Tell me I'm not the only one who just wants to cry when they see photos like this...

*sob* It looks like some old, delapidated apartment building. :(

I guess it really gets to me, because the rest of Disney is so surreal. It's all colors, life and magic. And these look so dead, abuse and abandoned.

I never got to go to River Country even though we were there when it was opened :(

RIVER COUNTRY :[
That place was better than Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach put together.
It's so sad to see it all overgrown like that.

Just gonna post a link to a thread that my uncle had up, with pictures of POP Legendary Years.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1391731

Those pictures are from.. last March I believe.

He did note that it looked like they were doing laundry and stuff out of the back of it.

River Country though, really should be torn down. I wish it would be. It hurts me to see it, imagine all the fun people had, and now all that's left of it is an ugly moulding ruin. But there's rumors that there's water snakes in the water (the water comes from the lake, it's all dirty from the boats), and that on Discovery Island there's alligators. No one has been to Discovery Island in years, it's completely inhabited by various animals, apparently it's dangerous to go over there.

Actually I get freaked out.
It just looks all haunted and creepy.

I don't remember RC much, but it was a waterpark right?
And what's Discovery Island?

Is there are reason as to why POP Legendary Years wasn't finished?

EDIT: Got this off Wikipedia.

The second phase of construction for the resort is the Legendary Years - 1900-1940. This part of the resort resides across the Hourglass Lake, and is connected by the Generation Gap Bridge. Its construction was halted after 9/11 due to the reduction in tourism. As of Summer 2006, the "Legendary Hall" building and a few of the units have been constructed but are not finished. The buildings can be seen on the right hand side of the entrance to Pop Century.

Initially the completed resort was to have an additional 2,880 rooms on the "Legendary" side, configured identically to the "Classic" side. However, as of April 10, 2006, the MousePlanet website has confirmed that these rooms will instead be configured as family suites, identical to those now available at Disney's All-Star Music Resort, with a separate master bedroom, two bathrooms and a kitchenette. In Summer 2007, some "hammering" noises could be heard and various Disney security vehicles could be spotted on the Legendary Years Lot, although there is no physical evidence that continuing construction is going on.

A few of the pop icons to represent these decades have already been revealed by the shape of the swimming pools in the design plans. The pool in the 1940s section is to be shaped like a highway sign, suggesting a "Route 66" motif. The pool in the 1930s will resemble a soda bottle, and the 1910s pool forms the outline of a Monopoly game board.

All I can really remember from River Country is swimming in lake water......ick!!!

Never really a huge fan of Pop either.......

The unused space makes me feel very depressed though. They have to do something with these spaces, there's alot of potential for new things if Disney would just get on it.

As I've said before I wish River Country were torn down. I mean, they announced in 2005 that it will never be reopened or used to anything. And besides, it's just dangerous for those people who get curious and try to get out there by themselves.

Yeah, besides that, what you can see from the shuttle boats to get to MK or FW, it's a total eyesore.

While looking through some old threads about River Country, I found a post linking to a article on i-mockery.com.
It was about an island, I guess in the Bahamas, named Treasure Island (just like Discovery Island used to be called). There's very little information on it, but I guess it was owned by some cruise line and developed by Disney.
It's absolutely in RUINS now. Trees growing over everything, shattered toilets... It was too much upkeep, once again for Disney to be bothered with it. But they just let everything overgrow.

I really hope, that in the future, that if they give up on one of their parks or minor attractions that they can at least clean it up. Get rid of it.
If you want to see that article and anything else about it, search Bakers Bay Disney in Google. I'm not direct linking because some of the stuff on imockery is kind of .. rude.

It is so weird seeing that. It's eerie.

And Hil--I never knew Canadian Guy was your uncle. :)

Honestly.. I must be weird or something because I love seeing pictures like that.
It just shows even perfect places aren't perfect.

Also It's good they close that water thing down. I'm sure so many animals would be swimming with kids. So not safe.

Also wondering why they just don't take things down it's because it cost money to do that. So there better off just letting it stand.

Obviously, it cost a lot of money to demolish it. It would just be nice for the eyesore to be gone.

It was mostly the cost of maintaining it up to regulation. Florida lake water is not healthy to be swimming in, it has amoeba in it, and when it's 90 degrees for 3 days straight it begins to become problem. You swallow the water, the ameoba could kill you.

The abandoned Legendary side is so sad to look at :sad1:
When I was at POP in August, we walked over to the Generation Gap bridge and it was just so sad to see it all lonely and unfinished. I wish they would continue, but someone on the other threads mentioned the buildings are probably molding and gross.. after what, 6-7 years I imagine they'd not be in the best shape. But it would be really cool to have them finished some day. POP is so much fun!

There are like animals living in the buildings... and they are kind of dirty and stuff.
They could finish them if they really wanted to though.
