispensers when they were operating with the chip, so can't really comment on that. Congrats on a nice long cruise!

Thank you for the link! The screens and the entire silver area above the dispensers were not there. The only thing remaining was that bulb I described, otherwise it looked like any other resort's food court area. Also, the refillable mugs for sale were the same ones at the other resorts; the current design with pink, blue or black handles and tops. I wish I took a picture :sad2:

AS Sports has become our favorite value resort! We have stayed at deluxe villas, deluxe resorts, moderates and values. I blame my father for turning me into the Disney Freak I am, lol. Unfortunately...he still remains a Disney freak....and DVC holder with not enough points to support my Disney habits. So....I've done my own thing with my 3 boys...(16, 9, and 6) for the last 8 years. The boys love the theme of each AS. I started with Movies....then left it up to the boys. I can't afford more than a moderate for the length of time we go. So....they understand that if they pick a deluxe....we will minus days. They want more days!!! (So do I!) So...I can stay at a value for 2 weeks compared to a deluxe for less than a week. What would you do? At this point...we shower and sleep....might spend an afternoon or two at the pool. That's it. We loved CBR pool area....had a great time with the kid area....but when asked....the boys like AS Sports....and want to return every time. They were a bit angry when the football field was under construction on our last trip home. They are so excited to see it now!

Subbing in since it looks like my May trip is on. :woohoo: I'll be staying at ASSp for the first time, just me and my 10yo daughter, for the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouting event.

Does anyone know how room assignment works for group events? Is it worth requesting a particular location or does that only apply when booking as an individual? I'd really like to be in the baseball section because she plays and I know she'd love it!

I read some places that Touchdown is preferred and some places say it isn't. Does anyone know? I want to make a room request, but have only booked the standard rate, so want to make sure I'm not requesting a preferred building.

i know positively.
after over 15 stays there, i can answer your question.

Surf's Up, both buildings are the preferred ones.
they have the best view of the larger pool.

Touchdown 7 faces the fb field and the backside is a view of scenery or other buildings.

Touchdown 10 faces the field and parts of the backside, faces the parking lot. both buildings have the Tshape.
both are near the main building.

parts of Surf's Up extends back and TD 7 in parts is closer to the main building.

i always stay in touchdown.

I just looked at the pics on page 13 and I am FINALLY excited about staying here!! I wanted CBR again but showed my son the pics online of Sports and yeah....that was that.

But those pics..oh gosh, I know my son is going to be in heaven!!

And I just miss you. May 5-12 here!

hey we'll be there at the same time May 6th (maybe arriving late the 5th) - 11th - just a quickie trip!

It's our first stay at Sports and I"m looking forward to it!

Question DD loves the look of the football section and wants to stay there - I like to aim for a quieter/ less crowded section yet one that is close to Music (in case we decide to hop back to that Food Court).

Comments/ Suggestions?

Looks like my family that will 10 of us will be staying here in September for Free Dining! I have just a few questions!

1. We only paid for standard rooms, how far out are we going to be?

2. How are the buses during what should be a slower time?

3. Any recent refurbs? New televisions or bedding like the other values?

4. Any other great information you would like to share? :cool1:
