Resort Thread Disney's ALL-STAR MOVIES Resort

Staying at a Resort with the Cheerleaders depends on the Guest-some hate it and some it doesn't seem to bother at all.

And since we are still in Covid World we don't really know if the numbers of Cheerleaders coming to the Competitions this year will be at the usual level.

All I can say is to just look at it as a new "adventure" and maybe you will be one of those Guests it doesn't bother.

Below is what it "can" look like. This picture is College Cheerleaders practicing at All-Star Sports-you won't see anything this HUGE at Movies because Movies doesn't have anything like the Football Field at Sports.

You may wonder why Disney hosts these Competitions-the answer is simple:

M I C K E Y

M O N E Y!

When are the cheer teams scheduled to leave? Looking to possibly book a room for one night May 9-10

Staying at movies for the first time may 1-6. How bad is this cheer thing?
I fall into the category of it not being that bad. I stayed at POP three years in a row while the cheer teams were there and another year at ASMu. They tend to be there more on the weekend than through the week and are primarily out at the competition venue. They leave early in the morning and you don't see them much after that. Once they are finished competing most of them go home. The only real negative experience I had with them was not with the kids but with the chaperones.

This. I had a terrible experience at CSR with the cheer/dance World's in 2019, but it was the ADULTS, not the kids. Kids are kids. They're excited, and sometimes a little loud but.... Kids.
I had a lot of issues with rude/drunk adults at the resort, sometimes even the kids were like, "Mom! What are you doing? You're so rude!"

Yep...that was my experience. Rude, drunk and nasty behaviour. The only difference was the kids weren’t around.

Our experience was...They started screaming and shouting around 6AM, took over all common areas: grassy, pools and Food Court. Every time we walked through the "Resort", we were gagging from smoke because they're too young to use the actual smoking areas so they went behind buildings and bushes. They run (wild) in large groups and we saw one teen actually jump over a baby stroller rather than be left behind the group! In the Food Court, the line cutting goes on endlessly because they all know each other... and it sounds like a school lunchroom without supervision. Speaking of LOUD, riding the busses with those groups can be a real treat. (I suggest you bring ear plugs if you don't want to experience hearing loss!)

I’ve read those types of reports a few times. So I don’t doubt all that has/can happen. Personally, I’ve had that type of experience with the South American tour groups but not with the cheer teams, marching bands and Pop Warner kids. I will say that the food court does get extra crazy when those large groups are around. That for sure has been a nuisance. We are usually in a hurry to grab food and get on our way.

It is a problem with big groups in general. The worst experience we ever had was, oddly enough with the now defunct Christian music event that took place after park hours, called "The Night Of Joy."
We had to call security at AKL on a guy smoking and shouting on his balcony at 1 AM about the "MF'ing love of Jesus F'ing Christ." 🙄

Never had an issue with them. But... I'm not the "Get off my lawn!" type.

They sometimes were loud in the morning - didn't bother me. I'm in a "motel" type accommodations so even though I'm paying far more than a Motel6 I don't expect quiet in the morning.

Sometimes they filled up the common areas - didn't bother me. I got a kick out of watching them practice. And my vacation style doesn't include any lounging in common areas. Especially at Movies.

The food court got crazy when they were there. I just adjusted my schedule and ate later.

We can look at the negative of anything. We see what we want to see. If the kids upset us we see each and every annoying thing they do and make it an issue.
Or we can just enjoy watching these kids have the time of their lives and go on with our vacation.

Are the cheer events even happening in 2021?

Staying here in June for the first time in 16 years!! I stayed in a new Pop room in 2018 and loved it, so I know I will love my room here. I chose here instead of Pop because I don't want to rely on the Skyliner for HS RD. We'll see how it goes. :D

Has anyone gotten an upgrade? I'm seeing on Facebook people saying they were moved to coronado, AOA and others because of big cheering competition coming up

We have an April reservation for the 19th (Monday) thru the 23rd (Friday) and I'm wondering about the people who are being offered upgrades. Anyone know if you can call and inquire about an upgrade, or is it totally up to the luck of whether Disney calls you or not? When I booked ASMo, I had no idea any cheer comps would be happening 😕 Not really looking forward to sharing the resort with a large group of teens...
