Just got back from Disneys A Christmas Carol in 3D and have to say I was very impressed. It was incredibly detailed and immersive. Stuck true to the original text and entertained with action packed diversions. Jim Carrey gave a tremendous performance or should I say performances (as he played more than one character) and showed us once again that he isnt JUST a comedian he is also a rather decent actor. There were some laugh out loud moments of comedy intertwined with some incredibly surreal moments. The Shrinking Scrooge was one of my favourite scenes where he (Scrooge) trys to escape from a superbly imagined and shadowy "Ghost of Christmas yet to come". The supporting cast of Colin Firth, Bob Hoskins and most notably Gary Oldman as "Bob Cratchit" were also on top form bringing light and life to Characters that have been performed so many times before them. Bob Cratchit's scene after the death of tiny tim was the most powerful version I have seen!.

I would however say that there are alot of moments when very young children may have a problem with the language of Victorian England and the films rather slow "talky" moments. There are also many moments of tension and fright. BUT that being said I am of the belief that kids need to get spooked now and again. Most of my fondest memories of films are those that gave me the chills! Where as now in adulthood those moments are few and far between.

Overall it was a true slice of Charles Dickens, Christmas and Disney magic.

Its a good old fashioned intelligent FAMILY film.10/10 Run not walk to your nearest cinema (preferably with a 3D Screen!). :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I get a free movie at my local multi-plex on my birthday.
I think I will see Christmas Carol instead of Princess and the Frog.
Thanks for the great review.

It was very funny in some parts too!! The effects were great, The IMAX 3D was incredible!!! Def a Must See! The whole audience gave the movie a standing ovation!! Once again Disney gets it!!!

And because I'm impatient, I sneak-previewed it for the NE Disers. I concur heartily...must be seen in 3-D.

NOT for very young children. Very intense ghosts!

Well done review in OP

Thanks for the review! I can't wait to see this. I love, love, LOVE A Christmas Carol!

I do want to reiterate (especially after reading some of the reviews on FB) that the movie is NOT for young children! If you are going, expecting it to be a wonderful, feel-good Disney flick, think again. Dickens' story, as we all know, is very dark and very spooky. This movie really accentuates the idea that the ghosts are trying to FRIGHTEN Ebenezer Scrooge into changing his ways. Please don't think they will be downplaying this, just because it's Disney...this has VERY INTENSE effects that are meant to frighten.

Please leave children who might be frightened at home, at least until you have had an opportunity to see the movie beforehand.

We are going to see it tomorrow with my 5 year old. I am pretty sure he will be ok. I guess tomorrow will tell.

Just got back- the IMAX was AMAZING!!!

It was quite intense and scary. There were a fair number of young kids in the theater. I heard some crying at points, but not too, too bad.

I enjoyed having toured the train exhibit before seeing this- you can really appreciate some of the special effects, costuming, etc. even more.

DH is a HUGE Christmas Carol fan- every version, ever made- and he gave this a big thumbs up. :thumbsup2
And even though the Muppet Christmas Carol has always been MY favorite version- I did very much enjoy this darker (more true to Dickens' original intent) version.

There was applause all around at the end. :cool1:
