Disney's abandoned works.

River Country also had a decline in visitors as the years passed. Once Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard beach were opened, it wasn't really popular anymore. No one wanted the old water park, they wanted the newer parks.
I think it was mainly Blizzard Beach that caused this, as Typhoon Lagoon has been there longer.
Yep, sadly you are right. River Country wasn't nearly as popular after BB and TL opened. I'm thinking because generations were changing and the new people didn't appreciate the idea as much as generations before. They wanted lots of colors, big icons and blue water.

Thing is, I'd rather go to TL and RC.
Not BB. BB holds no interest for me.
RC was such a simple, but great concept for a theme park. Now it's just in ruins, for everyone to look at. Some people will remember past memories, some will be sad they never experienced it, and for some people it will be the first time they are ever aware that RC existed.

When I first found out about RC I thought the water was just plain, untreated lake water. And I was glad that they closed the place down, because lake water in Florida has those amoebas, and as said before those can kill people, even though it's rare.

But once I found out it wasn't just lake water, I wanted to go so bad. Because it looked REALLY fun. All those slides and the whole theme to it = cool.

I've wanted to go since I read about it in the Unofficial Guide the WDW 2000 by Bob Sehlinger.
I wanted to go really badly. When my parentes finally decided to go to WDW, RC was closed (it was officially closed only months before we were scheduled to go to WDW).
And then when I saw the ruins in 06, on a boat ride to MK or the Poly, I got really sad, and wished it was still open.

ok i have a theory on why disney built other hotels and did not even think about pop century legendary. America is and has fallen on hard times. People are gettting less and less likely to spend money in places like disney. So the people that have plently of money are able to go to disney. Now since they have plently of money they are staying in the better hotels. Thats basicaly shown by the fact the all star is only half boooked during most seasons except summer. O well its just a theory that made sense to me.

The deluxe resorts are more profitable to them, that's why I think they're focusing on AKV and CR instead of POP.

That made all the memories that ive had at river country come back. I also remebered that my favorite water ride ive ever been on was there =(

I'm reading a book right now called Realityland by David Koening... it has tons of information and stories about Disney's abandoned projects, like the hotels around Bay Lake.

I also found a really good website about all of Disney's unfinished, abandoned, or closed projects... I'll try to find it.

I remember when river country was open it was pretty cool. Last summer when I went to WDW, I got pictures of river country when I went to fort wilderness.
