Resort Thread Disney's ALL-STAR MOVIES Resort

We stayed in the Toy Story - Woody building, second floor looking out toward the back into the woods. I think that this bldg. is the quietest, closest to busses and far enough from the pool and cafe noise. The Dalmations Bldg. is much farther away from the busses than the Toy Story Building .I don't remember the room numbers, but you can look it up on the map.
Our rooms did not have curtains between the bedroom and sink area. We did have a preferred room.

Thank you. I managed to find one in the back to school stuff at Target for 9.99 is it plain navy but that is fine.

To answer some of the above questions and concerns. We stayed in the Toy Story section last Dec. we stayed on the ground floor(2 strollers thought it was best and we were SO right). We had a corner room right in front of the checkers, looking right at Buzz...

SUper comfortable, enough room to put our strollers right by the window without unfolding them. Ice machine was right around the corner. The walk from cinema hall was maybe a 3 min walk. With 2 kids making stops along the way that is. lol Now, when you come out of the doors of Cinema Hall the pool is right smack in front of you. To the left is the pathway to the other sections. You can see Herbie Love Bug Section at the end. My guess it's the same or a smidge further walk than Toy Story. We paid the extra for Toy Story more than distance. This year we are hoping to save the money and get herbie as it's SO not far and the kids love the movie.
Here are some pictures...hope they help! :)

The ONLY thing I have to say, is looking out over the main courtyard full of ToyStory things, the lights are left on ALL night. So through some cracks of the curtains it looks daylight at all times of night. Also, at 6am when kids are running around playing out there you can hear their screams. NOt a huge deal as it woke us up to get going. But if you aren't looking for something like this, I'd pick something on the outter sides Which we walked around those sides, they are still nice. You dont get the Toy Story characters smack dab in your face, but you get some nice trees and some grass. Its very relaxing. Not too sure about where the parking lots are though and how those rooms over looking that would be.

Oh here is another of the soda station we frequented A LOT with the refillable mugs. Hubby LOVES Cherry Coke..we can't get it up here in Canada. He was sick of it by our last day

I will try to get more pics up if you guys would like, Im sure i have more somewhere

Hello! We're taking our first trip to Disney in October, arriving 10/2 and checking out 10/8. DD will turn 5 on the trip so Dalmations or Toy Story would probably be best character-wise (she's never seen Fantasia or Herbie) but I'd be more concerned about the accommodations. We've reserved a preferred room at ASMo and I have a few questions about the resort.

Is the Dalmation building the way to go if we want the best odds of being close to the bus stop but away from noise of the pool, etc.? Is there anything else we should mention when putting in a building request - like a specific floor?

Anyone know if there are big student groups booked for ASMo the same time we'll be there? Crossing my fingers that we don't get all the teams and cheerleaders I've heard about. :sad2:

I'm sure we'll have at least a couple meals in the food court. Any recommendations for the best food court options for breakfast, lunch or dinner?

Thanks!

I'm sure I'm repeating info I've posted before (maybe here on this thread somewhere), but WTH ---
Glad to hear you will eat in the food court! It was much better than I had expected. Treat yourself to the quesadilla if you like Mexican.

And they had fresh, delicious baked goods for the morning.

We asked for and got a request for the 3rd floor & a "quiet" area -- we were in Fantasia facing the little woodsy area. DD4 loved walking through the big hat every day, even though she was unfamiliar with that movie. My guess is your DD will love it in whatever room you get at ASMo! Our 3rd floor room was quiet, though it could of been a pain if we didn't like stairs (we took stairs when in a hurry, elevator when we didn't care or wanted to go through the hat.)

FWIW, I don't think the resort is really all that big, even the non-preferred rooms are not extremely far from the bus stop / food court.
You'll have a great time!

If you were going solo, and booked a preferred room, what would be the best building/location to request?

TIA! :surfweb:

What are you looking for? I loved our quiet room. I enjoy sleeping at night and any little sound or light can awaken me.
DH said he would have preferred to face the pool and watch all the activity.

Maybe he was hoping for cheerleaders? :confused3
Just kidding. He does prefer a "busier" environment.

Or are you just thinking of what would be a more "secure" feeling area? I had almost forgotten that from my single travel days.

I will be going solo with my 4 yr old son the week of Oct 10th. I will be 5 mths prego too! I'd like to get a room in the Buzz Lightyear building for my little guy, but know that I will need to have a relatively quiet room for my not-so-good sleeping. Is there such a room in this building? I have a preferred room booked, so either standard or preferred is fine.
Thanks you great people!!:thanks:

I did it! I booked our grand gathering this past weekend! January 21-30 2010!! 3 preferred rooms at the All Star Movies! It'll be hubby and my 2nd time staying there, but the first for the boys, my parents and my inlaws! I'm so excited!! I can't wait to get Christmas over with, because then it's on to Disney!!!! :cool1:

AS Movies has not been refurbished. It is not shabby, but furniture is older. I was not uncomfortable at all.
You can buy milk at the gift shop and small cartons at the cafe.
I would see no problem having a small coffee pot.
We bought the refillable mugs for the "heavy drinkers" We thought that it was a bargain.

We're going November 2-9 and have ASMo standard room booked. Question, though .. I had read somewhere that only Fantasia and Toy Story were the preferred buildings, so (since my 4yo DD has seen 101 Dalmations and not the other two movies featured at the resort) I called the res line, who CONFIRMED that Dalmations was standard, and allowed me to put in a request for it.

Should I be calling back to make sure they don't charge me for a preferred room since that's what I had requested?

I requested a preferred room I think I will get Fantasia room because it is closer to the lobby! And I hope they have elevators! I really to buy some dvd's and cd's in the Donald's Double Feature in ASMO! if they have some Dvd's and Cd's in Donald's Double Feature at ASMO! Please tell me they sell those dvd's and CD's:confused:

Dh and I will be at ASMO on Sept 26th to Oct 3rd. I am a little worried about the resort not being refurbed in a while, but i think it will still be worth it. In Dec we went on our honeymoon and stayed at ASMu and the Poly, well ASMu was a much better expirence then the Poly and the reason we booked another value this time. The staff and Mousekeeping were great at Music and horrible at the Poly. I hope Movies is just as wonderful as Music was!:thumbsup2

And wished I was still at ASMO!

My report:

The only negative that I found was the furniture does need to be replaced (I worked as a move-in coordinator at an assisted living - so I can be picky). The table and chairs in the room were really nicked up and the side of the nightstand (laminate) fell off when I pulled the bedspread back. But when I mentioned these things to my hubby, he did not think the furniture was that bad - so maybe it was just me.

We were in Fantasia building second floor facing the parking lot. It was pretty quiet. The beds were firm and we were given extra pillows and towels. Our housekeeper was really good - she always did a window display for us and also placed the kid's stuffed animals in cute displays in the room. She also helped organize us - she was awesome!

The buses were good for us. The only times we shared buses were the Magical Express and coming back from Animal Kingdom. Had to stand once ( a couple of times people got up and gave me their seats since I had 2 young children).

We did walk over to Music twice - once to eat at their food court and once to shop. It was not a far walk and we thought about going swimming there but we never did.

We really enjoyed ASMO. There is nothing like walking past Mickey pool every morning to catch bus. It was awesome!

Hope everyone has as a good of time as we did!

thanks for the update dancingqueen! we were there in 05 and are heading back in 37 days. can't wait....off topic, we were in your neck of hte woods last summer to take the kids to sesame place. wish we could of stayed longer than three days!

We were thinking of booking 2 ASMO rooms with the free dining. Instead of our AKL bunk bed room only discount. My only issue would be how are the rooms holding up? We stayed there back in 2003 and they were fine. I'm sure my dd would love to see that place. I think more so then the AKL. But we are thinking 2 rooms would be better than one. We were booked at CBR but my step son now coming. So we had to make diffrent arrangements. I truly want to stay at the AKL but we will never use anything but the food court there. Are only sit down must do is CP breakfest one morning. How is the food court also. We may be eating a few times there.
